  • In this paper we propose contents and results on installation and commissioning test for ATP on-board unit, which has propelled as one of the research projects, so called, "Reliability assessment and operation technology development for Korean-type tilting trains" in order to ensure the safety and operation efficiency of tilting trains. In KRRI, we have developed tilting trains for the speed-up of existing lines and for the passenger service improvement where the KTX is not available. And we also make progress the operation trial test at the speed of 10km with the use of ATS units, used in existing lines, for the purpose of the reliability assessment of the developed tilting trains. In MLTM, they have decided to accelerate the speed at more than 200km/h for the 7 existing lines including Jungang-line and Chungbuk-line where KTX has not operated. According to this decision, Train control system is to be changed from ATS to ATP. We should install an ATP on-board unit in tilting trains and verify the operational suitability. Therefore, we have installed and tested the same ATP on-board unit on tilting trains that used in the ATP construction project on Gyeongbu-line and Honam-line.

  • The ride comfort is more important in the train speedup. Generally, it is defined as the vehicle vibration. There are many studies on evaluation method of ride comfort for railway. But the ride comfort for Korean high speed train(HSR 350x) has been assessed by statistical method according to UIC 513R. It is impossible for HSR 350x to run at constant speeds above 310km/h during 5 minutes required in UIC 513R because of the same operational condition as KTX and the design limitation of infrastructures. The ride indices data had been acquired from 80 to 310km/h through the on-line test. The present study has suggested the methodology for the estimation of the ride indices at high speed above 310km/h by using those obtained below 310km/h and reviewed the ride comfort for HSR 350x in these speeds.

  • Studied was a strategic plan for the Korean High-Speed Train system to penetrate the Chinese railway market in exchange of the technology of KHST. Firstly, taken was a glance at Chinese Government plans to extend total length of his railway lines and to construct the Beijing~Shanghai high-speed railway line. Then, disparity of railway technology in Korea and China was reviewed. From the review, SWOT Analysis were carried out to penetrate the foreign markets. Countermeasures to cope with SWOT were also considered. Strategical governmental supports and the establishment of the special organization to be in charge of penetration of KHST into foreign markets were proposed. Finally, also proposed was the transfer of KHST technology to Chinese counterparts in exchange of tangible benefits for Korean side. The benefits may include (1) adoption of KHST as the type of rolling stock for the Beijing~Shanghai line, (2) guarantee of participation in the project and royalty for the KHST technology used for the future high-speed railway line construction, (3) prior written approval and partnership when making its way to third country, and (4) participation of Korean construction companies in Chinese railway construction project, etc. Adoption of KHST in China indeed gives chance to integrate the high-speed railway network after reunification of Korean peninsular, and enhance the economic ties between two countries.

  • In this paper, to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, auxiliary power is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The auxiliary power system is classified into subsystems and functional analysis is conducted. Reliability block diagrams are drawn. and reliability parametric analysis is performed. Analysis results show that the reliability of auxiliary power system depends on critical items. To grow the system reliability, activities have been concentrated on improvement of critical items and the results were successful.

  • The railway electromagnetic environment is much more severe than that found in commercial and domestic environments. However. in many instances the railway runs very close to such environments. In this paper we measure the harmonic and the strength of electromagnetic fields for Korean High Speed Train and compare that with the past result and evaluate the result according to domestic and international guideline.

  • The Korean high speed train(KHST), developed since 1996, is presently undergoing commissioning tests on the high-speed track as well as on the conventional track since 2002. The purpose of the commissioning test is twofold: first to verify the performance of the train-set and equipments, and to demonstrate system reliability. Last December, KHST has reached the maximum speed of 350km/h and a number of data proving the performance of the train has been acquired. Among the data noise level and pressure variation in a cabin are important factors effecting passenger's comfort. Discussed in this paper are interior noise and pressure variation when the train passes tunnels during the 350km/h test.

  • A prototype high-speed train system, Hanvit-350, has been developed in Korea since 1996. The train has reached the maximum speed of 352.4km/h during a test run on December 2004. It is presently undergoing various tests to stabilize its performance and to secure reliability. Until now, around 420 runs have been conducted and accumulates 190,000km trial run. The test database management program is developed using existing analysis program, LabVIEW and database program, Microsoft-SQL. The test database management program is used to analysis of test results and will be used to find out the correlation characteristics between parameters.

  • Establishing the remote monitoring system of the moving test train is the important issue for the railway systems that provide comfort travel to the passengers. But it is not easy to transmit train's test data to remote site because the train runs tunnels. This paper represent the development results of Hanvit 350 remote monitoring system using wireless data communication system which is installed in the test train. This system can provide both correct positions of unstable track and train's running status such as speed, kilopost and acceleration.

  • PCC(Point of Common Coupling) is measured by waveform in power system. Analyzing their frequency, it is possible to get various indices such as THD(Total Harmonic Distortion), TDD(Total Demand Distortion), and VF(Voltage Flicker), and then the harmonic can be evaluated from them. In this paper, the harmonic effect on the power supply which is generated by the vehicle is presented by comparing harmonics with the substation and the vehicle.
