This study was conducted to compare the date on knowledge, attitude and motivation toward blood donation between donors and nondonors. The study population included 622 donors and 322 nondonors who visited the mobile blood donation car of Taegu Red Cross Blood Center and participated the group appointed blood donation campaign managed by the center from March 1 to March 31, 1989. The donors and nondonors were questioned above mentioned items with a formulated questionnaire. Among the general characteristics of the subjects in the study, male predominace(84.1% in donors and 73.6% in nondonors) in young age group (16-24 years) was the outstanding feature. As a medium of information about blood donation, "television" was playing a dominant role(donors ; 75.2%, nondonors ; 78.9%), while "magazine"played more important roles among donors. Of the donors, 70.6% and of the nondonors, 58.1% replied that they had ever been induced to donate blood (p<0.01). Major inducers were friend and personnel of mobile blood donation vehicle. On the measuring of knowledge level, the average rates of correct answer was higher in donors (62.6%) than in nondonors (54.1%) (p<0.01). Higher the education level was presented, higher the knowledge level (p<0.05). There have been noticeable difference between donors and nondonors in blood replying the questionnaire set to measure their attitude toward blood donation. especially in the items such as "impression toward blood", "selection of transfusion blood source" and "view on the situation of blood shortage." The major motivation toward blood donation of the groups were "possible future need" and "altruism or humanitarian interest". The major reasons for not donating blood in both groups were "fear of the needle" and around to visit to mobile car or center."

The present study aims to investigate the association between knowledge, attitude, and practice of blood donating in an effort to increase the participation rate of blood donation among university students. Data was obtained among 272 in theirs 20s health sciences students in two university of South Korea through self-reported questionnaires including Knowledge, attitude, and behavioral practice regarding blood donation during 8st December 2014 to 12st December 2014. Pearson correlation test, student's t-test or descriptive statistics were performed for the data analysis. The results were as follows: 1) There was positive significant relationship between Attitude and behavioral practice towards blood donation(P <.05). 2) There was significant difference in the knowledge(P<.01) and attitude(P<.05) regarding blood donation according to public health vs non-public health. 3) The participants with previous blood donation experiences showed a higher participation rate than those without such an experience(P<.01). It is important not only to improve the university student's attitude towards blood donation through media advertising but also to reinforce the compensation offered to donors.

This study examined the factors affecting blood donation intention and behavior in college students based on the theory of planned behavior. The subjects were 258 students from one college in G city, and the data was collected by a survey using self-administered questionnaires structured from June 3 to June 14, 2013. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 19.0 program, the variables affecting the blood donation intention were analyzed by stepwise multiple regression, and the variables affecting the blood donation behavior were analyzed by Logistic regression. The factors affecting the blood donation intention were in order the perceived behavioral control, attitude toward the behavior and subjective norm, and the explanatory power was 65.6%. In addition, the factor affecting the blood donation behavior was only the blood donation intention (OR=1.129, p=.010) except for perceived behavioral control. Therefore, the perceived behavioral control, attitude and subjective norm should be considered when developing blood donation programs for college students.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge and recognition about blood donation and satisfaction, look for ways to promote the idea that effective, was trying to get the plan to provide the basis for the expanding population of voluntary and continuous blood donation. A survey was from May 9, 2012 to May 24, 2012 and total 636 copies were used as final study data. The data collected analyzed with SPSS win 21.0 using descriptive methods, frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA. The results were as follows. First, the rates of the blood donors were higher in the men, in the age group from 20 to 29, in the students and in the group that received college or higher education. Second, as for the knowledge and recognition of the blood donors on blood donation, many replied they didn't know well about it. Concerning satisfaction level, they gave higher marks to satisfaction with related service than with blood donation itself. Third, the necessity of sustained blood donation promotion and education was pointed out. TV was most preferred, followed by ads on the street and ads on the subway. To expedite an increase in the blood-doner population, prolonged education and promotion are required to change the way that people in general look at blood donation, and a variety of rewards should be provided for blood donors.
The purpose of this study was to identify the difference and relations on frequency of blood donation, self-esteem and moral behavior of college students majoring in public health-related subjects. 400 college students were surveyed using structured questionnaires for a period from March to June 2014. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation Coefficient with the SPSS program. There were significantly differences in frequency of blood donation according to gender, grade, blood donation experience of family members and self-esteem. There was a significant positive correlation between frequency of blood donation and self-esteem. However, there was no significant correlation between frequency of blood donation and moral behavior. In conclusion, it has found out that the frequency of blood donation of college students majoring in public health-related subjects was related with gender, grade, blood donation experience of family members and self-esteem. Therefore, it is recommended to consider that encouragement of participation in blood donation to family members would be an effective way to increase frequency of blood donation and then It would be ideal to utilize in establishing policies and promotions towards revitalization of the blood donations.

This study is a descriptive research to identify the factors that influence blood donation intentions of the middle-aged firefighters and prison officer based on Ajzen's (1991) planned behavior theory. The subjects of the study were 223 middle-aged firefighters and prison officer at a fire station and prison located in G City and District B. The Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Turkey, and multiple regression with the SPSS 21.0 program. There were statistically significant differences in blood donation intention according to the blood donation experience, attempted blood donation within a year, participate plan in blood donation within 3 months. The blood donation intention of middle aged showed significant positive correlations with attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control towards blood donation. Multiple regression analysis for blood donation intention revealed that the significant predictors were participate plan in blood donation within 3 months, perceived behavior control, subjective norms, attitude towards blood donation, and attempted blood donation within a year. These factors explained 69% of the variance. In order to enhance the middle aged's intention to blood donation, we need a program that can improve middle aged's attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control.
Background: If donors who were deferred due to the reactivity or grey zone in HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) assay want to donate blood again, they need to pass reentry tests. On the other hand, approximately half of the donors who are subject to the reentry tests cannot be reentered. This study examined the association between the sample to cutoff (S/Co) value of the HBsAg assay and the final results of the reentry test. Methods: This study analyzed the S/Co values of the HBsAg assay and the final results of the reentry tests for the 3,947 donors from January 2008 to December 2017 using the database of Blood Information Management System of the Korean Red Cross. Results: 1,767 donors (44.8%) were not reentered among 3,947 deferred donors. Among 1,585 donors showing ${\geq}10$ of the S/Co value in the HBsAg screening test, 1,542 donors (97.3%) were not reentered. The additional reentry tests were performed on 120 donors who were not reentered in the first reentry test; 98 donors (81.7%) were still not reentered. Overall, 4.6% of the donors showing a grey zone in the HBsAg assay were not reentered. Conclusion: The reentry test needs to be restricted for the deferred donors showing a more than 10 S/Co value. The application of the grey zone of current HBsAg assay will need to be continued to enhance the HBV-related blood safety.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting the motivation for blood donation participation of university students. The subjects of this study were 200 university students in one area, and a self-report questionnaire was used for data collection. The data analysis used frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Independent T-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis. As a result of the study, the factors influencing the subjects' motivation to participate in blood donation were significant in the order of attitude toward blood donation, future blood donation plan, perceived health status, altruism, and number of blood donation experiences. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the development of educational programs to increase the motivation for blood donation participation of university students. It also suggests that there is a need to develop strategies that can increase university students' attitudes toward blood donation, altruism, and health status.

The purpose of this study was to examine knowledge, attitude, and altruism on blood donation and influential factors in regard to its experience. Data were collected through questionnaires with a convenience sample of 311 healthcare providers. Subjects with blood donation experience accounted for 63.3%. In both nurses and laboratory technologist, the rate of blood donation in male group has higher than that of female group. There were differences in the knowledge of blood donation dependent upon the type of occupation of healthcare providers and the higher age and the longer period of career experience proved to be the significant factor for the level of altruism. The study suggests that more practical, concrete strategies should be identified to participate in blood donation. The further relevant variables need to be investigated since the most determinant motivator for blood donation among healthcare providers was the responsibility to help others.
