  • The longitude and latitude of a geosynchronous satellite are not defined as a point in space because of various external perturbations. To perform the missions of a satellite for a communication and broadcasting, the satellite must be positioned within a predefined station keeping box in given limited space longitude. In this study, we propose east-west station keeping box larger than that of north-south station. By using the derived error equation, we verified the Koreasat station keeping box allocation by assuming one week and two weeks of station keeping cycle.

  • This paper presents a multi-sensor data simulator and a data fusion algorithm for tracking high dynamic flight target from Radar and Telemetry System. The designed simulator generates time-asynchronous multiple sensor data with different data rates and communication delays. Measurement noises are incorporated by using realistic sensor models. The proposed fusion algorithm is designed by a 21st order distributed Kalman Filter which is based on the PVA model with sensor bias states. A fault detection and correction logics are included in the algorithm for bad data and sensor faults. The designed algorithm is verified by using both simulation data and actual real data.

  • By means of the our satellite development for the past 20 years, it ensure us to obtain domestic independent development capabilities. In the case of practical-class Low-Earth Orbit(LEO) remote sensing satellites, we become a world-class developer. Furthermore, we acquire the technology to develop domestic-leading geostationary satellites, depending on the mission. Currently, we proceed with the next-generation mid-size satellite development program featuring standard bus for the expansion of the world market and has embarked on the development of lunar orbiter from this year.

  • Satellite payload can be classified as electro-optical payload, SAR, microwave radiometer, communication payload, navigation payload and so on in accordance with the mission objective. The technology of satellite payload was tried to be obtained through development of KOMPSAT series, COMS and STSAT in Korea. In this paper, the required technology for the development and world market trend of satellite payload were studied and described. Since KOMPSAT program has been started in 1994, technology status and future prospects of satellite payload in Korea are studied and analyzed.

  • This paper will describe the structure and characteristics of operator training system which was developed to maintain the quality of operational ability for COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) operators during a long-term nominal operations of missions and a contingency operations against an occurrence of anomaly. In particular it will present benefits and expected effects of the training system with a focus on three parts which are functions especially for trainer-friendly failure injection, an automatic sequencer of training scenario based on the predefined plan and additional functions of the existing COMS simulator. Furthermore, it will present a practical example of training on the training system to understand the overall mechanism of training process.

  • Recently, the north-pole reception and processing station of KOMPSAT-2 has been installed. KOMPSAT-2 can contact maximum 14 times per a day and download maximum 70 minutes of image data. According to these feature, over 1500 product can be acquired using north-pole station. However, the product order interface of legacy system had been used non-automatic order interface which can cause human-error. In this paper, the automatic order interface, which uses XML format, is described. Using the Product Order Interface, a product can be accurately ordered without any kind of error.

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) satellite system for broad-area imaging has RF systems including SAR radiating a high power, data link system transmitting the acquired image data from the SAR, TC&R(Telemetry, Command, and Ranging) to communicate with a ground segment to control a satellite. Each system transmits RF signal having various frequencies and radiates a high power, RS(Radiated Susceptibility) specification should be verified at an electronic unit mounted in satellite. RF interference can be happened because of non-linearity of a RF system. Therefore, we manufactured a structure model installed antennas which have a similar pattern with a real antenna, the effect by RF interference is analyzed and verified.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation for spread spectrum FTS encoder and decoder. The FTS command format is defined by 64 bit encrypted packet that contains all required information relayed between the ground and the vehicle. Encryption is accomplished using the Tripple-DES encryption algorithm in block encryption form. The proposed FTS encoder and decoder is using the Convolution Encoding and Viterbi Decoding for forward error correction. The Spread Spectrum Modulation is done using a PN code, which is 256 bit gold code. The simulation result shows that the designed FTS decoder is compatible with the designed FTS encoder.

  • In this study, a survey of time synchronization methods between the remote places. Generally, there are many kinds of time synchronization methods for distant places and they can be grouped three categories according to the type of time transfer methods. The three methods are ground based network, GPS/NAVSTAR and geostationary satellite. Especially, the relay base stations for wireless digital communication are operated based on the timing signal service of the GPS/NAVSTAR satellite network. And as the back-up of the timing signal service of the GPS/NAVSTAR, the geostationary satellite based time synchronization method have researched. In this short paper, the brief explanations about each category were presented.

  • Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite (COMS) has the hybrid mission of meteorological observation, ocean monitoring, and telecommunication service. The COMS is located at $128.2^{\circ}$ East longitude on the geostationary orbit and currently under normal operation service since April 2011. For the sake of the executions of the meteorological and the ocean mission as well as the satellite control and management, the satellite mission planning is daily performed. The satellite mission plans are sent to the satellite by the real-time operation and the satellite executes the missions as per the mission plans. In this paper the mission planning for COMS normal operation is discussed in terms of the ground station configuration and the characteristics of daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal mission planning activities. The successful mission planning is also confirmed with the first one-year normal operation results.
