A Study on the Utilization of the Grey Literature in Digital Age (디지털 시대의 회색문헌 이용 활성화에 관한 연구)

  • Despite of the importances, grey literatures are often overlooked as a resource in libraries because they have always had the reputation of being obscure and difficult to locate. Thus, an information system and network for the management of grey literature is essential to the improvement of Korean R&D in science and technology. The Results of the research are as follow : - Declare the clear definitions and types of grey literatures - Suggest the utilizing methods of grey literatures - Identify the major functions or requirements of National Information Center on Grey Literature.

An Analysis on Factors of Information Technology Acceptance of LIS Undergraduate Students (문헌정보학 전공자의 정보기술 수용요인에 관한 분석적 연구)

  • This study aims to examine how LIS curriculum affects the undergraduate students' intention to information technology acceptance using Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). For this purpose, it was analyzed differences in factors of information technology acceptance (1) between LIS students and non-LIS students and (2) between LIS junior students and LIS senior students in heterogeneous information technology environments. The results are as follows; There is difference in IT acceptance factor(Subjective Norm variables) between LIS students and non-LIS students. There was no great difference in factors on information technology acceptance between LIS junior students and non-LIS students. LIS senior students show great difference in path coefficient with LIS junior students.

An Analysis of Research Trends on Theory Use in Korean Library and Information Science: Focusing on Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science from 2010 through 2014 (국내 문헌정보학의 이론 활용 연구 동향 분석 - 2010년-2014년 『한국문헌정보학회지』를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine research trends on theory use in Korean LIS, and ultimately to identify its academic growth and change. This study conducted content analysis, with a sample of 344 articles in Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science during the past five years from 2010 to 2014. Then longitudinal analysis was additionally carried out by comparing with a data set from 1984 to 2003. Findings are as follows. 13.7% of research articles used theories on average 2.02 times. The most theories were deployed at the level of Spot Citing and the next most theories were at the level of Theory Application. Research on the subject of education and information use/seeking used theories most frequently. Theories from LIS were 31.9% and those from social science were 58.3% of all. Also, longitudinal analysis results support the conclusion that there was no quantitative increase but was clear qualitative growth in theoretical research of LIS. And the current theoretical framework of LIS research has closer relationships with pedagogy and psychology among social science disciplines than in the past.

Analysis of 'Digital Divide' Research Trends in Library and Information Science (문헌정보학 분야 정보격차 연구동향 분석)

  • This study aimed to analyze research trends of 'digital divide' in Library and Information Science. To this end, we coded research subjects with 11 subcategories, and research objectives with 4 subcategories, and research methods with 4 subcategories, and constructed keyword networks to which a pathfinder algorithm was applied. As a result of the analysis, 79.5% of studies are on the disabled, multicultural families, and the elderly among information vulnerable groups, and it was found to be concentrated in specific groups. In addition, digital divide related studies have been actively conducted for the purpose of resolving information vulnerabilities such as people with disabilities. We also found that these studies focused on verifying the effectiveness by designing and applying treatments such as informatization education, information utilization, and reading programs. Lastly, the most frequently used research method in the digital divide was found to use case studies or questionnaires simultaneously with literature research.

  • 최근 인용 네트워크 분석을 통해서 단일 문헌의 인용 영향력을 측정하려는 시도가 다양하게 전개되고 있다. 널리 알려진 PageRank를 보완하려는 일부 시도와 함께 h-index를 단일 문헌의 인용 영향력 측정에 적용한 단일문헌 h-index도 제안되었다. 이 연구에서는 Web of Science에서 검색한 계량정보학 분야 문헌집합을 대상으로 여러 측정 방식의 특징을 비교해본 후, 새로운 인용지수 2종을 제안하였다. 제안한 인용지수는 PageRank처럼 전역 네트워크 분석 방식인 지수 1종과 h-index처럼 지역 네트워크 분석 방식인 지수 1종으로서 상황에 따라 선택하여 사용할 수 있다.

Recent trends of Library and Information Studies in the United Kingdom (영국 문헌정보학계의 발전방향)

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce current trends of library and information science in UK universities, based on their history, developments, curriculum changes and new information market. Since 1980 there were fundamental changes, both in departmental structure and recruitment. The impact of the evolving information markets has meant an introduction of new way of thinking and new methods into the traditional subjects of librarianship and information studies. The review on this topic has found trends in library and information studies departments as follows. - Name changed : many of the changes have been made for pragmatic and financial reasons with professional development. - Restructuring and reorganisation : there were a general move away from a traditional small subject-based departments to broadly based information studies structures. - Mergers with other academic departments: department of library and information studies tended to be put with other technology-based subjects. - Emphasis on information technology based teaching and learning.

A Study on the Curricular Model Development for Information User Instruction in Korean Library and Information Science Education (한국문헌정보학 교육에서 정보이용자교육 교과과정 모형개발 연구)

  • Recently, countries have recognized the significant to instruct the information literacy to library users so that they can positively and actively use the information. However, among the courses of library and information science in the colleges of South Korea which educate the potential librarians, few courses have the objectives to make the students obtain the abilities to teach the information literacy in the future. Since this lack of appropriate educations is reflected on the fields of library, the librarians have many difficulties in preparing for and performing user instructions. As an alternative solution for this problem, this study suggests opening a course, information user instructions, in the curriculum of library and information science of the colleges in South Korea and concretely demonstrated the curricular model. Also the course syllabus displays when this course would open.

The Discourse for Academic Generation of 'School library Education Science' (문헌정보교육학의 학문적 생성 담론)

  • This study presents the discourse for academic generation of 'School Library Education Science' based on integrative research between library & information science and education science. The study discusses research fields and themes of 'School Library Education Science' as the base to define the roles of the school library and of teacher-librarians. It contributes to upgrading the research level of the school library. The research field in the school library analyzes and integrates both aspects of library & information science and of education science. The developed theories of 'School Library Education Science' present Library-Based Education and Library-Based Learning, Base Connectionism, Base Integrationism, Top456 Approach, Curriculum-Based Approach, Viewpoint Approach, and Education of Information and the Library as a Subject Matter. The trends in research of the school library analyze the thesis numbers of academic journals. The future research challenges of 'School Library Education Science' discuss the educational basics of the school library, operational management, electronic school libraries, and educational activities. Conclusively, this study analyzes the current situation of the school library & of teacher-librarians in Korea, and provides its solution by the aspects of 'School Library Education Science'.

  • The Libraries are face to difficult of academic journal subscription for the increasing price of journal and the increasing number of journal. Bibliographic citation analysis is one of method of evaluating the use of a journal collection. This study is used bibliographic use and scatting of foreign academic journal in Library and Information Science found in doctorial dissertation of graduate students in Seoul city, for serve to complement another method of journal evaluation. Journal selection and cancellation may be done on the basis to dispersion of journal citation to usefulness of journal subscription in the library budget. But the library should not rely on one single evaluation technique, it should take advantage of combination technique.
