  • This study aims to explore which aspects of student agency have previously been studied and the ways agent practices have been investigated in learning communities in research on science education. Results reveal five aspects of agency related to students' actions in a learning community: epistemic agency, transformative agency, educated action in science, disciplinary agency, and material agency. We delineated how agency is captured in epistemic practices, as described in the literature on each of the aforementioned aspects. We also probed into the three approaches by which previous research has examined the practices of students as agents that construct learning communities. These approaches are (a) the investigation of students' actions as representative of the agency of an entire learning community, (b) the exploration of the effects of focused student action on the structure of activity, and (c) the investigation of interactions between students as agents. We discussed the implications of previous research on the basis of each approach to understanding the diverse features of student-centered learning communities. The present work contributes to the exploration and support of students' practices as agents in the learning communities in science classrooms.

  • Assemblage has become a popular concept in modern socio-spatial theories with relational and material turns. This article investigates the concept of assemblage focusing on Deleuze and Guattari. By comparing similar concepts such as Foucault's apparatus and Actor-Network Theory, this article demonstrates that assemblage emphasizes not only deterritorialization but also (re)territorialization, and that the exteriality of relations is a critical aspect that differentiate assemblage from other relational spatial concepts. Assemblage can highlight the value of empiricism as an analytical tool, and be open to new spatial imaginations as well as multiple existences and possiblities of alternative political projects and practices.

  • Many of recent studies have suggested various positive outcomes of serious games. However, relatively little emphasis has been placed on the roles of user-centered factors from a psychological perspective. One of the main goals of serious games is the change of the user's perception and behavior towards a positive direction. To achieve this goal, psychological factors should be applied to the user's playing process in serious games. Inspired by construal-level theory(CLT), we propose a CLT applied model (CLT in process-outcome serious games model) considering psychological factors on the player's decision making. The model will be useful not only to game developers or designers but also to game researchers as a valuable tool in persuasion and learning for serious game users.

  • In this paper, I focus on the performativity thesis introduced and developed by Science and Technology Studies (STS) scholars such as Callon, MacKenzie, etc. since the mid 1990s. The performativity thesis was discussed in economic sociology by STS scholars has been pervaded to other research areas including general economics, accounting, finance and so on. The main idea of the thesis is that economic theories perform, shape, and format economy rather than just describe economy. I show that the thesis is based on the traditional STS ideas such as performativity derived from Merton's self-fulfilling prophecy and the actor-network theory. Although the thesis has been criticised by various researchers from both inside and outside STS, it has provided meaningful implications for understanding economic phenomenon from a viewpoint of STS. Furthermore, reflexive researches for performativity of STS theories can be discussed in the next stage.

  • In this paper, we suggest the "Fuzzy Behavior Knowledge Space(FBKS)" and explain how to utilize the FBKS when aggregating decisions of individual classifiers. The concept of "Behavior Knowledge Space(BKS)" is known to be the best method in the context that each classifier offers only one class label as its decision. However. the BKS does not considers measurement value of class label. Furthermore, it does not allow the heuristic knowledge of human experts to be embedded when combining multiple decisions. The FBKS eliminates such drawbacks of the BKS by adapting the fwzy concepts. Our method applies to the classification results that contain both class labels and associated measurement values. Experimental results confirm that the FBKS could be a very promising tool in pattern recognition areas.

  • Based on theoretical background of Situational Theory of Problem Solving(STOPS), we have examined the role of STOPS variables on a group of online public in their issue recognition and communicative behavior on Korea's nationwide civil boycott movement of Japanese goods. Results from 524 survey cases from a Korea's major online community show that two independent variables(Problem Recognition, Referent Criterion) revealed positive in their effect on mediating variable(Situational Motivation in Problem Solving). Situational Motivation also revealed positive in its effect on six dependent variables(Information Forefending, Information Permitting, Information Forwarding, Information Sharing, Information Seeking, Information Attending) of Communicative Behavior. Involvement Recognition and Constraint Recognition revealed positive without proper statistical significance. As a result, study on the case of online public in Korea supports STOPS theory as high-level of Problem Recognition and Referent Criterion effects on Communicative Behavior in positive way via Situational Motivation. Implications from the findings have discussed and proposed suggestions for government public relations and further studies.

  • This study was purposed to apply Aizen's Theory of Planned Behavior to workers using personal protective equipment. For this purpose, occupational health nurses conducted a survey of 173 male workers who were working at 6 different factories during the period from August to October 2003. The score of each variable related to the Theory of Planned Behavior was calculated: attitude (3.74); subjective norm(4.10); and perceived behavioral control (3.48). Four preceding factors were also assessed: behavioral belief(3.63); outcome evaluation(4.05); normative belief (4.20); and motivation to comply(4.03). Analysing the results, we found that two factors of the Theory of Planned Behavior are important in this case, which were subjective norm and perceived behavioral control that were found to be in a strong positive linkage with the use of personal protective equipment. Thus enhancing subjective norm and perceived behavioral control must be the most important goal of health education for workers who must use personal protective equipment. In addition, though behavioral intention, an intermediate factor of the Theory of Planned Behavior, was not measured in this study, subsequent studies are expected to include the factor in their models.

  • How can Selfish people choose moral behaviors. Xunzi thought it can be done with Human reason. For him, people move for their own interest. So they must follow Yi(禮), if they understand the life that following Yi is better than following x?ngq?ng(性情). Xunzi' theory is going to meet following two problems. One, people do not choose Yi because heir selfish is the only power to do. Second, there is nothing to blame or punishment for violators because it is not the duty. I tried to explain with two solutions for Xunzi.

  • Research misconduct has been a strong societal concern in sport and leisure studies. However, little is known about the complex mechanisms and ways of promoting research integrity. This study aimed at exploring the ways in which research integrity in sport and leisure studies could be established from the perspectives of academia. Employing a grounded theory approach, 13 academics and graduate students were invited to the study. Data were collected primarily through focus group and one-on-one follow-up interviews. Perceived negative factors contributing to research misconduct within socio-political/socio-environmental, socio-cultural, and personal contexts were identified. Three approaches, (a) top-down approach, (b) bottom-up approach, and (c) continuous education, as well as subsequent practical strategies were also suggested for the enhancement of research integrity within the field. This paper provided empirical knowledge regarding barriers to and opportunities for improving research integrity in sport and leisure studies.
