Generation of an Optimal Trajectory for Rotorcraft Subject to Multiple Waypoint Constraints (다중 경로점 제한 조건하의 헬리콥터의 최적 경로 생성)

  • Controlling rotorcraft to fly precisely through multiple, irregularly, and closely spaced waypoints is a common and practical mission. However, finding an optimal trajectory for this kind of mission is quite challenging. Usability of traditional approaches such as inverse control or direct methods to this kind of problem is limited because of either limitation on the specification of the constraints or requirement of extensive computation time. This paper proposes a method that can easily compute the full trajectory and control history for rotorcraft to pass through waypoints while satisfying other general constraints of states such as velocities and attitudes on each waypoint. The proposed method is applied to rotorcraft guidance problems of slalom and linear trajectory in the middle of general curved trajectory. The algorithm is test for various situations and demonstrates its usability.

Accident of Special Mission Helicopter and Safety Management (특수임무 헬리콥터의 사고분석과 안전관리)

  • Compared with past, helicopters have remarkably high level of safety and accidents due to mechanical defects are decreased about 15%. Most of their duties, however, are to commit at duty area which is hard to access. Because of them, collision probability is high and also has relatively higher accident rates than other aircraft with special mission. A result of analysis is that accident rate is relative high with prevention of disasters, putting out a fire and crop-dusting missions under 500ft. In addition, most of accidents are related with human factors. According to this, it is required to pilots who carry these mission that safety education and detailed analysis about their mission.

  • The rotorcraft-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) capable of performing close-range surveillance and reconnaissance has been developed. Trade studies on mission feasibility led to the adoption of a coaxial rotorcraft with twin rotors counter-rotating in one axis and driven by electric motors. A commercial off-the-shelf flight control computer(FCC) and a radio frequency modem were adopted for autonomous navigation. In order to achieve an aerial view, commercial charge-coupled device camera was also integrated into the vehicle. The performance of the completed vehicle was proved with manual flight test, and mission capability was verified through waypoint navigation flight after being equipped with FCC. This paper treats the whole process of design and system integration for development of the coaxial rotorcraft UAV.

  • In this study, we have generated fatigue load spectrum that is using to prediction of life time for the helicopter rotor blades. We derive utility helicopter missions for the sake of generating load spectrum. Helix and Felix are standard loading sequences which relate to the main rotors of helicopters with articulated and semi-rigid rotors respectively. We got scale factors which is applied to specific case and it did be obtained through the finite element analysis tools. The fatigue life of the rotor blade is estimated by using MSC/Fatigue. We suggest that generated our fatigue load spectrum in conjunction with small utility helicopter should use to rotor blade fatigue test of the korea helicopter program.

  • In this paper, we deducted the missions with respect to Korea utility helicopter (KUH) and consist of the scenarios which describe proper purpose of KUH. And so developed fatigue load spectrum of KUH by applying Helix that is fatigue load spectrum for blade of articulated helicopter rotor system. The developed load spectrum is applied to fatigue analysis of blade by modeled finite element with stress-life method (S-N). And we compared the result of fatigue analysis to prior to Helix for the sake of verifying the load spectrum that we generated.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a training scenario for KA-32T helicopter simulator. First, the concept of training scenario are classified into training elements and training information. Secondly, the training elements are defined according to the property of each element: flight phase, situation, and environment. The main mission of KA-32T on the operation of KFS(Korea Forest Service) is the forest fire extinguishment mission, and it is divided into the two disciplines: water supply and water discharge. Finally the mission scenario for two disciplines are defined and developed as the combination of the normal procedures of training scenario and the mission procedures.

  • A validation study is conducted for the conceptual design and performance analysis of UH-60A Black Hawk in order to establish the conceptual design and performance analysis techniques for conventional helicopters using a single main rotor and a tail rotor. As a tool for conceptual design and analysis, NDARC(NASA Design and Analysis of Rotorcraft) is used for the present study. The conceptual design for UH-60A is successfully validated as compared with the target values. Then, various performance analyses in hover and forward flight are conducted for the UH-60A model obtained from the present design work, and they are compared well with the wind tunnel test, flight test, and previous analyses using various analysis tools. Through this validation work, the conceptual design and performance analysis techniques for the conventional helicopter are appropriately established.

Preliminary Evaluation of Handling Qualities of a SAR(Search & Rescue) Helicopter Simulator Based on ADS-33 Requirements (ADS-33 평가기준에 따른 소방헬기 비행시뮬레이터의 비행조종성 예비평가)

  • As a part of the first stage in the helicopter flight simulator development, this study numerically evaluates handling qualities of the dynamics model. The flight dynamics model was generated using public information for AS365 N2, the target aircraft of the simulator. The flight simulator is under development as a pilot training and research tool for firefighting missions. The assessment of the model intends to validate general characteristics and suitability before the model is enhanced with flight test data. The evaluation is based on the ADS-33E-PRF(Aeroautical Design Standard Performance Specification Handling Qualities Requirement) criteria, with consideration of category of the aircraft, missions, and environment. The numerical operations follow required or recommended procedures of flight test for compliance demonstration. Evaluation results are evaluated according to the rating specified in maneuverability ADS-33E-PRF. Results have identified to provide a satisfactory platform for flight dynamic model in the general helicopter simulator generated based on the RotorLibFDM, and can be used as a base for basic training and research.

  • This study suggests the development of the ALE (Automatic Link Establishment) system for the long-range communication with a helicopter at the lands or marines by HF (High Frequency) radios. In the condition of LOS or more than 35 NM, the communication success rate is significantly lowered when the frequency is manually selected because of the reduced transmission power and various strong RF environment noise signals. In this paper, we make an effort to overcome the difficulties of choosing the optimal frequency when the operating frequency selection is manually operated in long-distance communication or LOS uncertain environment. The ALE system is designed based on the frequency analysis propagation software and is verified that the communication success rate is increased by applying the proposed system. The ALE system was applied to the helicopter system and the ground/flight test was conducted. As a result, the superiority and efficiency of the proposed system were verified.

  • This study is a study to analyze the stress difference of pilots according to the category of aircraft. According to previous studies, pilot stress is affected by several factors such as flight time, fatigue regulation, and operating environment, and it is known that stress also affects cardiac variability. In this paper, we analyzed that there is a difference in stress according to the operating environment through airline pilots and pilots of educational institutions, and then tested the difference in stress between airplane pilots and helicopter pilots. This study differs in that it is a study that has almost no empirical research on pilot fatigue and stress considering the role of flight crew members and operational conditions for each mission. If we expand and verify the sample of the results for the stress difference in the future, it will be a great contribution to practical aviation safety research in connection with the fatigue risk management system in the future.
