  • Nine species of Curculionidae, Pimelocerus elongates (Roelofs, 1873), Phylaitis maculiventris Voss, 1958, Egiona picta (Roelofs, 1875), Cryptorhynchus electus (Roelofs, 1875), Rhadinopus confinis Voss, 1958, R. sulcatostriatus (Roelofs, 1875), 1962, Deiradocranus setosus (Morimoto, 1962), Rhadinomerus annulipes (Roelofs, 1875), and R. maebarai Chujo et Voss, 1960 are recorded for the first time in Korea. And the distribution of the species of Shirahoshizo hiurai Morimoto to Korea which its distribution was unclear is confirmed with this report. Habitus photos and descriptions of the species are given.

  • Description and identifications of 6 species belonging to genus Phintella from Korea are in insufficient and inaccurate situation. In the present paper, redescriptions illustrations and identification key are provided for 7 species of genus Phintella including P. popovi newly recorded in Korean spider fauna, and Ocius munitus described by Wesolowska (1981s) was synonymized to P.cavaleriei. For the author's identiication and pairing to be valid multivariate analysis was performed with 13 RVCs below STD 0.05 to 134 individuals. The result of discriminant analysis carried out with 13 RVCs of 134 individuals was not satisfactory, but cluster analysis performed with mean ratio values of 14 OTUs to 13 RVCs showed the same result with author's pairing except P.abnormis , which has larger dissimilarity than the pairs of the others. So pairing of 7 species was possible as a whole because one species only failed in pairing , even though this is imperful result. This method to be helpful to pairing test and identification if it were to improve.

  • Taxonomic revision of the family Engraulidae was conducted based on the specimens collected from the coasts of Korean Peninsula from 1990 to 1995. Seven species representing four genera are reviewed, and provisional keys to the species and genera are provided with synonyms and their distributions. Thryssa adelae (Rutter, 1897) newly reported from Korea is redescribed in this paper. Thryssa kammalensis (Bleeker, 1849) is a synonym of Thryssa koreana or Thryssa chefuensis. Setipinna tenuifilis (Valenciennes, 1848) is proposed as a replacement name for Setipinna taty, Thryssa adelae (Rutter, 1897) for Thryssa mystax and Thryssa purava, Coilia nasus Schlegel 1846 for Coilia ectenes. Most species of clupeoid fishes in Korea are shared with Chinese and Japanese faunas including tropical and temperature species without endemics.

  • The study has been carried to describe a new disease of strawberry in Korea, which was found in 1977 at Kimhae. Symptom of the disease occurred mainly on leaves as showing large annular brown spots or 'V' shaped brown lesions. Many of dark pycnidia were observed from the both side of old lesions. The pathogen was identified as Dendrophoma obscurans (Ell. & Ev) Anderson which has not been described in Korea as a pathogen of strawberry disease. The common name of the disease was given, temporaly, as Annular leaf blight of strawberry. In the laboratory study, light was necessary for the production of pycnidia and potato dextrose agar was the best media for tile pycnidia formation. There were some difference on resistance to the disease among 48 tested strawberry varieties though none of them shelved highly resistant reaction, and the older leaves showed more susceptible reaction than younger ones.

  • Morphological and molecular information about two microfilamentous endophytic algae of the Grateloupia lanceolata or Bryopsis sp. from Korea is given. Of two endophytes, Phaeophila dendroides is endophytic in Grateloupia lanceolata. It is green in color and composed of uniseriate branched filaments with long setae. Each cell had several pyrenoids. Undulate or twisted Phaeophila-type hair developed from vegetative cells. Dilabifilum arthropyreniae is endophytic in Bryopsis sp. The frond of this species consists of frequently irregular, branching uniseriate filaments. Each cell had a single pyrenoid without hairs. Sporangia were not observed. The ends of the filaments were curved. In the phylogenetic tree, based on tufA and ITS sequences, these two species are nested in the same clade as Phaeophila dendroides and Dilabifilum arthropyreniae, respectively. In this study, these two species are newly recorded in the Korean marine algal flora, based on the morphological and molecular data.

  • Taxonomic account is given to the five species of Scytosiphonaceae, Colpomenia peregrina (Sauvageau) Hamel, Endarachne binghamiae J. Agardh, Hydroclathrus clathratus (C. Agardh) Howe, Petalonia fascia (O. F. Muller) Kuntze, and Scytosiphon lomentaria (Lyngbye) Link, collected from Ullungdo Island, Korea. C. peregrina, introduced for the first time in Korea, is similar to C. sinuosa (Roth) Derbes et SolieI in outer appearance but is distinguished by absence of cuticle over the plurilocular sporangial sori. E. binghamiae accords well with American plants but varies in height and width of the thallus according to seasons. H. clathratus has small cortical cells and large clear medullary cells. P fascia is characterized by one to two celled small cortical layer and two to four celled large medullary layer. S. lomentaria shows variation in gross morphology, especially in height and width of thallus according to seasons.easons.

  • Endophytic fungi were isolated from surface-sterilized roots of a species of orchid, Oreorchis patens, in Korea. The isolated strains were identified based on morphological characteristics and sequence analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (LSU) of rDNA regions. Two species, Thelonectria veuillotiana and Phialocephala humicola, are first reported in Korea with their descriptions.

  • Smithistruma japonica(lto) unrecorded species of Dacetini tribe in Korea was found in Is. Kekumdo, Chonnam Province and named Saw teeth scale ant. The form-characteristics difference between Smithistruma japonica(Ito) and Strumigenys lewisi Cameron was discribed with the result of observation by the scanning electron microscope(SEM). Total species of Dacetini tribe in Korean contained two species in two genus.

  • Many myxomycetes were collected at Pyunsan penisula national park, Mt.Moak, Mt.Minjuji, Mt.Manrae, Wanju, Mt.Unjang from July, 1996 to August, 2000. They were identified. According to the results, Amaurochaete tubulina, Cribraria microcarpa, Cribraria splendens, Diachea leucopodia, Entreridium lycoperdon, Stemonitis flavogenita and Stemonitis fusca were unrecorded species in Korea. Characterisctics of them were habitated on rotten wood and fallen leaves. They were designed Korean common names by author.
