‘역자 주-이글은 미국도서관협회 산하인 대학 및 조사연구도서관협회에서 발행하는 월간지’College and Research Libraries' 1973년 3월호(제23권 2호)에 실린 글이다. 컴퓨터가 도서관계에 많이 도입되고는 있지만 수서 및 목록문제는 여전히 가장 중심적인 문제로서 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. 그렇기 때문에 미국에서 국가적으로 계획을 추진하고 있는 것이다. 계획적인 수서와 협동목록이 국가적인 견지에서 볼 때 막대한 재정절감을 가져올 수 있는 것이기 때문이다. 비록 우리들의 형편이 컴퓨터를 미국에서와 같이 광범위하게 활용할 수 있는 단계에 있지는 않으나 선진국의 도서관들에게 다소나마 도움과 자극을 줄 수 있다면 역자로서 매우 만족스럽게 생각하는 바이다. 원문 명 및 필자: The national Program for Acquisitions and Cataloging : Its Impact on University Libraries, by Carol F. Medical libraries in Korea consume most of their budget and efforts of staffs for acquisition and administration of foreign medical journals. Annualy the rise in prices of the journals oppress the library budget. Because of these reasons, this paper studied and analyzed the possibility of cooperative acquisition of foreign medical journals between the medical libraries in Korea and several basic informations for cooperative acquisition by citation analysis method. The 5 source medical school journals were selected from our country's medical school journals: Seoul, Yonsei, Catholic, Chonnam, Kyungbook.

The purpose of this use study is to evaluate foreign science and technology serials with reference to the result of interlibrary loan activity and to present the model of cooperative acquisition. This study was based upon an analysis of actual use data by library users and Interlibrary loan from March 1, 2000 to February 28, 2001. 603 titles of foreign serials which were composed of 459 subscription titles of I University Library and 144 cooperative acquisition titles in the fields of science and technology were analyzed. The study reveals that only 439 serials(72.8%) were used even more once and 164 serials were not used at all during 1 year interval. A relationship was found between rankings of serials as measured by use and JCR citation ranking. Based upon various aspects of use analysis, this study suggested effective techniques for managing academic serials.

The purpose of this study is to identify an acquisition material duplication rate among three academic libraries for developing an academic library network. Three academic libraries located in Gyonggi-do, Korea were selected for data collection. The acquisition lists in both 2000 and 2001 were compared and analyzed between two libraries respectively. The results show that the duplication rate is 0.4% in 2000 and 2.8% in 2001 between medium in libraries, and 1.33%, 1.11% in 2000 and 3.63%, 3.88% in 2001 between a big size library and medium size libraries. These tell us that a big library can get benefit from a library network with medium size libraries.

The im of the present study is to introduce and develop the concept and theory of conspectus for the first time in Korea, and to propose a new evaluation model for book collection by actually applying the developed methodology to the collection of a special library dedicated to Biblical Studies. Conspectus is a standardized and objective evaluation method that classifies the main collection according to the division, category, subject, and then gives each collection ots appropriate collection level code by analyzing the classified collection in terms of three different dimensions, which are Current Collection Level(CL), Acquisition Commitment Level(AC), and Collection Goal Level(GL). To evaluate the collection of the sample library, shelflist analysis, list checking, acquisition data in ordering process by their main subject, and survey of its users have been carried out, and all of their results ahve been indicated in terms of eleven collection level codes developed by WLN Conspectus. T e collection of sample library was evaluated as '3cW' for CL, '4W' for AC, and '4W' for GL when the Conspectus methodology was applied for evaluation. This study could be utilized as an collection evaluation model for theological libraries, and become a basis to bring about more active cooperative collection development among related libraries.
