  • The extracts from stem and fruit of Cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten Makino) were applied to confirm the antiatherosclerotic effects in subacute alcoholic hyperlipidemic rats. It was observed that several indications of hyperlipidemia were prevented or changed by the treatments of the extracts but activities of hepatic HMG-CoA reductase and alcohol dehydrogenase were not affected, which suggest that the extracts may promote the fecal excretion and delay the absorption of alcohol in hyperlipidemic rats.

  • Prickly pear(Opuntia ficus-indica var saboten Makino, Cactaceae) is widely used as folk medicine for burned wound, edema and indigestion. To confirm the hypolipidemic action of the extract from Cactus stem and fruit in dietary hyperlipidemic rats, variations of the lipid- or cholesterol-related components were investigated. As results these changes were significantly prevented by treatments with Cactus extracts. The effects of the extract of fruit was better than those of stem.

  • Anti-hyperlipidemic effect of Sophorae Fructus in male Spague-Dawley rats induced by high-rich diet were studied. Oral administration of Sophorae Fructus extract significantly decreased serum total cholesterol (TC), LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), GOT and GPT levels, and incresed serum HDL-cholesterol level and also decreased the level of liver TC, TG, GOT and GPT. These results suggest that Sophorae Fructus extract is effective for the hyperlipidemia.

  • In an attempt to find the activity of Aster glehni (Compositae) leaves on the obesity in vivo, 30% ethanolic extract rich in caffeoylquinic acids was orally treated with 100 and 200 mg/kg for consecutive four weeks during feeding high-fat diet in rats for 6 weeks. This extract prevented the increase of atherogenic index and body weight and oxidative stress from dietinduced obese rats probably due to the pharmacological mechanism of the CQ complex.

  • The effects of polyelectrolytes and enzyme, alone and in combination, were investigated in OCC recycling system. Four types of the polyelectrolytes based on acrylamide, cationic and anionic monomers were applied to the enzyme-treated KOCC stock to improve the strength and drainage properties of testliner. The polyelectrolytes used in this work were designed in terms of molecular weight and charge density. The water conditions used for recycling were also varied. The results showed that the hydrolytic action of enzyme gave reduced surface area and amorphous region of fiber, and as a result, the cationic polymer was lost apparently its flocculating power due to the reduced bonding site of fiber surface. When the hardness and conductivity of water had been controlled to the conditins of OCC paper mill, the application of amphoteric polyelectrolyte to the enzyme-treated recycled stock was the most effective with respect to the strength and drainage properties of testliner.

Study on the Improvement of Paper Sludge Dewatering by Adding Wastepaper Powders (고지 분말 첨가에 따른 제지 슬러지의 탈수성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Three types of sludges including printing paper, newsprint and tissue paper were prepared at 5% concentration for filtration-expression operations. Filtration-expression characteristics of sludge were measured in different pressure and wastepaper powder dosage. Specific filtration resistance and porosity were calculated with theoretical formula. Higher pressure increased the progresses of filtration and expression while it decreased porosity. The addition of 5% wastepaper powder more accelerated the progresses of filtration and expression than that of 10% wastepaper powder. The lowest porosity value was also measured at 5% dosage of wastepaper powder. The decrease of porosity implied the decrease of moisture content in cake. The results indicated that dewatering of sludge was efficient in high pressure and 5% dosage of wastepaper powder.

  • 최근 개인정보 유 노출 사건이 급격히 증가하면서, 개인정보를 수집 이용하는 기업들의 개인정보 유 노출에 대한 대응 행태에 큰 관심이 모아지고 있다. 정보통신 기술이 급속히 발달함에 따라, 유 노출된 개인정보가 야기할 수 있는 피해의 정도가 점점 커지고 있지만, 정작 해당 기업들은 회사 이미지나 경제적인 이유 등으로 대응에 소극적이기 때문이다. 실제로 최근 많은 사업자들의 개인정보가 해킹으로 100만건 이상 유출된 바 있지만, 이들 사업자 중 유출 사실을 고객에게 통지한 기업은 전무하였다. 금년 8월, 방송통신위원회는 이러한 세계적 트랜드에 발 맞추어 개정 정보통신망법(안)에 개인정보 노출사고 발생 시 정보통신서비스 제공자가 노출된 정보, 노출시점 및 대처방법 등을 이용자에게 통지하고 방송통신위원회에 신고하도록 의무화하는 내용을 추가하였다. 이미 미국은 거의 모든 주(州)가 이러한 유 노출이 발생하였을 경우, 이를 고지하도록 하는 법안을 마련하였으며, 영국, 캐나다, 호주 등도 관련 지침을 마련하여 운영 중에 있다. 본 고에서는 개인정보 유 노출과 관련한 국내외 관련 법제 현황에 대해 살펴본다.

키틴/키토산의 생체활성과 기능성 식품으로서의 이용

  • 키틴/키토산은 지질흡수의 억제, 혈중 콜레스테롤의 저하, 항고혈압활성, 면역활성, 항종양/항암활성 등 다양한 생체기능성을 나타내어 건강지향적인 기능성 식품으로서의 이용가치가 매우 큰것으로 평가되고 있다. 키토산은 성인남자의 혈중 콜레스테롤을 감소시키고 HDL cholesterol은 증가시켜 동맥경화지수를 낮추며 비만환자에게 투여시 체중, 중성지질, LDL cholesterol을 유의하게 낮춤으로서 고지혈증과 비만증의 개선에 유용한 것으로 평가된다. 키토산은 또한 성인의 고염식에 의한 혈압상승을 억제하며 3량체 내외의 키틴/키토산 올리고당은 혈압상승의 중요인자인 angiotensin converting enzyme과 직접 반응하여 활성을 현저히 저하시키고 SHR에서의 혈압을 유의하게 억제하는 특성을 보여 고혈압의 억제 및 치료에도 응용가치가 클 것으로 생각된다. 키틴/키토산 및 그 올리고당은 sarcoma 180, Meth-A solid tumor의 성장을 저해하고 L1210와 같은 negative charge를 갖는 malignant cell을 흡착시키는 등 항종양/항암활성을 보이는데 이는 tumoricidal immunocite의 활성화에 의한 것으로 추정되고 있다. 키틴/키토산의 생체활성은 분자크기, 탈아세틸화도, 유도체의 종류 및 적용방법 등에 따라 차이를 보이기 때문에 키틴/키토산을 기능성 식품으로서 폭넓게 이용하게 위해서는 용도에 맞는 적절한 규격 설정이 요구되고 있다.

Effects of Dietary Soy Protein and Calcium on Blood and Tissue Lipids in Rats Fed Fat-Enriched Diet (고지방식을 섭취한 흰쥐의 체내 지질 함량에 대한 대두 단백질과 칼슘의 섭취 효과)

  • This study was carried out to examine how dietary protein and calcium levels in rats fed fat-enriched diet affect the total lipid and cholesterol contents of blood and tissues. Male Sprauge-Dawley rats weighing approximately 200g were fed six purified diets which contained 18%(w/w) beef tallow, 1% (w/w) cholesterol, two source of protein, casein or isolated soy protein (ISP) and three levels of dietary calcium, 0.1%, 0.4% and 1.0%, first, for four weeks, and second, for eight weeks. The contents of the total lipid, cholesterol and triglyceride in blood, liver, heart and feces were determined. After four weeks feeding serum lipid and cholesterol concentrations significantly decreased in rats fed 1.0% (w/w) level calcium, regardless of dietrary protein sources. After eight weeks, these concentrations were significantly lower in the rats fed soy protein than in casein-fed rats. As dietary calcium level increased serum and tissue lipid and cholesterol contents were decreased and fecal lipid excretion increased. It is concluded that hypolipidemic and/or hypocholesterolemic effects of soy protein and calcium were partly due to decrease in lipid absorption.

Effect of Lxeris Sonchifolia H. on Serum Lipid Metabolism in Hyperlipidemic Rats (고들빼기의 급여가 고지혈증 흰쥐의 지질대사에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of lxeris sonchifolia H.(godulbaegi) on lipid metabolism were studied in S. D. rats. Twenty four rats were divided into four groups and fed diets containing 1 % cholesterol, 0.25% sodium cholate, 10% coconut oil and 5% lard(control group)f for 3 weeks. An experimental diet group was added with 5% leaf(PL group) or root powder(PR group) of godulbaegi. The lipid components and enzyme activites of serum and liver were assayed. The concentrations of total cholesterol, triglyceride and phospholipid were significantly lower in the PL and PR groups than in the control group. The levels of HDL-cholesterol were not significant but showed somewhat higher values in the PL and PR groups compaired with the control. The activities of glutamic oxaloacetic transminase(GPT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) were significantly lower in the PL and PR groups compaired with the control. In view of these results Godulbaegi is expected to be an effective food in preventing and improving the hyperlipidemic state.
