  • Uzbekistan, one of the top five cotton-producing countries in the world, primarily focuses its textile and fashion industry on raw cotton exports and the sewing industry. For Uzbekistan to achieve high added value, it is essential for the textile and fashion industry, which is currently at the CMT(cut, make, and trim) stage, to upgrade to OEM (original equipment manufacturing), ODM (original design manufacturing), and OBM (original brand manufacturing). South Korea recognizes Uzbekistan as a potential manufacturing base and trading partner and has invested Official Development Assistance (ODA) funds for the development of Uzbekistan's textiles and apparel sector. This study aims to evaluate Uzbekistan's fashion higher education in the context of global competitiveness and measure the need and prospects for education ODA from the Korean government in this field. Comprehensive investigations, including surveys of academics, industry experts, and government officials, in-depth interviews, and focus group interviews, were conducted to understand Uzbekistan's current fashion education environment. According to the research results, despite the textile and fashion sectors playing a pivotal role in the Uzbek economy, there is room for improvement in the curricula and teaching and learning methods of the fashion higher education programs. This study holds significance as foundational data for establishing education ODA strategies.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the coping behavior of the elderly in the warning phase of disaster and to explore factors influencing the coping behavior of the elderly. Data were collected from 130 senior citizens aged over 60 who are residing in Pyungchang and Injae of Kangwon province which had damaged by flood disaster in 2006. Perry & Lindell (1997)'s index, a series of six categories that represent coping behaviors which progressively approximate the action of evacuating in the warning phase of disasters was used. Results showed that respondents have high coping skills. Although Activities of Daily Living (ADL) has positive influence on the coping behavior, length of residence has negative effect on the coping behavior of the elderly. This finding proves the elderly are not uncompliant or uncooperative population in the warning phase of disaster. This result also emphasizes the importance of rapid and accurate giving of public warning system of disaster and necessity of prior notification of useful information about natural disaster and effective evacuation plan for the elderly.

  • The study aimed to evaluate an activity-oriented extracurricular science program as informal science education through the assessment of opinions of student participants and lead-students and lead-teachers who organized the program. An 'Exciting Science Fair' was designed by science teachers and students and provided for 857 students for two days in early 1998. Students chose a course of science activities designed by different levels of student knowledge and interests. During their own science activity courses, the participating students were grouped as pair of two students and guided and facilitated by lead-students. A survey instrument was developed by researchers and asked respondents' opinions of 121 participating students, 72 lead-students, and 19 lead-teachers to the significance of program goals, degree of goal achievement, and program planning and management system before and after the program. It was found that most student participants, lead-students and lead-teachers satisfied with the efficiency of the program. However, it was recommended that the program should place more emphases on engaging student participants in science activities, strengthening scientific inquiry through activities, and increasing science content related to student daily life. It was also suggested that advertizement of the program be publicized in advance through media, an effect teaching-learning strategy for lead-students be developed, and collaboration among lead-students and lead-teachers be improved.

  • Entrepreneurship education has been emphasized worldwide and the number of universities that open related subjects have been increasing. K University, located in Gyeonggi-do, was selected as one of the leading universities in entrepreneurship in 2014, and has continued to grow quantitatively by providing support and education related to entrepreneurship on and off campus. In addition, major issues in entrepreneurship education were derived by conducting written or face-to-face interviews and advisory meetings with instructors, field experts, and education demanders for environmental analysis. Based on this, three major tracks(venture start-up, entrepreneurship convergence, and social venture activation) were derived, and major competency and learning goals for each track were presented. On the other hand, in order for this study to be more effectively accepted, it is necessary to present the objectives of each track, the capabilities pursued, and the courses that help students' progress. Therefore, in the future research, it is necessary to design and present the goals for each track, the curriculum road map, and the detailed curriculum of the convergence major, and at the same time, research to match the appropriate teaching method for each newly opened subject will be required to increase educational effectiveness.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of partial-cyber and full-cyber lectures and explore directions for improvement. This study compared the mean scores of course evaluation for traditional face-to-face lectures, partial-cyber lectures of blended instruction, and full-cyber lectures. Also, this study interviewed instructors of full-cyber lectures to investigate the ways to enhance the lecture quality. The findings suggest that the course evaluation scores for full-cyber university were consistently lower than those for other types of lectures for four semesters between the years of 2011 and 2012. Results also showed that mean scores of partial-cyber lectures were the same as those of face-to-face lectures. After all, class satisfaction in full-cyber courses that learning occurs in cyber space was the lowest. Instructors who taught full-cyber lectures proposed that enrollment should not be within 60 students and professional assistance should be provided for lectures exceeding 60 students. Finally, they suggested content updates through a collaborative system with professionals, instructors' efforts to enhance interaction in both online and offline contexts, and learning quantity rationalization.

  • In a situation where OA papers are increasing, POI, which indexes how open the research activities of individual researchers are, is drawing attention. This study investigated the existence of OA papers and the OA method published in international academic journals by domestic LIS researchers, and derived the researchers' POI based on this. In addition, by examining the relationship between the POI index and the researcher's amount of research papers, the research sub field, and the foreign co-authors, it was analyzed whether these factors are relevant to the researcher's POI. As a result, there were 492 papers by 82 researchers whose OA status and method were normally identified through Unpaywall. Second, only 20.7% of papers published in international journals were open accessed, and almost cases were gold and green methods. Third, there were many papers in text mining in medical journals, and the papers opened in the green method are open in institutional repositories of foreign co-authors or transnational subject repositories such as PMC. Third, the POI index was relatively higher for researchers in the field of informetrics, machine learning than other fields. In addition, it was analyzed that the presence or absence of overseas co-authors is related to OA.
