  • An optical interference method was developed for measuring rapidly growing and evaporating liquid condensate films (e.g., Na$_{2}$SO$_{4}$, $K_{2}$SO$_{4}$) on solid surface exposed to flowing combustion product gases at film thicknesses well below the onset of complications due to run-off. To develop this optical system, this study investigated the optical parameters (e.g., polarization state, incident angle, target roughness, etc.) Trends for the Na$_{2}$SO$_{4}$(l) and $K_{2}$SO$_{4}$(l) deposition rates as a function of target temperature using this optical measuring system agree with the theoretical prediction of the vapor deposition. This study was able to extend the experimental range for vapor plus condensed phase transport and deposition. While previously unable to measure the evaporation rates interferometrically, these rates are estimated from the results of the investigation of polarization states.

  • This paper presents a Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) drive using the self-tuning control method to achieve the maximum torque. SRM has the difficulty to research it by an analytic method and to control the speed End torque because of the high nonlinearity. So, in this paper, the self-tuning control method is applied to relevantly controlling turn-on/off angle to operate at the maximum torque. Also, the feedback signals to control the turn-on/off angle are the encoder pulse and the increment of phase current. At first, n adequate turn-off angle is searched by itself and then a turn-on angle is done. As the relationship between turn-on and him-off angle is mutual dependent, the turn-on/off angle is controlled by a real time self-tuning control method in order to maintain the maximum torque. The proposed self-tuning Algorithm is verified by experiments.

  • Wavelength conversion devices are essential to build an expanding all-optical network, and various types of wavelength conversion techniques are being researched. Among them, wavelength conversion based on the cross phase modulation in a directionally coupled semiconductor optical amplifier has been introduced and the concept has been experimentally proved. In this paper, a split-step method is applied to properly model the mentioned wavelength converter in the time-domain and various characteristics have been analyzed. It is shown that the present modeling approach can explain the results of the reported experimental results. Furthermore the wavelength conversion is shown to be well performed when the input signal wave and the converted wave travels in the opposite direction. The simulation shows that the positive and negative chirping appear simultaneously at both the leading and trailing of edges of the optical pulse.

  • As the interest about ubiquitous environment is increasing, there are many researches about the services in this environment. These services have important issues in interpreting the users' context, using many kinds of sensors, like PDA, GPS and accelerometers. Low level raw data, which sensors like accelerometers calibrates, are hard to use, and to provide real-time services preprocessing and interpreting the data into context, in real-time, is important. This paper describes a context integrate system which can integrate these sensors and also sensors which has raw data, like accelerometers and physiological sensors, and define the context interpret rule with XML. The proposing system reduces programming operations when adding a sensor to the sensor network or modifying the context interpreting rule by using XML. By using this system, we implemented a real-time data monitoring system which can describe the numeric data into graphs, and assist the user to validate the data and results of the preprocess phase, and also support the external services and applications to use the context of the user.

  • In this paper, we develop a vibration pattern editor and a vibration pad controller for a sound-driven vibration system, which can generate diverse vibration effects in realtime by analyzing signals from the sound output of PC. It consists of a DSP system to analyze the sound, a wrist-wearable vibration pad, and its controller. For the vibration pattern editor, we define four elements to describe the pattern the locations of vibrating elements, start time, duration, and vibration intensity. The editor provides a GUI through which users can create such patterns fast and easily, and store them for reuse. We also propose a pattern-interpreting controller. It is able to interpret patterns created by the editor and control the pad accordingly. It can avoid the need to change the controller firmware whenever desired patterns change.

  • We perform an analysis of the characteristics of the time-reversal pulse in Rayleigh or Ricean fading channel environments. We verify it by using Monte Carlo simulation. In a time-reversal system, each antenna in the time-reversal array receives signals from the transmitter and reverse the received signal in the time axis and then resend it to the original transmitter. We assume that the channel characteristics varies very slowly and the spatial separation between the antennas is not large. Hence the signals received by each antenna are correlated. In this paper, the effect of the correlation on the time-reversed pulse is examined, which includes the spatial properties of the time-reversal pulse such as the focus size, and spatial power distribution.

  • Satellite generates a complex electromagnetic noise by conducted and radiated coupling effect of the various electrical instruments. This noise may cause serious problems on the satellite system. To minimize the electromagnetic coupling effects and maintain the system safety margin, system noise reduction technique should be applied from the beginning of the system design. The COMS system is evaluated by measuring the conducted noise on system electrical power leads at PSR(Power Supply Regulator) and verifying a 6 dB system safety margin under the complex noise environment with current injection. The radiated noise due to the complex transmit antenna configuration is evaluated by integrating all unit-level RE measurement results, and the RF compatibility between spacecraft and launch vehicle is analyzed with the above estimations. This paper describes the COMS EMC compatibility analysis with respect to each unit level EMC test results, and RF compatibility analysis between spacecraft and launch vehicle. The analyzed results will be reflected on FM(Flight Model) EMC test.

  • We studied on the nondestructive evaluation of the elastic wave signals of locally wall thinned straight pipe. Wavelet transform was applied for the time-frequency analysis of waveforms obtained by fracture wave detector due to the dropping steel ball. The time-frequency analysis provides time variation of each frequency component involved in a waveform, which makes it possible to evaluate the shape of local wall thinning at each frequency. In this study, comparison by wavelet transform of the AE signals and monotonic bending tests without internal pressure are conducted on 1.91 inch diameter full-scale carbon steel pipe specimens. As the results of tests, fracture behaviors could be shown by the characteristic of mechanical strength of locally wall thinned pipes and the waveforms could be evaluated for the integrity insurance of the piping system according to the length and depth range of the deffeted shape pipes in the real field.

  • In this paper, we analyze the main performance of satellite's Synthetic Aperture Radar system for high resolution and wide swath. We have used the radiation pattern of reflector antenna with array feed and comparison between the conventional ScanSAR mode and SweepSAR mode has been carried out. The SweepSAR mode is a high-resolution wide-swath mode that transmits beams over a wide range and receives echo signals through sequential beamforming based on SCORE(SCan On REceive). In this paper, we analyzed the operating principle and characteristics of satellite's SweepSAR mode and simulate system performances. In addition, in order to increase the utilization of image, performances analysis for multiple frequency bands(C-band, X-band) has been considered.
