The Characteristics of Formative Assessments Practiced in Middle School Science Teaching from a Constructivist Perspective (중학교 과학수업에서 형성평가의 실제 - 구성주의적 관점에서의 형성평가를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of formative assessments practiced in middle school science teaching from a constructivist perspective. In order to examine the practices of formative assessments in science teaching, 7 science classes were observed and video-taped for each of 2 instructions. We also interviewed the teachers and 3 students per each class with semi-structured questions. The findings indicated that 3 types of formative assessments were generally used in science teaching; planned, interactive, and transitional from planned to interactive. Teachers tended to assess students' personal, social, and scientific developments through formative assessments. The assessment of scientific development was the most frequent pattern and was classified into the assessments of content, process, and context. However, formative assessments concerning content covered in class were dominant. The processes of formative assessments consisted of three interdependent stages; getting informations from students, judging their responses, and giving feedbacks to them. The types of questions and feedbacks used were also influenced by the extent of interactions between the teachers and the students.

Cognitive and Affective Domains Outcome of Students in the Department of Dental Hygiene according to Teaching and Learning Methods by Learning Style (학습유형별 교수학습방법에 따른 치위생과 재학생의 인지적·정의적 성과)

  • Aim of this study was to confirm the effect of teaching and learning methods on outcomes of learner according to learning style. For this, 22 of dental hygiene students(case group) was treated teaching & learning methods according to learning style while 24 of students(control group) was non treated. Pre-survey were performed before performance of program. Formative Evaluation(FE) was conducted in 2, 3 and 4 week of program respectively and summative evaluation(SE), survey of subject interest(SI) and learning motivation(LM) were conducted in 5 week. The result of study, FE, SI and LM after treatment were increased than before treatment in case group(p<0.05). SI and LM of case group were higher than control group(p<0.05). FE after treatment was increased than before treatment in he assimilator(p<0.05). SI and LM of case groups were higher than control group in assimilator and diverger(p<0.05). The result of correlation analysis, SI was related with SE, FE, LM(p<0.01, p<0.05). Thus, it is necessary to development, application and study of teaching & learning consider to learning style.

Examining Mathematics Teachers' Intentions regarding Formative Assessment (수학 수업 지도안에 나타난 교사가 설계하는 형성평가 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal what mathematics teachers focus on and how they assess students' thinking during lessons enacted. For this purpose, we googled and searched internet sites to collect formative assessment materials for the year 2014 to 2019. The formative assessment tasks data were analyzed according to the levels cognitive demand levels and tasks suggested in textbooks in terms of degrees to which how they are related. The data analysis suggested as follows: a) most of the formative assessment tasks were at the low-level, in particular, PNC level tasks that require applying particular procedures without connections to concepts and meaning underlying the procedures, b) the assessment tasks appeared to be very similar to the tasks suggested in the secondary mathematics textbooks, and c) it seemed that 3 types of formative assessment, observation notes, self-assessment, and peer-assessment were dominantly utilized during mathematics lessons and these different types of formative assessment were employed apparently to find out whether students participated actively in class and in group activity, not how they go through understanding or thinking processes.

The Effects of the Types of Web-based Corrective Feedback on the Learning Achievement (웹 기반 교정적 피드백 유형이 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we have designed and established a formative evaluation system which provides the web-based corrective feedback in the current situation that the importance of feedback as well as the formative evaluation is getting highlighted in the course of learning and instruction. This system is composed of three types of corrective feedback. The first one is the informations providing feedback by stage. It provides the explanations or the correct answers-related informations for the wrong answered questions by stage and directly. The second one is the error corrective feedback, which provides the informations about the reasons of the errors on each wrong answered question so that the learner can correct his errors. Lastly, the corrective feedback by the accumulated marks shows the learner's total marks and their wrong answered questions to enable the learner to learn for themselves. We analyzed how these three corrective feedback effects on the learning achievement after applying them to learners, and testified the type of the most effective corrective feedback in enhancing the degree of learning achievement.

Research on the Current Science Teaching Evaluation System and Directions for Improving Teaching Evaluation (과학과 수업평가 실태 및 개선 방안 연구)

  • This study investigated the current science teaching evaluation system implemented in schools and directions for improving teaching evaluation using literature review, survey, and teacher interview. The first part of this paper analyzed the types, roles, and major issues of the current science teaching evaluation. In-service teachers argued that the current teaching evaluation system was discredited because of the bureaucratic procedures of teacher performance review, showcase classrooms, teachers' views on classroom as their own personal space, low ratio of teaching component in the current teacher evaluation, untrained evaluators, and the absence of professional teaching standards. The second part of the paper investigated the need for a formative teaching assessment, an ideal type of teaching assessment, and the role of participants in the teaching evaluation processes. The way forward, therefore, is to start not at the level of the administrative superstructure but at the level of teachers who will assume responsibility for developing standards of practice as the basis for evaluating their own work and improving their own professional learning to provide quality assurance.

The effects of types of presentation on the learning performance, satisfaction & expectation in cyber lecture (사이버 강좌의 정보제시유형이 학습 수행과 만족도, 학습기대감에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 사이버 강좌에서 사용되는 세가지 정보제시 유형에 따라 학습자의 학습 수행, 콘텐츠 만족도, 그리고 학습성취 기대감에 어떤 차이가 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이에 공기펌프 작동원리, 브레이크 작동원리, 번개형성과정의 세가지 과제를 나레이션+텍스트(na+text), 나레이션+삽화(na+illust), 나레이션+애니메이션(na+ani)의 세가지 정보제시 유형의 콘텐츠를 제작하였다. 먼저 학습수행에 있어서는 브레이크 과제에서 정보제시 유형별 유의한 차이가 나타났으며 세가지 정보제시 유형 모두에서 na+illust, na+ani, na+text 조건 순으로 성취가 높았다. 번개형성과정에서도 정보제시 유형별 유의한 차이가 있었고, na+text, na+ani, na+illust 의 순으로 학습성취가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 콘텐츠 만족도에 있어서는 공기펌프와 브레이크 과제 모두에서 제시유형별로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, na+ani, na+illust, na+text 순으로 만족하는 것으로 나타났다. 학습성취에 대한 기대감도 공기펌프와 브레이크 과제 모두에서 유의한 차이가 있으며, 그 순서는 만족도와 동일하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 나레이션이 제공되는 3 가지 정보제시 유형의 콘텐츠를 학습함에 있어 학습과제와 학습과제 제시 유형에 따른 학습 수행의 차이를 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 학습수행 결과는 피험자의 콘텐츠 만족도와 학습 성취 기대감과는 다른 패턴을 보임으로써 정보제시 유형에 대한 평가와 실제 학습수행과는 차이가 있음을 시사한다.

Error analysis on factorization and the effect of online individualization classes (인수분해에 대한 오류 분석과 온라인 개별화 수업의 효과)

  • In this paper, we analyzed the misconceptions and errors incurred during factorization learning. We also examined whether online individualization classes had a positive effect on students' mathematical achievement. The experiment was conducted for 4 weeks (16 times in total) on middle school juniors in rural areas of Gyeonggi Province, where the influence of private extra education was small. In the class, the 'Google Classroom' was used as a LMS, the video lecture was uploaded to YouTube, and the teacher interacted with the students through "Zoom" and "Facetalk". In the online class situation, students' assignments and test answers were checked in real time through 'Google Classroom', and immediate feedback was provided to the experimental class group's students. However, for the control group students, feedback was provided only to those who desired. A total of 7 achievement evaluations were conducted in the order of pre-test, formative evaluation (5 times), and post-test to confirm the change in students' ability improvement and achievement. Through the formative evaluation analysis, it was possible to grasp the types of errors and misconceptions that occured during the factorization process. Students' errors were divided into four types: theorem or definition distortion error, functional errors such as calculation, operation, and manipulation, errors that do not verify the solution, and no response. As a result of ANCOVA, the two groups did not show any difference from the 1st to 4th formative assessment. However, the 5th formative assessment and post-test showed statistically significant differences, confirming that online individualization classes contributed to improvemed achievement.

The Role of Providing Evaluative Criteria of Sensory Attributes on Consumer Preference-Variance and Resistance to Market Information (제품선호도 분산과 시장정보의 저항에 대한 감각속성 평가기준 제공의 역할)

  • 본 연구는 소비자의 제품 평가에 중요한 영향을 미치는 감각속성에 대하여 이를 평가할 수 있는 평가기준이 주어졌을 경우와 주어지지 않았을 경우 소비자의 선호도가 얼마나 일관적으로 형성되는지를 살펴보고, 이를 통해 형성된 선호도가 새로 유입되는 불일치 시장정보에 대해 어떠한 저항을 보이는지를 세 가지 유형의 시장정보를 통해 살펴보았다. 연구결과 감각속성을 평가할 수 있는 평가기준 정보가 주어진 경우 소비자들의 감각속성에 대한 지각이 제시된 평가기준을 활용하여 유사하게 이루어지고, 이에 따라 대상에 대한 선호도의 분산이 감각속성에 대한 평가기준을 제시하지 않았을 때보다 작음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 감각속성에 대한 평가기준이 제시되는 집단이 평가기준이 제시되지 않은 집단보다 평가기준을 활용함으로써 판단에 대한 확신을 가지게 되어 이후에 제시되는 불일치 시장정보에 대해 보다 저항하는 것으로 나타났다.

A System providing Individualized Feedback in Formative Evaluation (형성평가시 개별피드백을 제공하는 시스템)

  • Formative evaluation is an evaluation activity performed in the process of teaching and learning. The general purpose of formative evaluation is to provide the feedback and correct identified problems in the process of teaching and learning. In this paper, we propose a system which provides each student with individualized feedback in formative evaluation. The evaluation questionnaire in the system are produced on the basis of the section criteria such as knowledge, comprehension, and application. The evaluation result is categorized and evaluated according to the given criteria. Then different feedback is provided for each student advising where he or she should make up for weak areas. Moreover our system offers instructors the itemized correct answer ratio data as well as sets of individualized feedback delivered to students. It gives an additional benefit to ensure the improvement of teaching methods.

A Critical Study on the Three Models of Practical Theology in the Second Half of the 20th Century (20세기 후반 실천신학의 세 가지 유형에 대한 비판적 연구)

  • This essay is a critical study of the three models of practical theology that emerged in the second half of the 20th century: the critical correlational model (Sherrill, Browning), the hermeneutical model (Groome, Gerkin), and the faith community formation model (Westerhoff, Campbell). This essay first explores the central ideas of practical theologians who adhere to each of the three models and focuses on Christian education, pastoral counseling, and homiletics. This essay then critically evaluates the three models in accordance to the following four themes: how practical theology has 1) responded to the challenges of postmodernity, 2) engaged in dialogue with different types of theology, 3) participated in interdisciplinary dialogue, and 4) understood Christian practice. In conclusion, this essay suggests that the essential tasks of contemporary Christian education as practical theology include: 1) providing an active response to many challenges of postmodern, postsecular, postdigital, and posthuman era, 2) engaging in interactive dialogue with diverse forms of theology, and 3) facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue based on transversal rationality, and 4) establishing of the concept of Christian practice at the individual, ecclesial, social, public, ecological, and digital levels.
