An Analysis of Application of Mathematical History into Elementary Mathematics Education (초등수학 교육과정에서 수학사 관련 내용 분석 및 그 적용)

  • The aims of the study were to analyze the contents of elementary mathematics curriculum in order to help students to have ideas about the history of mathematics and to apply the ideas to develop their knowledge of mathematicians or mathematical history into the lesson ideas for preservice elementary teachers and elementary students. As a result, many ideas of mathematical connection into the history of mathematics are reviewed, and posters about Pythagoras and Pascal are designed to help students to reinvent the idea of triangular numbers and square numbers.

  • 수학사는 수학적 사실이나 수학자에 대한 연대기적 나열만을 의미하는 것은 아니다. 수학사에서는 수학적 개념들, 정리들, 연구 방법의 발생, 축적, 그리고 발전에 대한 폭넓은 견해를 접할 수 있다. 특히, 수학사에서 접할 수 있는 수학 문제해결의 다양한 방법은 수학 교수-학습 과정에서 교사의 올바른 교수학적 선택을 위한 중요한 기초 자료가 될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 그리스의 수학자 아르키메데스가 구의 부피를 구하기 위해 사용했던 공학적 문제해결 방법을 살펴보고, 공학적 방법의 활용에 관련된 수학적 기초를 살펴보고, 공학적 문제해결 방법을 중등학교 수학 영재교육에 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 모색할 것이다.

  • In this paper, we study the major mathematical history appeared in the elementary school mathematics textbooks. School mathematical history described in the texts reflects the axial age, and deals with mathematical transculture from the ancient Greek into Europe without the Islamic mathematics. We discuss about them through out the elementary school textbooks and give some directions for the problems.

  • This study shows how to use effectively construction and solution of the quadratic equation developed by mathematicians such as Gyung Sun-jing, Hong Jung-ha, Hong Dae-yong, Lee Sang-hyuk, and Nam Byung-gil through mathematics history of Chosun Dynasty. Mathematics history of Chosun Dynasty can be used in order to enhance comprehension and increase interest in an introduction to the quadratic equation. It also can be used to help motivate middle school students to solve the quadratic equation with much interest during the development phase, and develope conceptual thinking and reflective thinking in the practical phase.

Most of all it deals with the controversy concerning so-called 'geometrical algebra'. It covers the contents of Euclid' work II. And the relation of the controversy with the change of direction over historical research of mathematics is examined.
