Development of Android-Based Photogrammetric Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System (안드로이드 기반 무인항공 사진측량 시스템 개발)

  • Normally, aero photography using UAV uses about 430 MHz bandwidth radio frequency (RF) modem and navigates and remotely controls through the connection between UAV and ground control system. When using the exhausting method, it has communication range of 1-2 km with frequent cross line and since wireless communication sends information using radio wave as a carrier, it has 10 mW of signal strength limitation which gave restraints on life my distance communication. The purpose of research is to use communication technologies such as long-term evolution (LTE) of smart camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and other communication modules and cameras that can transfer data to design and develop automatic shooting system that acquires images to UAV at the necessary locations. We conclude that the android based UAV filming and communication module system can not only film images with just one smart camera but also connects UAV system and ground control system together and also able to obtain real-time 3D location information and 3D position information using UAV system, GPS, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and magnetic measuring sensor which will allow us to use real-time position of the UAV and correction work through aerial triangulation.

  • The flight test of ADS-B is to demonstrate operational benefits to air traffic controllers and pilots when other aircraft data including the aiming altitude is displayed on CDTI. Additionally, This ADS-B study is to provide first operational experience of ADS-B in ATCS environment of South Korea and provide practical information to ATCS before deployment of ADS-B in South Korea is considered. Participation in the flight test has been limited to 2 Aircraft of H University which are installed ADS-B equipment and the ground station has installed in Tae-An airport. This test have been experimented according to the pre-arranged flight procedures of Tae-An airport. As a result of the test, it has shown that the number of radio transmitting and the time of radio occupied between controller and pilot are remarkably reduced. Besides, as both pilot and air traffic controller are able to see the traffic information in the vicinity of the aircraft, the test has demonstrated that it is possible for ADS-B not only to decline the controller's workload, but also to enhance pilot situational awareness in the near future.

  • HLA is made for interoperability and reusability as distributed system framework under DMSO. RTI provides the necessary services for message transmission, object management as HLA 's understructure. But its performance can decrease as it becomes larger and more complex because of communication overhead. To solve this problem, RTI and TCP socket are partially used during data exchange and OMM is designed to efficiently manage objects. The efficiency of the proposed method is proved through simulation when it is applied to an air traffic control simulation based on HLA/RTI.

  • The purpose of study is to investigate the current user interface level of air traffic control system with the usability analysis and satisfaction survey questionnaire on user satisfaction. Think aloud protocol is used to identify not only task analysis, but also the level of user-friendliness of the FIMS and ASDE system, and the user interface questionnaires was conducted by QUIS. We collected data from 6 controllers for Think aloud protocol and 15 controllers for QUIS in Incheon airport. The results showed that the system was the valuable tool for ensuring human performance with the support of memory and the facilitation of decision-making tasks. It helps air traffic controllers perform better and minimize errors in a congested time. The human-computer interface system design, however, was not applied, which led to the increase of workload. Air traffic controller participation in software development provided excellent examples for applications in terms of software in FIMS. Based on these results, the study provided that the usability of system interface was necessary to take into account human factors.   • 정지궤도 위성을 제외한 대부분의 저궤도 위성 및 심우주 관측용 위성은 임무를 수행하면서 하루동안에도 제한된 시간동안만 지상국과의 통신이 가능하다. 따라서 위성 운영에 고수준의 자율적 제어기능이 요구된다. OBCP(On-Board Control Procedures)는 별도로 개발된 언어로 작성한 작은 용량의 스크립트 프로그램을 통해 위성을 제어하는 기능을 제공한다. 이러한 방법을 통해 지상관제 시에 위성의 임무수행동안 수행되어야 하는 다양하고 복잡한 운영 시퀀스를 용이하게 준비하고 업로드할 수 있다. OBCP는 위성비행소프트웨어와는 분리된 별도의 서브시스템으로 수행되기 때문에 새로운 위성운영 프로시져의 생성을 위해 위성비행소프트웨어의 수정, 재검증, 코드업로드 등의 절차가 요구되지 않으며 지상에서 개발 및 검증시험을 완벽하게 수행할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 저궤도 관측위성에서 사용되었던 위성의 자율적 제어 시퀀스 기능과 OBCP의 기능을 비교하여 설명하고, 실제 Herschel and Plank 위성에 활용된 예를 통해 OBCP의 개념 및 설계 방안에 대하여 소개한다.

  • This paper introduces the system for KAU-SPUAV, which is designed and developed by Korea Aerospace University, and verifies its performance through flight test. Specification of two versions of KAU-SPUAV, avionics system, and Ground Control System (GCS) are introduced. Three missions are performed with suggested UAVs: LTE signal mapping, circumnavigation of Jeju island seashore, and long endurance flight. Each mission consists of long distance and long endurance flight which takes advantage of KAU-SPUAV. Research team of KAU-SPUAV confirmed its versatility through suggested flight data. Also based on flight results, the team found the potential of performance improvement of KAU-SPUAV.

  • In this paper, we states the verification and validation methodology for the modular system of A-SMGCS which defined in the ICAO Manual on Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems. Such systems aim to maintain the declared surface movement rate under all weather conditions while maintaining the required level of safety. With the complete concept of an A-SMGCS, air traffic controllers, vehicle drivers, flight crews, and are assisted with surface operations in terms of surveillance, control, routing/planning and guidance tasks. A-SMGCS verification and validation for the development of Real Time Simulation, shadow mode trials, operational trials are conducted through three methods. In this study, the characteristics and the need for such a verification method was examined.

  • KOMPSAT-1 AOCS mode divided into three major mode like Sun, Maneuver, Science Mode. The Maneuver mode consist of attitude hold and Δ-V Burn submode. This paper focus on the analysis of AOCS Maneuver Mode characteristics based on on-orbit playback data. The nadir pointing performance of attitude hold submode and the process for Δ-V Burn firing with plus/ minus 90 degree pitch/ roll maneuvering was verified. And also verified that the on-orbit performance meets the AOCS subsystem specification as designed.

  • Recently the demand for drones is rapidly increasing, as developing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and growing interest in them. Compared to traditional satellite and aerial imagery, it can be used for various researches (environment, geographic information, ocean observation, and remote sensing) because it can be managed with low operating costs and effective data acquisition. However, there is a disadvantage in that only a small area is acquired compared to the satellite and an aircraft, which is a traditional remote sensing method, depending on the battery capacity of the UAV, and the distance limit between Ground Control System (GCS) and UAV. If remote control at long range is possible, the possibility of using UAV in the field of remote sensing can be increased. Therefore, there is a need for a communication network system capable of controlling regardless of the distance between the UAV and the GCS. The distance between UAV and GCS can be transmitted and received using simple radio devices (RF 2.4 GHz, 915 MHz, 433 MHz), which is limited to around 2 km. If the UAV can be managed simultaneously by improving the operating environment of the UAV using a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) communication network, it can make greater effects by converging with the existing industries. In this study, we performed the maximum straight-line distance 6.1 km, the test area 2.2 ㎢, and the total flight distance 41.75 km based on GCS through LTE communication. In addition, we analyzed the possibility of disconnected communication through the base station of LTE communication.

Study of Speech Recognition System Operation for Voice-driven UAV Control (음성 기반 무인 항공기 제어를 위한 음성인식 시스템 운용 체계 연구)

  • As unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been utilized for military operation, efficient ways for controlling UAV has been necessary. In particular, instead of conventional approach using console control, speech recognition based UAV control is essential for military environments in which rapid command operation is required. But research on this novel approach is not actively studied yet. In this study, we introduce efficient ways of speech recognition system operation for voice-driven UAV control, focusing on mission command control from manned aircraft rather than ground control center. We propose an efficient way of system operation for UAV control in cooperation of aircraft and UAV, and verify its efficiency via speech recognition experiment.
