DTN Routing Protocol Utilizing Underwater Channel Properties in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (수중 무선센서네트워크에서 수중채널의 특성을 활용한 DTN 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • Recently, the ocean field researches such as offshore plant, ocean survey and underwater monitoring systems are garnering the attention from both academy and industry. However, the communication in underwater environment is very difficult because of the unique irregular features in water. This is the reason that the application of terrestrial protocols to the water environment is not proper. This paper proposes a routing algorithm that can enhance communication reliability by utilizing channel properties in underwater environment. We address two problems that lead to the poor communication performance, signal attenuation and multi-path problem in water. Overcoming these problems, the proposed algorithm ensures high packet delivery ratio and low transmission delay. Also, this paper evaluates the performance through simulation.

  • AIS-ASM is one of the studies to provide a variety of maritime safety information as well as the information on a ship's position that is their own function, and AIS-ASM has been implemented with adjustment of the relevant regulations since 2004. However, it was reported that the increased use of ASM message on the existing AIS channel affects the part of the existing AIS own function such as the transmission of the ship's position and safe-related information. Also, seamless MSP service is difficult to provide at a low transmission rate of the existing AIS channel. This study aims to reduce the marine officer's workload through automating captain's mandatory reporting items using the one of the next maritime digital communication technology (ASM2.0). For this purpose, we designed and realized the ASM2.0 protocol through analyzing domestic regulations about passenger flight and AIS-ASM message.

  • 인류의 활동 무대가 우주공간으로 확대됨으로써 우주기상에 의한 피해를 최소화 할 수 있는 조치가 요구됨에 따라 우주기상에 대한 감시 및 예 경보 업무가 필요해 졌다. 미국은 이미 우주기상 감시와 예보의 필요성을 인식하고 해양대기청(NOAA), 미 공군(USAF), 항공우주국(NASA), 내무부(DOI), 에너지부(DOE), 과학재단(NSF)이 연합하여 1996년 국가우주기상 프로그램(National Space Weather Program)을 수립.추진하고 있다. 특히 정부연구 기관인 NOAA 산하 우주기상예보센터(Space Weather Prediction Center; SWPC)와 미 공군 기상국(AFWA)은 우주기상 자료 생산, 수집, 자료 센터 운용, 연구 지원 및 예 경보 업무를 공동으로 수행하고 있으며 관련 자료 및 정보의 교환 등 매우 밀접하게 상호협력하고 있다. 최근 정부는 과학기술 7대 중점투자 분야별 중점육성후보기술로서 우주감시체계개발기술을 포함한 국가과학기술기본계획(577전략)을 수립 발표하였으며, 대한민국 공군은 향후 우주군 창설을 목표로 우주전력 기반체계구축을 계획하고 있다. 국방부는 2012년 전시작전통제권 환수에 대비한 독자적인 작전지휘능력 확보가 필요한 상황이며, 미래의 한국군 독자적 네트웍 중심 전장(NCW: Network Central Warfare) 체계 구축을 위해서는 미 공군의 "우주기상작전센터"와 같은 우주기상 예 경보 체계 구축이 요구된다. 이 연구에서는 군의 독자적 우주작전능력 확보를 위한 우주기상 예 경보 체계 구축 방향을 제시하고자 사전기반 연구를 수행하였다. 그 내용으로 우주기상에 대한 개요 및 우주기상의 변화에 따른 국내외 영향을 조사하고 국내외 우주기상 예 경보 시스템을 소개하고자 한다. 또한, 미공군의 우주기상 활용 상태를 점검하여 한국 공군을 위한 우주기상 예 경보 체계 구축 및 인력과 기술 확보에 대한 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • “The Japan Sea Rim Nations” is not one that was formed under a specific idea, as in the case of the European Community, in the respect of politics, economy and culture. At present, in particular after the Cold War, Japan has extended exchange on regional and private levels with the countries located on the other side of the Japan Sea from the first stages of friendship to economic relationships. In the future, it is necessary to promote the establishment of an international exchange network and traffic system for each of the traffic facilities in order to build up the Block that will mainly contribute to the economies of countries and regions in the area. For that purpose, it Is fundamental to reexamine the national land planning and the local development planning of each of the countries. From the standpoint of technology, the issues to be looked into are : study and development on marine civil engineering such as structures over straits : study and development on the construction engineering of express ways and express rail roads : development of vehiclessuch as cars and trains ; I propose approaches to my vision of these traffic systems from my standpoint as an engineer in this paper.

Side-scan sonar survey in the Pechora Sea, Russian Arctic (북극 페초라해의 Side-scan Sonar 해저면 음향영상)

  • As a study of Arctic marine survey project, Side-scan sonar survey was carried out in the Pechora Sea belonging to the southeaster part of Barents Sea. The study area is a shallow sea 11 m-16 m deep with recent sediments of rich organic carbon. Side-scan sonar profiles show large-scale marine plant communities 2-3 m wide covering the southeastern area. A lot of lineaments are traced on the seafloor in the central and northern area. The major trends of the lineaments are 220°and 290°(WSW-ENE and WNW-ESE). This trends is thought to be a main path of icebergs. Pockmarks on the seafloor are locally distributed in the area, which are formed by fluid and/or gas discharge. These would be related with petroleum/gas system well developed around the study area. Dut to weak appearances and limited distribution of the pockmarks, more detailed studies are necessary to examine their nature and structure.

  • In recent years global climate change of hurricanes and torrential rains are going to significantly, that increase damages to property and human life. The disasters have been several claimed in every field. In future, climate changes blowing are keen to strike released to the world like in several movies. Reducing the damage of long-term weather phenomena are emerging with predicting changes in weather. In this study, it is shown how to predict the red tide phenomenon with multiple linear regression analysis and artificial neural network techniques. The red tide phenomenon causing risk could be reduced by filtering sensor data which are transmitted and forecasted in real time. It could be ubiquitous driven custom marine information service system, and forecasting techniques to use throughout the meteorological disasters to minimize damage.

여름철 낙뢰 발생 시 강수 및 위성의 휘도온도 특성

  • 낙뢰란 뇌운 속에서 분리 축적 된 음 (-)과 양 (+)의 전하 사이 또는 뇌운 속의 전하와 지면에 유도되는 전하 사이에서 발생하는 불꽃 방전을 말한다. 뇌운 안에는 이 불꽃 방전을 반복하기에 충분한 전하의 분리가 계속 일어나고 있는데, 그 결과 양전하 (+)는 구름의 상부에 넓게 분산되어 분포하고, 음전하 (-)는 주로 구름 하부에 분포한다. 이 때 음전하가 대지로 방전되어 발생하는 낙뢰를 부극성 (-)낙뢰, 양전하가 대지로 방전되어 발생하는 낙뢰를 정극성 (+)낙뢰라 한다. 낙뢰의 약 80%는 구름 내부 또는 구름 대 구름 사이에서 발생하고, 약 20%만이 구름과 지면 사이에서 발생하는데, 이러한 구름-지면 낙뢰 (Cloud-to-ground lightning)는 가장 위험하고 그 피해도 크다. 우리나라는 동아시아 몬순 기후의 영향으로 여름철에 대기가 불안정하여 낙뢰가 집중적으로 발생하며, 복잡한 지형과 해양의 영향으로 낙뢰현상의 공간적 변동도 크게 나타난다. 이러한 낙뢰는 최근으로 올수록 강도가 증가하고 있어 그 피해의 증가가 우려되기 때문에 낙뢰 발생 특성에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 낙뢰자료와 강수자료, 그리고 시 공간 분해능이 뛰어난 MTSAT-1R (Multi-functional Transport SATellite - 1 Replacement) 정지궤도 위성의 휘도온도를 이용하여 낙뢰 발생 시 강수 및 위성 휘도온도의 특성을 분석하고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 대류활동에 대한 정보 제공 뿐 아니라, 낙뢰 예측성 향상 및 재해 경감에도 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 2001년 기상청에 도입되어 운영 중인 신 낙뢰관측 시스템 (Total Lightning Detection System, TLDS)에서 관측된 낙뢰자료와 MTSAT-1R 위성에서 관측된 휘도온도 자료, 그리고 자동기상관측장비 (Automatic Weather System, AWS)에서 관측된 강수자료를 사용하였으며, 세 자료의 출처는 모두 기상청이다. 분석 기간은 2006년부터 2007년까지이며 우리나라에서 낙뢰발생 빈도가 여름철에 집중되어 나타나는 것을 고려하여 여름철 (6~8월) 낙뢰에 대해서만 분석하였다. 또한 낙뢰 발생 사례에 대하여 관측 효율이 90% 이상으로 알려진 위도 $33{\sim}39^{\circ}N$, 경도 $124{\sim}130^{\circ}E$ 영역에서 낙뢰발생시 강수 및 위성 휘도온도의 특성을 분석하였다. 사례는 낙뢰 발생 횟수가 많은 날을 중심으로 먼저 적외영상과 낙뢰영상을 정성적으로 분석한 후 뇌우의 지속시간이 긴 9개 사례를 선정하였다. MTSAT-1R 위성과 낙뢰자료 및 강수자료는 관측주기와 공간규모가 서로 다르기 때문에 세 자료를 함께 사용하기 위해서는 시 공간을 일치시키는 과정이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 위성자료 관측시간(00분, 33분)과 AWS 지점 위 경도를 시 공간 일치를 위한 기준으로 사용하였다.

  • Drag reduction produced by the dilute solution of polymer under turbulent flow in a rotating disk apparatus(RDA) was investigated in this study for the purpose of potential application to the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) system. Four different molecular weights of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) were used as drag reducing additives, and synthetic seawater was adopted as a solvent. Experiments were undertaken to observe the dependence of drag reduction on various factors such as polymer molecular weight, polymer concentration and the rotating speed of the disk. The concentration dependence on the drag reduction of this polymer system was shown to obey an empirical drag reduction equation of the Virk's universal correlation.

Anti-biofouling properties of silver nano-particle coated artificial light-weight aggregates (은 나노 입자가 코팅된 인공경량골재의 생물오손 방지 특성)

  • Ships and marine structures have a lot of problems in their high maintenance and operating cost by biofouling. A biofouling occurrs by the adhesion of marine microorganism, algae and bacteria. In this study, the aim is to prevent or to reduce the biofouling phenomena through silver nano-particle coating on artificial light-weight aggregates and geopolymer. The antibacterial activity on them is tested according to ASTM E2149-2013a. The test results showed, it is estimated that silver nano-particles removed 99.99 % of bacteria. Specimens were set up in the sea side of field test area in Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) and have been observed for five months. The anti-biofouling effect and difference in weight change rate have been detected two months later after the installation. Because silver nanoparticles inhibit bacterial growth and kill the cells by destroying bacterial membranes, silver nano-particle coating on artificial lightweight aggregates is a well-suited and eco-friendly method for preventing biofouling in the sea up to 5 months.

  • Recently, construction site scale has been growing larger along with the growth of national economy. As construction market requires time reduction, cost saving, and improving quality, a cutting-edge technology applied research has been gradually studied for more efficient project management. In particular, the Real Time Location System (RTLS) technology, a real-time location tracking system of construction resources, can be effectively used in safety management. This technology has been studied and applied in various industries including architectural, marine, urban, and other industries. However, although tunnel construction in civil engineering has a narrow space and many safety risks, there are not researched about this content. Therefore, this study proposes an advanced safety management model for tunnel construction using the RTLS technology and a measurement method of the feasibility of this model in the construction site.
