A Development Strategy of Busan New Port by a Comparative Analysis on Singapore and Hong Kong Ports (싱가포르 및 홍콩항과의 비교분석에 의한 부산 신항의 발전전략)

  • In order for Busan New Port to secure more trading volumes than the competing ports at home and abroad, an alternative plan for the new port management policy needs to be sought. By the way, aiming to minimize trial and error while maximizing effect in establishing and driving the new port management policy, there is necessity of referring to the developmental strategies of the advanced ports such as Singapore and Hong Kong that are possessing the globally leading position as well as maximizing the substantial value added and the employment-creation effect even qualitatively. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to propose for a reasonable development strategy for Busan New Port in line with conditions and characteristics of Busan New Port by comparing and analyzing conditions and characteristics of these two advanced ports and by comparative analysis on the developmental strategy according to this.

  • This paper focuses upon the relationship between port and port city. The purpose of this study is to theoretically review the relationship between port and its city, and to identify crucial policy directions for mutual development of port and the backward city in the case of Gwangyang Port (GP), Korea. The contents of this paper consist of five main sections: introduction; a concept of port-port city relationship; an analysis of the relationship between GP and its city; policy directions for GP city; conclusion. This study was mainly conducted by a literature review of the papers/reports and the analysis of secondary data. Significant policy strategies are associated with development of value-added logistics, expansion of additional port business, vitalization of port hinterlands, and establishment of port logistics clusters in terms of port economic function. Green port operation, improvements of coastal environment, establishment of port waterfronts, and conceptual port redevelopment master plan are included in the major port city development strategies in terms of sustainable development. Another major port city development strategies contain major port city master plan, institutional arrangements for port city development, specialized port city development policy, and formation of free trade port city in relation to integrated port-port city planning and management.

  • 급변하는 동북아 항만물류환경 속에서 부산항이 동북아 물류중심지로 발전할 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위해서 SWOT/AHP 분석을 이용하여 부산지역 항만물류클러스터를 둘러싸고 있는 대내외적인 환경 중 중요한 요인들을 파악하여 각 요인들에 대해 쌍대비교 평가를 수행한 후 우선순위를 도출하여 부산지역 항만물류클러스터를 발전시킬 수 있는 전략적 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 도출된 우선순위를 바탕으로 전략수립의 단계는 제시하였지만, 전략별 세부추진방안은 구체적으로 제시하지 못하여 차후 연구가 수행되어야 할 것이다.

  • 국제교류의 증가와 물동량 증가에 따른 선박의 초대형화로 인해 각 나라의 항만들도 대형화되고 있다. 국내 항만들도 국제적인 추세에 따라 대형항만의 건설에 박차를 가하고 있다. 하지만 무분별한 항만 개발과 글로벌 경제위기로 인한 물동량 감소는 우리나라 중소형항만의 물동량이 감소하는 원인이 되었고, 이는 결국 항만시설 공급과잉 현상의 원인이 되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내 중소형항만들의 공급과잉 현상을 극복하기 위한 방안들과, 중소형항만들의 발전전략을 제시하고자 한다.

  • The environmental changes in ports such as large size, high technology, and efficiency are greatly realized and advanced ports focus on the research and development for the port technology to be hub ports in each continent. It is necessary to continuously develop the port technology in order to confront those changes. The continuous development of the port technology leads to not only the growth of the domestic port industry but also the preoccupation of the world's industry and the increase of the export amount related to the port technology. This paper examines the state of the art in the domestic and foreign port technology and proposes the development policies and strategies of the domestic port technology.

  • This study suggests a strategic direction for developing the Port of Busan based on evaluating and prioritizing the relative importance of competitiveness factors for ports using SWOT analysis and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. The Port of Busan is the world's sixth largest container port and the largest port in South Korea. The Port of Busan constitutes a key industrial infrastructure for an exporting country. Despite the economic and industrial importance of the Port of Busan, little research has examined its strategic development. This study derives a SWOT matrix for evaluating the competitiveness of factors from previous studies and expert reviews, and it constructs a hierarchical analysis structure model based on the SWOT matrix. To deduce a strategic direction for developing the Port of Busan, a questionnaire based on SWOT·AHP was distributed to industrial and academic associations to prioritize competitive factors. This study presents four strategic tactics based on strengths (S), weaknesses (W), opportunities (O), and threats (T) (S/O, S/T, W/O, and W/T) as strategic directions for developing the Port of Busan. This study will contribute objectively to the overall effort by the government to improve the operation of the Port of Busan and establish development strategies.

  • Development strategies of Saemangeum New Port are as follows : First, get port terminal areas to be larger. Second, establish the strategy of investment attraction in consideration of the cargo to be handled in Saemangeum New Port. Third, attract regional cargo from such Chinese provinces as Gangso and Sandongseong so as to differentiate it from the existing ports. Finally, construct such connecting programmes as the strategy of the Hub-and-Spoke calling at ports that can make a mutual win-win competition rather than an opposing competition to attract the cargo from the existing port.

  • Yeosu Gwangyang Port, along with Busan Port, Incheon Port, Ulsan Port, and Pyeongtaek Dangjin Port, serves as Korea's top five ports for trade on the southern coast. It is the second largest port in Korea after Busan Port, and the largest port in terms of import and export volume. Yeosu Chemical Industrial Complex, the world's largest chemical industrial complex, has continued to grow rapidly, but recently, the increase in volume has been decreasing. Therefore, this study sought to find major development strategies for the development of Yeosu Gwangyang Port and to derive the priorities of the strategies. To this end, the development strategy of Yeosu Gwangyang Port was divided into three major categories: operation revitalization, infrastructure construction, and policy support using the AHP analysis technique and analyzed again in two aspects: short, medium, and long term. As a result of the analysis, 'integrated operation of container docks and strengthening competitiveness' were considered the most important in short- and medium-term policies. It is believed that it will be necessary to integrate container operators, establish routes in preparation for entry of super-large ships, and install large cranes. In the long-term policy, the most important thing was to foster high value-added industries based on local industries. It is believed that strategies are needed to attract companies from outside regions through the settlement support system. The results of this study are expected to be used to establish development strategies for Yeosu Gwangyang Port and to establish investment priorities.
