  • Our study aimed to analyze and reinterpret, by an acoustic approach, the descriptions of the 18th century prosody and introduce the figurative pronunciation system, which is the International Phonetic Alphabet pioneer. Our methodology compares and analyzes grammars and documents on the transcription system and restructures the prosodic structure. It is certain that the 18th century grammarians widely accepted the prosody theories made by Arnauld & Lancelot of the seventeenth century. In particular, grammar scholars accepted the dichotomous classification of the accent structures as prosodic and oratorical accents. The prosodic accent has a relation to intonation, and the oratorical accent has as its key elements intonation and intensity. Regarding the temporal structure, the lengthening of the final syllable was observed systematically by grammarians of the 18th century. This time structure is similar to that of today. Therefore, we can conclude that the final elongation, an essential characteristic of the modern French accent, has already played an imbued role in 18th century prosody. Despite this, the 18th century grammarians did not assign it the status of accent, as it was a stereotype that matches accent with intonation.

  • Recently, IoT-linked services have been used in various environments, and IoT and artificial intelligence technologies are being fused. However, since technologies that process IoT data stably are not fully supported, research is needed for this. In this paper, we propose a processing technique that can optimize IoT data after generating embedded vectors based on machine learning for IoT data. In the proposed technique, for processing efficiency, embedded vectorization is performed based on QR such as index of IoT data, collection location (binary values of X and Y axis coordinates), group index, type, and type. In addition, data generated by various IoT devices are integrated and managed so that load balancing can be performed in the IoT data collection process to asymmetrically link IoT data. The proposed technique processes IoT data to be orthogonalized based on hash so that IoT data can be asymmetrically grouped. In addition, interference between IoT data may be minimized because it is periodically generated and grouped according to IoT data types and characteristics. Future research plans to compare and evaluate proposed techniques in various environments that provide IoT services.

  • Objectives: Recent epidemiological data reported that young adults in their 20 ~ 30s are a vulnerable population with unhealthy dietary practices and a few signs of deteriorated health indicators. However, there are no dietary guidelines that are specifically developed for the young adult population. This study introduces some data collection tools that are mostly used in the service design field, and demonstrates how these tools can be used in nutrition research for developing dietary guidelines for specific target groups. Methods: To understand the context of food choices among young people, 39 people were enrolled to complete a probes booklet. Thematic analysis and word cloud were performed to capture the main themes from the probes and a persona was developed based on the findings. Results: Data from the probes enabled us to grasp the various contextual meanings of eating practices among young people. Most participants understand what a healthy diet is and often have a willingness to practice it. However, there were very few participants who were following the practices. We created four types of persona for developing dietary guidelines: healthy eating, emotional eating, convenient eating, and trendy eating. Conclusions: Probes and persona were used in order to understand the lives of young adults and develop targeted messages. We hope that this introduction will be helpful to researchers who are looking for new ways of understanding their target population in the field of community nutrition.

  • Strain gauges and the bridge weigh-in-motion (BWIM) method are the representative field measurement methods used for fatigue evaluationsof a steel bridge-in-service. For a fatigue reliability evaluation to assess fatigue damage accumulation, the effective stress range and the number of stress cycles applied as the fatigue details can be estimated based on the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluations with the field measurement data of the target bridge. However, the procedure for estimating the effective stress range and the stress cycles from field measurement data has not been explicitly presented. Furthermore, studies that quantitatively compare differences in fatigue evaluation results according to the field measurement data type or processing method used are still insufficient. Here, a fatigue reliability evaluation is conducted using strain and BWIM data that are measured simultaneously. A frame model and a shell-solid model were generated to examine the effect of the accuracy of the structural analysis model when using BWIM data. Also, two methods of handling BWIM data when estimating the effective stress range and average daily cycles are defined. As a result, differences in evaluation results according to the type of field measurement data used, the accuracy of the structural analysis model, and the data handling method could be quantitatively confirmed.

  • Over the past 20 years, Korea's number of international passengers and freight transportation records has increased by 8.6% per year, respectively. However, despite the development of sea lanes and increased voyages, there have been constant calls for improving the inefficient management of international passenger ports. Hence, this paper presents improvements and further directions for international passenger port management. Focusing on the Incheon International passenger port as a representative case study, the main results show that the most important, urgent, possible measures for improving the port management include (i) the expansion of customs personnel and implementation of a 24-hours customs clearance system in operation, (ii) installation of buffer facilities between the ferry and ferry cargo and establishment of hinterland specialized in car ferry freight in a facility, and (iii) clear standards for cost-bearing subjects and limitation of high cost related to terminal use in institution. These results imply the need for government policy access and investment reflecting stakeholder opinions at various levels, such as operation, facilities, institution, and so forth, for efficient management of international passenger ports.

  • College students face serious difficulties while seeking jobs, leading to a high degree of stress, which is thought to affect their attitude towards smoking. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between hardiness, job-seeking stress, and the attitude towards smoking among students, and to further identify the factors influencing smoking attitude. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to 145 students. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS program, t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Smokers constituted 22.1% of the sample. The study showed that smoking attitudes varied according to the smoking status (H=28.26, p<.001). The smoking attitude was seen to be desirable in the high group (t=-3.27, p=.001) and low job-seeking stress group (t=4.40, p<.001). There was a positive correlation between hardiness and smoking attitude (r=.18, p=.028). There was a negative correlation between job-seeking stress and smoking attitude (r=-.28, p=.001). Also, the factors affecting the smoking attitude were non-smoker respondent (β=.50, p<.001), job-seeking stress (β=-.23, p=.015), former smoker respondent (β=.22, p=.016) and the explanatory power was 24.3%. Therefore, school and health public center counseling and employment support programs need to help students manage and cope with stressful situations to change their attitude towards smoking in a desirable direction.

  • With the enactment and enforcement of the 「Public Records and Archives Act」, the Tottori Prefectural Archives newly enacted the "Records Management Ordinance" through a comprehensive review of the previous archive function. In accordance with this ordinance, which came into effect in April 2012, Tottori Prefecture expanded the records management institutions (Public Security Committee and Police Headquarters, etc.) A series of archive systems were improved, such as the expansion and reinforcement of the authority to appraisal and select. In addition, the Tottori Prefectural Archives went further and implemented the "Ordinance on the Preservation of Historical Documents, etc." from April 2017. Through this, the municipalities unit basic local government's record management support work was set as a unique function of the local archive, and a linkage and cooperation system was established for the preservation of private records of the prefecture area as well as the basic local area together with cultural heritage institutions such as museums and libraries. As a reference case that continuously guarantees the performance of various activities based on the mission and vision of the local archives in Korea that aim for 'autonomy of records' on the poor archival culture soil, it is worth paying attention to the case of continuous record management reform of the Tottori Prefectural Archives through the enactment of the original role and function of the archive.

  • This paper analyzes the factors which affect University professors and students on their startup activities, such as (a) University factors: their industrial cooperation organization and systems, their resources for startup support, their knowledge assets, and (b) socioeconomic characteristics in which Universities are located. We used the data and information from the University Information System and the National Statistical Office Publication to analyze 157 4-year Universities in Korea who uploaded their startup-related information on the system. Our analysis shows that Universities' systems, such as the term for Professors' leave of absence for startup activities, and their amount of knowledge assets affect the number of Professor startups significantly positively, while there is no significant effect on their performance, in terms of sales, from those factors, except for the amount of patents that the University has. In the meantime, the number of practical startup courses, the number of startup clubs, and the number of professor startups in the University affect the number of student startups, while the size of industrial cooperation body, the amount of knowledge asset, the area's socioeconomic characteristics didn't affect their performance. The result implies that we need to take different approaches to boost University professor startups and their student startups: better system and more knowledge for the former, more practical courses and programs for the latter. Further study is needed to get a more robust result because this analysis used only one year data, and personal trait data was not included in the analysis. A panel data analysis for several years is recommended for further research.
