Many studies of Korean immigrants in America reveal that about 70% of them attend a Korean church. Within Korean immigrant churches members exchange information and advice while they maintain their cultural traditions and ethnic norms. Recently some 2nd-generation Koreans have gradually started their own Korean congregations, known as English ministries(EMs) while some of them leave their Korean Christian churches. The future of Korean ethnic society in America depends much on the extent of 2nd-generation Koreans' retention of their ethnic culture.

This paper aims at analyzing the role of Korean ethnic network in the settlement process of Korean immigrants, and elucidating their activation strategies. through the case study of Korean Immigrants in London metropolitan area. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the majority of respondents use Korean ethnic networks in the initial immigration process. Secondly, respondents more frequently use Korean ethnic network in the activities such as church, shopping and education. Thirdly, considering the cognition of respondents about the necessity of Korean ethnic networks, respondents prefer supports of Koran government as activation strategies of Korean ethnic network. Finally, a model of activation strategies of Korean ethnic networks is proposed, which is a differentiated and integrated model according to the maturity stage.

This paper aims at analyzing the role of Korean ethnic network in the settlement process of Korean immigrants, and elucidating their utilization measures, through the case Study of Korean Immigrants in LA. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the majority of respondents used Korean ethnic networks and Korean town in the immigration process. According to the results of ANOVA test, Korean ethnic network are more importantly considered by the groups such as elderly, livers in Korean town, and people who the first settlement was LA. Secondly, respondents more frequently use Korean ethnic network in the activities such as church, shopping and business. Especially, the groups such as short immigration term, elderly, poor English ability are more frequently use Korean ethnic network. Thirdly, Viewing the cognition of respondents about the necessity of Korean ethnic networks, respondents want to use them for strengthening the ties of domination society. Finally, utilization of Korean ethnic churches, Korean ethnic business organizations and Korean ethnic web-site portal are proposed for activating Korean ethnic networks.

This study intends to investigate the overall Information activities of Korean ethnic community in Japan. and to discuss about the relevance between such information activities and the Information needs of Korean residents in Japan. To the end, 51 Korean ethnic organizations and media were visited for the investigation of their Information activities. and 767 Korean residents were surveyed and 55 Korean residents were interviewed for the assessment of their information need and behavior. The discussion includes (1) the everyday information need and behavior of Korean residents in Japan, (2) the major information activities of Korean ethnic organizations and media, (3) the relevance of the Koreans' information behavior and the Korean organizations' Information activities, and finally (4) a suggestion on the desirable future directions and roles that the Korean ethnic organizations and media should seek for the overall Korean ethnic community's healthy development.

재미 한인들의 급격한 증가와 더불어 미국 간호학의 한인들에 대한 문화적 지식의 유입을 필요로 하게 하였다. 더구나 기존 연구들은 한인들이 질병을 비효율적이며 부적절하게 관리하는 것으로 보고하고 있어 이에 대한 연구의 필요성이 더욱 증가하였다. 기존 연구에 의하면 초기 이민 경험은 이민자들의 건강과 질병 관리에 크게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구에서는 비평적 문헌 고찰을 통하여 초기 이민 경험이 재미 한인들의 질병관리에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지에 관하여 살펴보고 이에 근거하여 재미 한인들을 위한 적절한 간호의 방향을 제시하고자 했다. 의학도서 목록 전산망과 기타 문헌 자료를 이용하여 1966년부터 1995년까지의 의학, 보건학, 생물학, 심리학, 사회학 문헌들을 살펴보았다. 체계적인 문헌 고찰을 위하여 4개의 세부적인 주제 아래 문헌들을 구분하여 고찰하였다 첫째. 일반적인 이민자들의 초기 이민경험, 건강, 질병 관리가 고찰되었고. 둘째로 재미 한인들의 초기 이민 경험이 고찰되어졌으며, 셋째로, 재미 한인들의 건강. 질병관리가 고찰되어졌고, 마지막으로 이들을 위한 간호의 방향을 제시해 줄 기존의 간호 모델들이 고찰되어졌다. 문헌 고찰 결과, 재미 한인들의 부적절한 질병 관리는 그들의 초기 이민 경험들과 관련되는 것으로 나타났다 첫째 문화적으로 결정되어진 신념이나 태도들이 재미 한인들의 적절한 질병 관리를 방해하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 재미 한인들도 본국인들과 마찬가지로 질병관리를 위해 현대의학. 한방, 무속, 민간요법을 사용하는 것으로 나타났는데. 한방의 사용이나 이러한 치료법들의 흔용은 한인들의 적절한 질병 관리를 방해하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 문화적 차이, 언어장벽, 그리고 비언어적 의사소통의 차이점에서 오는 오해들이 재미 한인들의 질병 관리를 부적절하게 만드는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 이민생활에서 오는 여러 어려움들 또한 재미 한인들의 질병관리를 어렵게 만드는 것으로 나타났으며, 다섯째. 사회적 지지의 부족 역시 재미 한인들의 적절한 질병관리를 힘들게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 적절한 간호 모델의 부재가 이들을 위한 적절한 간호의 제공을 어렵게 하고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이러한 결과에 근거를 두고 초기 이민 적응기에 있는 재미 한인들에게 적절한 간호를 제공하기 위한 몇 가지 제안들이 제시되었다. 첫째, 이민자들에게 적절한 간호가 제공되기 위해서도 문화적 배경을 고려해야 하겠다. 문화적으로 적절한 간호를 위해서 간호 제공자들은 자신들의 문화와 다른 간호 대상자의 문화도 존중해 주어야 하며, 문화적으로 결정되어진 건강 신념들과 질병 관리 행태도 생명을 위협하지 않는 한 존중해 주어야 할 것이다. 또한 간호제공자들은 자문화 중심적인 사고방식에서 벗어나야 하며, 간호 대상자들의 상황을 총괄적으로 이해하여야 하고 이민자들의 어려움에 대해 공감을 가지고 간호를 제공하여야 하겠다. 둘째, 간호 제공자들은 한방에 관한 지식을 가지고 한 의학 혼용으로 인한 위험으로부터 간호 대상자를 보호하여야 할 것이다. 셋째, 문화적 차이나 자민족 중심적 사고방식으로 인한 오해를 막기 위하여 간호 제공자들은 간호 대상자와 자주 상호 교류함으로써 배우는 자세로 간호 대상자를 대하여야 할 것이며, 자신의 자민족 중심적인 사고방식을 인지하고 언어적, 비언어적 의사소통의 문화 집단별 차이를 앎으로써 오해의 소지를 줄여야 할 것이다. 넷째, 적절한 간호의 제공을 위하여 의사소통을 위해 대화만을 직접 번역해 주는 통역자와는 달리 문화적 배경까지도 이해하고 해석해 주는 문화적 통역자의 도움을 밟아야 할 것이다. 다섯째, 한국문화는 가족 중심적 문화이므로 간호 대상자의 혈연관계를 이해하고 그에게 크게 영향을 주는 가족원을 간호 중재에 참여시킴으로써 치료 효과를 높여야 할 것이다. 마지막으로 효과적인 간호를 위하여 재미 한인을 위한 적절한 간호 모델을 개발함으로써 체계적인 간호의 방향을 제시할 수 있어야 할 것이다.

The main purpose of this paper is to analysis the growth process of new emerging Korean society in Georgia, the USA by investigating changes in the regional distribution of Korean business located in metro Atlanta region. More specifically, it aims to identify the characteristics of spatial distribution of Korean business in metro Atalanta through their locational trends since 1980s. To this end, it has explored the history of Korean migration into Georgia and the locational trends of Korean firms in metro Atlanta by industries. As a result, the main location of Korean firms has expanded into the northeastern regions of Atlanta due to the development of transportation, new regional development, education environment and changes in residential distribution by ethnic. Also, the main Korean business has transformed from retails and restaurant to real estate and finance because of changes in market strategies, institutions and Korean local migration.

한인 13가구가 최초로 러시아로 이주한 1863년 이후 그 수는 기하급수적으로 증가하였다. 초기에는 국경지대를 중심으로 한인촌을 형성하였으나 점차 연해주는 물론 동시베리아 지역으로까지 확산되었다. 블라디보스토크에서도 도시의 건설 및 성장과 함께 한인 집단 거주지가 형성되었고, 두 차례 에 걸친 강제 이주와 한 번의 자발적 이주로 위치가 이동하였다. (중략)

This study deals with a research on Korean American economy and Korean banks operated in California where a large percentage of Korean residents in the U.S. is concentrated. Using date published by U.S. Census and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), quantitative analyses have been performed on the asset, employment, market share and other features of selected Korean American financial institutions. Also, each bank's status of financing and asset management are reviewed through the analysis of its balance sheets. The outcome of analysis on the status of Korean American banks are summarized as follows: First, Korean American banks are shown to be growing to become major banks with equivalent scale as mainstream banks. Second, the recently improved fundamentals of Korean American banks are identified. Third, the operational performances of Korean American banks are verified to be similar to the average of Californian banks.

미국은 이제까지 서구 백인문화 중심적으로 간호학을 발전시켜왔다. 그러나 국제적인 세계화 흐름과 함께 이제까지 경시되어 왔던 소수 민족들에게 차츰 관심을 모으고 있다. 이러한 간호학의 추세와 함께 재미 한인들의 증가는 간호학 내의 한인들에 대한 문화적 지식의 확대를 필요로 하게 하였다. 이민이라는 과정을 통해서 이민자들은 새로운 가치관. 태도. 사회적 규범을 획득하게 되는데. 이러한 변화는 신체적. 정신적 건강에 부정적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 또한 이러한 이민 적응과정에서 오는 어려움 들은 이민자 들이 건강관리를 효과적으로 하지 못하게 하는 주원인으로 보고되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 재미 한인들의 건강관리실천을 그들의 초기 이민 과정에서 겪게 되는 여러 경험에 초점을 맞추면서 면담조사와 사례 연구를 통하여 살펴보았다. 임의 표본 추출된 미국 캘리포니아주 오클랜드에 있는 한 한인 교회의 20명의 교민들을 대상으로 그들의 초기 이민경험과 건강관리 실천에 관한 면담 조사가 이루어졌으며 대상자 중 3인을 대상으로 하여 사례 연구가 이루어졌다. 연구 결과, 재미 한인들은 타이민자들에 비해 소규모 사업에 종사하는 경우가 많고 높은 취업 율에 비해 낮은 수인을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 한인들은 타이민자들에 비해 좀 더 보수적이며 그들의 문화와 관습을 가능한 한 고수하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 한인들은 사회 참여와 대인 관계에 있어서 한인 사회에만 한정되게 활동하는 것으로 나타났다. 재미 한인들은 한인 사회 내에서 강력한 사회적 유대관계를 유지하는 것으로 나타났으며, 가족의 영향력이 타민족들에 비하여 강한 것으로 나타났다 언어 장벽이 가장 큰 문제로 보고되고 있으며 비록 성공적으로 미국 사회에 적응을 하더라도 계속적인 경제적인 생존 노력과 사회적으로 소외된 그들의 위치는 그들의 삶을 계속해서 어렵게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 초기 이민 적응과정에서 오는 어려움 들은 그들의 건강을 비효과적으로 관리하게 만드는 것으로 나타났다. 첫째, 적절한 통역자를 사전에 선정, 이용함으로써 적절한 간호를 제공할 수 있도록 하여야겠다. 둘째. 한인을 대하는 간호 제공자들은 한인에 대한 문화적 지식을 겸비하고 그 지식에 근거를 둔 문화적으로 적절한 간호를 제공하여야 할 것이다. 셋째, 간호 제공자들은 한인들의 치료법 혼용을 이해하고 동시에 여러 치료법을 사용하는 경우. 잘 살펴서 적절한 조치를 취해야 할 것이다. 넷째, 가족관계를 사정하고 적절히 가족 구성원을 간소 목적을 위하여 사용할 수 있어야 하겠다 마지막으로 이들 내의 위험 집단을 우선적으로 파악. 접근하여야 할 것이다. 위험 집단으로는 경제적 문제로 적절한 의료 이용을 할 수 없는 저소득층, 문화적으로 열등한 위치에 있는 여성층과 초기 이민 적응에 가장 문제를 일으킬 소지가 있는 노년층을 들 수 있겠다. 이 연구는 몇 가지 제한점을 가진다. 첫째. 연구 대상자 선정이 어려워서 자원자를 대상으로 연구가 행해졌다. 둘째. 적은 수의 연구 대상자를 대상으로 연구가 행해졌다. 셋째. 연구기간이 짧았던 까닭에 좀더 상세한 사례 연구가 이루어질 수 없었다 좀 더 신뢰할 수 있는 표본 추출 방법을 통하여 선정된, 많은 연구 대상자를 가지고, 심도 있는 연구가 추후 반복적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.

This paper suggests a way to improve Korean diaspora-related subject headings based on the analysis of terminology about Koreans in Korean diaspora-related manuscripts and investigation of related terms in the National Library of Korea subject headings. After selecting three KCI journals with high ratios of diaspora-related papers, the study extracted Korean-related terminology from the journal papers and examined their term frequencies. Additional Korean-related terms were investigated by manually reviewing the articles in which extracted terms appear. Based on these analyses, the study proposes several supplemental enhancements to Korean-related topic names in the National Library of Korea's subject headings, such as changing the English notation, adding non-preferred words, and changing the hierarchical relationship of the existing topic names.
