Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of smoking prevention programs and their effectiveness for Korean school-aged children and adolescents by using systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: Electronic searches were performed in RISS, NAL, DBPia, KISS using keywords according to inclusion criteria. 21 studies published from 2003 to the first half of 2017 that dealt with effects of smoking prevention programs for school-aged children and adolescents were selected for systematic review. Results: All 21 studies were quasi-experimental research designs. More than half of the programs(66.7%) were conducted for male and female. Most of the programs were conducted more than once a week(71.4%). 14 studies(66.7%) did not report using a theoretical model. Five dependent variables(knowledge of smoking, attitude toward smoking, non-smoking intention, self-assertiveness, and self-efficacy) were selected to measure the effectiveness of the smoking prevention programs. Knowledge of smoking was the most effective at hedge's g=0.673. Self-efficacy and self-assertiveness variables were statistically significant at hedge's g=0.461 and hedge's g=0.279, respectively. Effect sizes of attitude toward smoking and non-smoking intention were not statistically significant compared to the control group. As a result of the moderator effect analysis on the knowledge of smoking variable, the statistically significant variables were 'gender of participants'(p<0.01) and 'duration of the program'(p<0.001). Conclusions: The results of this study using systematic review and meta-analysis will be evidence-based data for researchers conducting smoking prevention programs in school-aged children and adolescents.

Objectives: About for twenty years, immigrant women in South Korea have steadily increased due to economic growth and industrialization. According to previous studies in terms of immigrants, subjective socio-economic status(SES) as well as objective SES such as income, occupation and level of education predict health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine association between subjective social status and perceived health among immigrant women. Methods: We analyzed 12,531 participants from the 2012 National Survey of Multicultural Families. Study variables included subjective SES in Korea, subjective SES in community and perceived health. Control variables were age, household income, employment, education, marital status, ethnicity, language proficiency. For this study, descriptive analysis, Chi-square test, and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: Among immigrant women, after adjusting for control variables, level of education in community was not associated with perceived health. Otherwise, subjective social status in Korea(low subjective social status reference group vs high subjective status : OR 2.056) was associated with perceived health. Conclusions: Immigrant women in Korea would be culturally affected by inherent characteristic rather than social economic status. Through this study, in order to improve health inequality among immigrant women, we should consider developing social supports and networks.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the hygiene behaviors according to obesity in adolescents and to provide basic data for school health project. Methods: The data from the 10th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey(KYRBWS) were analyzed by STATA 13.0 statistical packages. The demographic characteristics were analyzed by frequency analysis. The relationship between obesity and hygiene behaviors according to demographic characteristics were analyzed by chi-square test. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used for the correlation among the variables. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the effect of obesity on the hand washing and oral hygiene behaviors. The significance level for significance was set at 0.05. Results: Obesity, hand washing before eating and hand washing after using the bathroom were significant negative correlation. Hand washing before eating and hand washing after using the bathroom were significant positive correlation. Hand washing after using the bathroom were positive correlation with toothbrushing after lunch. Washing before eating was 1.079 times higher than that of obese people(p<0.05), and toothbrushing after lunch was higher by 1.298 times in Odds ratio than normal weight(p<0.001). Conclusions: There is a need to develop a school dental health program by collecting hygiene behaviors such as obesity, hand washing, and brushing after lunch.

Background and objectives: One-person households are the fastest growing family type in Korea. They bring social concerns such as weakened social integration, increasing poverty and social isolation. They are not homogeneous but heterogeneous groups depending on their socio-demographic characteristics including generation. This study compared the life satisfaction level as well as factors affecting it among the three one-person household generations Methods: The 13th wave of the Korea Welfare Panel dataset with 1,187 respondents was utilized. For data analysis Chi-square test, analysis of variance and hierarchical regression analysis were employed. Generations are divided into three, namely young adult (20-39), the middle-aged (40-64) and the elderly (65 and over). Result: The life satisfaction level was highest among the young adult one-person household generation, followed by the middle-aged and the elderly generation. The common factors affecting life satisfaction of the three generations were physical as well as mental health, including self-esteem and depression. However, there were more factors different from generation to generation. As for the young adult, age, religion, and smoking were significant. As for the middle aged and the elderly, gender (male) and income were significant. Additionally, age, home-ownership and drinking were significant to the elderly generation. Conclusions: As there are differences as well as similarities among the three generations, policies for one-person households need to be devised considering these findings. For all generations, both physical and mental health policies are needed. For young adult strengthening social relations, providing decent jobs, and promoting anti-smoking policy are major agenda, and for the middle-aged and the elderly, assisting in social capital accumulation (for male), providing stable jobs and diverse leisure activities, and securing income. Additionally, for the elderly, expanding the social security system and housing support are needed.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the research trends on oral health literacy in South Korea and to suggest the direction of future research, Methods: The literatures were searched using KISS, RISS, KMBASE, KoreaMed, Nanet and NDSL. A total of 17,433 documents were retrieved by database searching. The final 34 literatures that satisfied the inclusion criteria were selected for analyzing. A content analysis was performed on 34 literatures on the topics of oral health literacy which had been published from 2012 to 2019. Results: Most of the 34 literatures, 23 articles and 11 thesises were descriptive-correlation studies, but there was no intervention study. The participants studied in the selected literatures were mostly adults followed by elderly and other groups including foreigner. More troubling sufficient samples and sampling methods were lacking at the population level. The validation of the used health literacy instruments was not sufficient. Conclusions: The unification of translation terminology for oral health literacy and the standardized instrument to test oral health literacy are needed. And to improve the level of oral health literacy, studies should be conducted using various variables. It is also necessary to develop the oral health education programs that can improve the level of oral health literacy. In the future, meta-analysis on the oral health literacy are needed for cumulating findings and drawing more reliable and general conclusions.

Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of personal characteristics and health beliefs on health behaviors of foreign workers living in Korea. Methods: The subjects of this study were foreign workers who understood the purpose of this study and allowed participation in the workplaces in northern Gyeonggi Province. The final subjects were 206, and collected all data were analyzed by SPSS 23.0. Results: The personal characteristics of the subjects were 51.0% for male and 49.0% for female, and the average age was 31.76(±6.96) years old. The mean for each health belief factors was perceived benefits 4.03(±.56), perceived severity 3.75(±.73), perceived susceptibility 3.65(±.64), self-efficacy 3.56(±.83), and perceived barriers 3.34(±.73). The mean of each health behavior factors was non-smoking 4.02(±.83), drinking 3.92(±.80), health responsibility 3.42(±.83), exercise 3.37(±1.01), dietary habits 1.91(±.11), and stress management 1.72(±.27). The correlation between sub-factors of health belief was all at the level of p <0.01. The sub-factors of health belief were health behavior and perceived susceptibility(r=.773, p<0.01), followed by self-efficacy(r=.760, p<0.01), and perceived severity(r=.574, p<0.01). The factors affecting health behavior were self-efficacy(β=.540, p<.001), perceived susceptibility(β=.461, p<.001), perceived benefits(β=.152, p<.05), marriage status(β=-. 100, p <.05), and income(β=-. 120, p <.05) in order. Conclusion: In-depth consideration of factors that can affect the physical, psychological and social health of foreign workers, and various program development and intervention strategies based on these factors should be sought.

Objectives: This study aims to examine hypertension patients' quality of life by using the data of the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1st year, 2016), identify the factors related to this, and utilize the results as basic data for intervention that can improve hypertension patients' quality of life. Methods: For the research subjects, this study extracted 1,531 patients who were diagnosed with hypertension by a doctor from the total sample of 8,150 participants of the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and selected 1,072 patients with no missing value in the variables to be analyzed as the final research subjects. The SPSS(version25.0) program was used for the analysis of the collected data. Then, this study used a backward elimination multiple regression analysis method that applied complex sample, to examine the factors related with the finally estimated quality of life. Results: The results of this study revealed that hypertension patients' quality of life was related with age, occupation, spouse, household income, weight gain, restriction of activity, subjected health status, perceived stress, and presence of comorbidity. The final model explained 37.0% of the variance (Wald F=30.012 p<.001). Conclusions: When an intervention program is implemented for the improvement of hypertension patients' quality of life in the future, it will be effective to construct the program according to age group, employment, marital status and household income. As for the program operation, patients should get help therefrom to control weight, facilitate activities and relieve their stress, and they should be also motivated to feel healthy. Furthermore, education should be offered so that they appropriately manage their underlying disease at an early stage.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the mediating effect of the health self-efficacy and activity confidence in the relationship between body image and health promoting behavior in middle school girls. Methods: A descriptive correlational design was used. Participants were 142 in middle school girls. The questionnaire consisted of measuring tools for body image, health promoting behavior, health self-efficacy and activity confidence. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and the PROCESS Macro for SPSS 23.0 to verify the multiple mediated effect with a parallel structure. Results: Body image showed a significant positive correlation with health self-efficacy (r=.28, p=.001), activity confidence (r=.45, p<.001) and health promoting behavior (r=.37, p<.001). Health self-efficacy was also significantly correlated with activity confidence (r=.51, p<.001) and health promoting behavior (r=.63, p<.001). Activity confidence was significantly health promoting behavior (r=.67, p<.001). Furthermore, health self-efficacy (B=.35, p<.001) and activity confidence (B=.38, p<.001) showed a mediation effect on the relationship between body image and health promoting behavior. Conclusion: The impact of body image on health promoting behavior in middle school girls was mediated by health self-efficacy and activity confidence. Result suggest that strategies for improving health self-efficacy and activity confidence in middle school girls should be considered when developing an educational program for enhancing their health promoting behavior.

Background & objectives: Life style modification reduces the health risks of young people and improves their health status. Physical activity is known the effective factor to reduce health risks and health problems. This study performed to analyze health promotion behaviors related to physical activity among first-year students of university. Methods: To examine the association with physical activity and health promotion practices, health survey was conducted with 3,806 students who were first-year students in a university by self-reported questionnaire from February 26 to March 10, 2015. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the difference of health promotion behaviors by physical activities. Results: 51.4% of the first-year student was regular exercisers who had practiced on regular walking exercise or regular strength exercise or regular aerobic exercise for a week. 87.8% of students exercised one or more times within the last one week. On the other hand, 12.2% of them did not exercise. In multiple logistic regression models, it remained significantly the difference of regular exercise by gender, subjective health status, sleeping time per one day, BMI, drinking behavior, and eating habit (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). Also it remained significantly the difference by physical activity type, such as walking, strengthen, and aerobic exercise (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). Conclusion: To help the achievement of academic goal, it should build physical activity policies and comprehensive health promotion programs to reduce health risk factors of university students. Comprehensive university health services and customized program for university students could help to make the best of their health. In future, to enhance physical activity practice, it needs to develop various tailed messages and smart healthcare service using health information technology (IT) on campus.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the satisfaction of tutoring and some dental hygiene students and to investigate whether the self - efficacy and subjective norm are mediating effects. Methods: This study was conducted on 81 students in the first year, 82 students in the second year, 30 students in third year of girls who are majoring in the dental hygiene of a college in north Gyeonsang province Form September 1 to October 15 2017 asked them to answer the questionnaire and retrieved the questionnaire, among the 193 questionnaires except for the inaccurate response, 186 were final analysis. Results: In the relationship between the affective factors of tutoring learning and the satisfaction of tutoring learning, the relationship of social interdependence, group intimacy, program usefulness, group commitment, academic self - efficacy, subjective norm, It was found to be relevant. The usefulness of the program was found to have a significant effect on the satisfaction of tutoring learning. Conclusions: It is expected that the tutoring learning satisfaction is mediated by the academic self - efficacy and the subjective norm, so that it can be utilized as the basic data of the study application of the new education program in the field of dental hygiene.
