  • In this study, we analyzed the food components in the release product that sampled Sinonovacula constricta from the foreshore littoral at Byeongnyang-myeon, Suncheon Bay. We used microscopy and next-generation sequencing (NGS) to evaluate the applicability of morphological and molecular methods to analyze release products. The higher species diversity observed in the NGS method is due to the different levels of species identification, as microscopy displays morphological and anatomical levels of plankton species identification in S. constrita. Moreover, NGS can identify the level of species in the organic matter by using the 18s_V9 primer.

  • The objective of this study was to identify the effects of ozone on the two species in controlled environment. $Sedum$ $kamtschaticum$ and $Hosta$ $longipes$ were exposed in both control and ozone chamber to investigate photosynthesis, antioxidant enzyme activity, visible damage, the number and the size of stomata and the plastogloubuli. Ozone was fumigated in the concentration of $200{\mu}g{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ for 8 hours in a day (from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM). Firstly, net photosynthesis of two species was decreased after ozone fumigation. Secondly, glutathione reductase activities showed significant difference between control and ozone treatment. Thirdly, visible symptoms of leaves were expressed such as chlorosis, necrosis and decoloration. Also, the size of stoma was significantly decreased in ozone-exposed plants. Furthermore, the intercellular space of $Hosta$ $longipes$ showed increased phenomenon because the mesophyll was collapsed. The number and the size of the plastogloubuli were significantly larger in ozone stress.

  • We undertook this study to determine the plantar pressure distribution characteristics of hallux valgus, major increasing foot disease. Twenty three valgus Patients were evaluated with clinical examinations, radiologic studies and dynamic plantar pressure distribution measurements. The present study also suggested a masking method for detailed analyses on plantar pressure distribution measurements. With higher grade of hallux valgus, pressure, contact area, and impulse on metartasus are significantly increased Pressure concentration is very important in foot diseases and an approximate plantar pressure distribution should be considered on any shoe design.

  • Anatomical and physical characteristics of damaged wood by forest fire and sound wood of Pinus densiflora were examined. Granular substances were found in resin canals, epithelial cells and ray parenchyma cells of damaged wood, but the other distinctive marks of wood structure in damaged wood were not observed. Damaged wood showed slightly higher relative crystallinity in outermost growth ring than sound wood. Green moisture content and water absorptions both in tangential and radial sections of damaged wood were lower than those of sound wood. There were no significant differences in shrinkage, swelling and basic density between damaged and sound woods.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the characteristics of historical papers and cloths found at Neunggasa temple, Goheunggun, Chonnam Province, Korea, using light microscopy, image analysis and SEM-EDS for fiber morphology and trace metal composition. All papers were made from paper mulberry. Transparent membrane, which was separated from bast fiber, was unique in these fibers. The papers found on the wall of Daewungjun were most highly degraded and those of the books, which were excavated under Cheungwangmun, were relatively well preserved. The cloths found under the statue 'Dong-bangjiguk' were silk, very narrow fiber without any marks. In the analysis of SEM-EDS, high content of silica was detected. Also small content of calcium was taken into consideration. Content of iron and chlorine were discussed from the viewpoint of potentially harmful elements for the conservation of paper. The composition of trace elements could not be used to determine the origins of papers.

  • Skin is the soft outer covering of vertebrates. In mammals, the skin is the largest organ of the integumentary system made up of multiple layers of ectodermal tissue, and guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. There is a difference of the physiological function and anatomical structure of the skin, as body parts, sex, age, race and nutritional status. In this study, we measured the moisturizing ability of the skin of the 20s Chinese and Korea in Korean. We found that the skin hydrating of Chinese is significantly higher than Korean and TEWL of Chinese is lower than Korean. We measured the moisturizing ability of both 20s Chinese and Korean. As result, the moisturizing ability of 20s Chinese is better than Korean.

  • To characterize flooding-affected anatomical morphology changes in soybean, flooding-tolerant cv Pung-sannamulkong (PSNK) and flooding-sensitive cv. Sobaek-namulkong (SBNK) at 5 trifoliate leaf stage were exposed to flooding by maintaining tap water 2 cm above soil surface for 9 days and resultant microscopic anatomical changes in leaf and hypocotyl cross-sections along with chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate changes were compared. Flooding-sensitive SBNK exhibited more significant decrement in chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, number of palisade parenchyma, and leaf dry matter compared to cv. PSNK. Flooding decreased fineness of palisade parenchyma, while inducing wider xylem vessel, especially in PSNK. The aerenchyma formation in hypocotyls under flooding could be observed only in flooding-resistant PSNK. All these anatomical changes seems to be related with higher physiolocial activity and resultant resistance against flooding in PSNK compared to flood-sensitive PSNK.
