The Effect of Sunk Cost and Anchoring Effect on Shipping Finance (매몰 비용과 엥카링 효과가 선박금융에 미치는 영향)

  • Shipping companies have suffered additional losses because of irrational shipping finance decisions. This paper analyses the cases according to the behavioral finance theories. The theories of behavioral finance used in the analysis and research of this paper are the anchoring effect and sunk cost effect. The backgrounds and reasons for the decisions regarding ship financing are analysed based on the questionnaire responses and case studies. As a result of the analysis, it is found that the behavioral finance theories, anchoring effect, and sunk cost effect, have effects on the ship financing decisions, that errors related to behavioral finance can result in irrational decisions, and that shipping companies suffered additional losses because of the behavioral finance errors.

Financial management Behavior and Financial Solidity of Urban Households (도시가계의 재무관리행동과 재무건전성 - 광주광역시를 대상으로 -)

  • The purposes of this study was to analyze the effects of household characteristics and financial variables on financial management behavior and financial solidity. The major results could be summarized as follows. First, Debt management behavior and risk management behavior reveled a higher score than any other financial management behaviors. The main determinants of financial management behavior were financial communication and financial attitudes. The more positive financial attitudes and the more financial communication were, the better the financial management behavior followed. The set of households characteristics variables accounted for 2% of the variance in the financial management behaviors. But the addition of financial related variables resulted in an R2 change of 33%. Second, the financial solidity by median was 4.10. It means that usuable net asset is four times higher than the total amount of risk. Household head\`s age, financial attitudes and financial management behavior were the variables affecting the financial solidity.

  • The major purpose of this study is to find level of financial management behavior and relation factors. In addition, It is also to suggest how to overcome family financial problems on urban housewives' in the time of economic crisis and to provide the fundamental data to improve economic stability. Consequently, in the times of economic crisis, housewives' change-oriented family finance management behavior appeared to be more desirable. Through change-oriented family finance management behavior, housewives needs try to find reasonable solution to improve family cohesion and financial stability. Specially, housewives have to make use of financial information for effective financial management behavior and the financial stability of family members.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine levels of financial knowledge, to identify the financial education needs of college students, and to show how financial knowledge and education needs correlate. The results of this study indicated that the level of understanding of economy was the highest among the seven categories, whereas the overall level of financial knowledge was less than 50%. The need for financial education was relatively high in various topics of financial management, especially financial planning and savings. There was no significant relationship between knowledge level and educational needs except between financial planning and investment. Students who understand financial planning better want more financial education. College students in this study were not financially independent from their parents, receiving allowance and assistance in tuition payment, so their financial experiences were limited. Students who understood financial management showed greater need of financial education and had more financial experience. The findings in this study suggested that college should provide formal financial education as an elective course, which should include content related to financial planning and various financial products.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the financial education needs of college students and how financial education affected their perceived financial management problems. The results indicated that the need for personal financial management of the students was relatively high and that students were interested in various topics withinpersonal financial management. Formal financial education was found to have a positive impact on students' financial management behavior by reducing the probability of having problems with managing financial affairs. In addition, students' use of credit cards played a significant role in predicting problems with managing financial affairs. Several implications based on the findings were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in wives' financial management behavior according to variables related employment and income, and perceived economic instability of household. Financial management behaviors were constructed with 4 sub dimensions : investment, income expenditure, risk, and debt management behavior. The subjects of this study were 225 wives. Factor analysis and MANOVA were performed for data analysis. The results of this study were as follows : First, there were signigicant differences in financial management behavior according to variables related employment, i. e. employment state of wives and husbands. Second, there were signigicant differences in financial management behavior according to variables related income, i. e. monthly income, additional income, income stability. Third, there were signigicant differences in financial management behavior according to perceived economic instability of urban household.

Financial Management Patterns and Financial Knowledge of College Students (대학생의 재무관리행동 유형별 특성 및 재무지식 수준)

  • This study identified financial management patterns of college students, and compared socioeconomic characteristics among different groups of financial management patterns. Also, the study examined the level of financial knowledge of college students, and compared it among the groups of financial management patterns. Data fur this study were from a questionnaire completed by 4-year college students (n=364), and were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, chi-square test, and ANOVA. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the financial management patterns were categorized by four groups: rational management group, future-oriented group, active management group, and present-oriented group. Secondly, younger students were more likely to be in the present-oriented group, while older students were likely to be in the future-oriented or active management group. Male students were likely to be the active managers, but female were likely to be the rational managers. Students' income was higher for future-oriented or active management groups, and their part-time jobs and their experiences of financial education were also significant variables. Thirdly, the average score of college students' financial knowledge was 49.9 on a 100 point basis. The part of financial assets and investment had only 47 points. The group of rational managers and active managers received higher points than the other groups.

An Exploratory Study on the Financial Management Practice of Dual-Income Families - Focusing on Integrated and Individual Financial Management - (맞벌이 가계의 재무관리 행동에 대한 탐색적 연구 - 통합재무관리와 개별재무관리를 중심으로 -)

  • In this study, the various financial management systems practiced by modem dual-income families were assessed by in-depth interviews with 6 people, 3 practicing integrated financial management and 3 practicing individual financial management. The results indicated significant differences between the two financial management methods regarding family structure, individual values, and family finances. Families that practiced individual financial management consisted of weekend couples without children who showed an individual-centered value tendency and seemed to take a positive attitude towards their future economic situation due to possession of their on stabilized financial assets. Based on these results, we can expect more families to adopt methods of individual financial management and show a wider variety in their financial planning tools which will require adequate and efficient countermeasures and strategies suitable for each financial management practice.

Financial Management Behaviors of College Students (대학생 소비자의 재무관리행동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the current status of financial management behaviors of college students and to determine the affecting factors. The data were collected from 481 college students in Busan and Kyungnam areas by a self-administered questionnaire. Frequencies, Cronbach's alpha, factor analysis Pearson's correlation analysis and regression analyses were conducted by SPSS WINDOWS. The results from this study were as follows. first, the mean of preparation for the future was the highest among 5 dimensions of money attitudes, whereas the mean of the ostentatious means was the lowest. In addition, the college students showed good practices in drawing up shopping lists, budgeting, and keeping receipts, but bad practices in short-term and long-term planning. Second, many factors such as gender, grade, mother's education, fathers' occupation, and mothers' occupation were significant in the regression analyses for the financial management behaviors. Especially, money attitudes and experience of consumer education were significant in many categories of financial management behaviors. In combination, these results suggest that financial management education for college students should be conducted, and that contents related to value should be included in the education program.

An Analysis of the Relationships Among Financial Risk Components (가계 재무위험 구성요소들의 관계분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the structure of financial risk components of households. The financial risk of households was assumed to be composed of risk knowledge, risk attitude and risk management behavior. For this study, a questionnaire was developed and distributed to 700 households in Seoul and Kwangju, and there were 495 responses with usable data. The findings showed that income stability had a positive relationship with the level of risk knowledge and risk attitude. Income stability, household debt, age of the youngest child and risk knowledge were found to have direct effects on risky vs. non-risky asset ratio. Income stability, savings, age of the youngest child and risk knowledge also had significant effects on the number of risky assets owned by households. Risk knowledge was the most important determinant of risk management behavior.
