  • In this study, a correlation between the roughness of nanoscale lapping surface and its laser scattering pattern has been identified experimentally. The characteristics of laser scattering on a reflected surface are investigated, and a laser scattering mechanism is newly designed by adopting the dark-field method. Laser scattering patterns resulting from nanoscale lapping shape are in the shape of crossed irregular lattice. In addition, optimum laser scattering images are obtained by the design of experiment, and the roughness of nanoscale lapping surface is estimated using regression analysis certain useful features of the laser scattering patterns. The results of fifty experiments on three types of nanoscale lapping surfaces show that the roughness of nanoscale lapping surfaces can be accurately estimated by the proposed mathematical modeling method.

  • Digital signage provides flight and airport information to the airport visitors and passengers. However, the digital signage has efficiency problem by displaying one type of advertisement to every customers regardless of their personality. We may solvel the inefficiency problem by using a smart digital signage which can recognize the characteristics of the customer We presents a smart digital signage with sex recognition function. The smart digital signage can recognize the sex of the customer to display the custom-made advertisement in realtime so that we can increase the satisfaction level of the airport passengers and visitors.

  • Finite Element Method is a strong tool to analyse static and dynamic problem of a structure. FEM is a good method for static problem, but for dynamic problem there are some differences between real phenomena and analyzed phenomena. Therefore some modifications are needed to identify two results. In this paper authors propose a genetic algorithm method 1) to adjust dimensions of plate for identifying natural frequencies, 2) to fit amplitude of FEM Frequency Response Function(FRF) onto it of real FRF. Analysis by raw FEM data gave questions if the results were for the same object. By only adjusting Young's modulus much better accordances were obtained, but limitation existed still. Very good agreements were achieved by shape modification and damping coefficient identification.

  • When the crossing frequency of a train meets the natural frequency of a railway bridge, the bridge is bound to become resonant. There are few available time response samples involving a train that passes a bridge at high speed. Very effective modal-parameter extraction techniques for such special high-speed railway bridge conditions are introduced in this paper. Utilizing the cross-correlations of the free-vibration responses after the train passes, mode shapes and the temporal modal parameters (e.g., natural frequency and damping ratio) are extracted using the TDD and SI techniques, respectively. This approach has been applied to a two-span steel composite bridge in the Kyung-Bu high-speed railway system. The estimation results were compared with those obtained using the existing methods. The results fully coincide with those that were extracted using the existing aforementioned technique.

  • The relative contribution of between hillslope-flow and stream-flow by heterogeneity of drainage path are quantitatively assessed in the present study with GIUH model based on grid of GIS. Application watersheds are selected Pyeongchang, Bocheong and Wi river basin of IHP in Korea. The mean and variance of hillslope and stream length are estimated and analyzed in each watershed. And coupling with observation storm events, estimate hillslope and stream characteristic velocity which dynamic parameters of GIUH model. The mean and variance of distribution of travel time (i.e. IUH) calculate using estimated pass lengths and characteristic velocities. And the relative contributions are assessed by heterogeneity of drainage path. As a result, the effect of the variance that determine shape of IUH dominate with hillslope's effect in the small watershed area (within 500 $km^2$). Thus, GIUH in the small watershed area must consider hillslope-flow.

  • This paper presents a technique for localization of a mobile robot using a single ultrasonic sensor. The mobile robot is designed for operating in a well-structured environment that can be represented by planes, edges, corners and cylinders in the view of structural features. In the case of ultrasonic sensors, these features have the range information in the form of the arc of a circle that is generally named as RCD (Region of Constant Depth). Localization is the continual provision of a knowledge of position which is deduced from it's a priori position estimation. The environment of a robot is modeled into a two dimensional grid map. we defines a physically-based sonar sensor model and employs an extended Kalman filter to estimate position of the robot. The performance and simplicity of the approach is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments using a mobile robot.

  • Array Gain (AG) is a metric to measure the performance of an array of acoustic sensors. AG is affected by the configuration of array, frequency and array element spacing, and the directivity of the ambient noise. In this paper, an algorithm to calculate AG based on the spatial coherence is used, and the results are verified through sea-going experiment. The method using the spatial coherence can be used to consider the arbitrary shape of an array and directionality of ambient noise. In the sea-going experiment, the towed source was used to transmit the Continuous Wave (CW), and was received at the horizontal line array on the seabed. The ambient noise was measured between the source transmission. The experimental AG was calculated from the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) of single sensor and an array of sensors. Finally, the predicted AG is shown to agree with the experimental value of AG.

  • A structural weight estimation methodology for the multicopter design process is presented. In general, a multicopter is composed of an airframe, motors, propellers, battery and so on. Among these, the weight of motors, propellers and battery can be obtained from the weight trends with respect to design parameters. However, the structural weight is hard to be estimated due to the various configurations and design concepts of multicopters. Moreover, the airframe weights of most commercial multicopter products are not provided. Thus, an accurate airframe weight model is required for the reliable mutlcopter design process. Firstly, the standard configuration of multicopters is defined. Then, we proposed the structural weight estimation method using the number and diameter of propellers determined from the initial step of sizing process. Finally, we validated our suggested method using the commerical products.

  • Many studies have been carried out on carbon fiber-reinforced plastic sheet(hereafter CFRP sheet)-confined concrete specimens for improve structural performance of concrete structures. To complement the existing studies, a parametric study is conducted to examine the effect of various design parameters such as layers of CFRP sheet, size and aspect ratio of specimens, and overlap length. The behavior of CFRP-confined concrete is compared using stress-strain curves of each specimen. And the strengthening effect of CFRP sheet is examined by maximum compressive strength. As the layers of CFRP sheet increases, structural performance of CFRP-confined concrete is significant increased. If the overlap length is more than 5% of circumstance, strengthening effect is not affected. In addition, a test database assembled from test results and existing studies is presented. Using these test database, accuracy and reliability of the existing strength models for CFRP-confined concrete are verified.

  • Software stability is the possibility of operating without any malfunction in the operating environment over time. In a finite failure NHPP for software failure analysis, the failure occurrence rate may be constant, monotonically increasing, or monotonically decreasing. In this study, based on the NHPP model and based on the software failure time data, we compared and analyzed the attributes of the software development cost model using the exponential distribution Rayleigh distribution and inverse exponential distribution considering the shape parameter of the Weibull distribution as the life distribution. The results of this study show that the Rayleigh model is the fastest release time and has the economic cost compared to the inverse-exponential model and the Goel-Okumoto model. Using the results of this study, it can be expected that software developers and operators will be able to predict the optimal release time and economic development cost.
