RC Flat Plate Subject to Combined In-Plane Compressive and Out-of-Plane Floor Loads (면내 압축력 및 면외 바닥하중을 받는 플랫 플레이트 슬래브)

  • This paper presents a numerical study on the flat plates in deep basements, subjected to out-of-plane floor load and in-plane compressive load due to soil and hydraulic lateral pressure. For nonlinear finite element analysis, a computer program addressing material and geometric nonlinearities is developed. The validity of the numerical model is established by comparison with existing experiments performed on plates simply supported on four edges. The flat plates to be studied are designed according to the Direct Design Method in Korean Building Code for Structural Concrete. Through numerical study on the effects of different load combinations and loading sequence, the load condition that governs the strength of the flat plates is determined. For the plates under the governing load condition, parametric studies are performed to investigate variations of the strength with reinforcement ratio, aspect ratio, concrete strength, and slenderness ratio. Based on the numerical results, the floor load magnification factor is proposed.

A Study on an Effective Event Detection Method for Event-Focused News Summarization (사건중심 뉴스기사 자동요약을 위한 사건탐지 기법에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigates an event detection method with the aim of generating an event-focused news summary from a set of news articles on a certain event using a multi-document summarization technique. The event detection method first classifies news articles into the event related topic categories by employing a SVM classifier and then creates event clusters containing news articles on an event by a modified single pass clustering algorithm. The clustering algorithm applies a time penalty function as well as cluster partitioning to enhance the clustering performance. It was found that the event detection method proposed in this study showed a satisfactory performance in terms of both the F-measure and the detection cost.

  • Co(II) complexes with tridentate Schiff base-NOIPH and tetradentate Schiff base-$NOTDH_2$ and $TNBPH_4$ were synthesized. The redox process of the complexes in DMF solution containing 0.1M TBAP was investigated at glassy carbon electrode by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques. Reduction step of [Co(II)$(NOIP)_2$] and [Co(II)$(H_2O)_2$] complexes were observed in two step as one electron process of irreversible or quasi-reversible and diffusion-controlled reaction. [$Co(II)_2$(TNBP)] complex was observed in one step as one electron process of quasi-reversible and diffusion-controlled reaction.

Causal study on the effect of survey methods in the 19th presidential election telephone survey (19대 대선 전화조사에서 조사방법 효과에 대한 인과연구)

  • We investigate and estimate the causal effect of the survey methods in telephone surveys for the 19th presidential election. For this causal study, we draw a causal graph that represents the causal relationship between variables. Then we decide which variables should be included in the model and which variables should not be. We explain why the research agency is a should-be variable and the response rate is a shouldnot-be variable. The effect of ARS can not be estimated due to data limitations. We have found that there is no significant difference in the effect of the proportion of cell phone survey if it is less than about 90 percent. But the support rate for Moon Jae-in gets higher if the survey is performed only by cell phones.

Narrative Inquiry into Happiness of Two Elementary Gifted Students (초등영재아동의 '행복 경험'에 대한 내러티브 탐구)

  • The purpose of this narrative inquiry is to explore two gifted elementary students' 'happiness experience'. They narrated that they experienced strong happiness at the moment 'doing something they really like for themselves ', 'trying and achieving in self-directed way', and 'feeling trust, love, and support from their family'. Also happiness was the results of their effort. They made an effort to reduce their negative emotion against happiness by 'controling their feeling doing something their favorite activities' and 'working again and again until they succeed'. The results of the study show that social and emotional support as well as help in the cognitive aspects is important. Especially, parents variable was an essential condition for them to have happiness experiences. More specifically, the study show that overgovernment and excessive intervention from parents should be distinguished from 'good caring' of their child. Practical implication of the study was discussed in depth.

Pervaporation Separation of Water-Isopropyl Alcohol Mixtures Using PVA/PAN Hollow Fiber Composite Membranes (PVA/PAN 중공사 복합막을 이용한 IPA수용액의 투과증발분리)

  • Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solution containing the glutaraldehyde (GA) as a crosslinking agent was coated onto the polyacrylonitrile (PAN) hollow fiber membrane as the supporter. Pervaporation experiments were carried out to characterize the prepared PVA/PAN composite membrane for water-isopropyl alcohol mixture. The flux and separation factor were measured at 30, 50, $90^{\circ}C$ for the feed mixture of aqueous 85 wt% IPA solution with varying the reaction temperature and composition of coating solutions. Typically the flux showed 1,870 $g/m^2{\cdot}hr$ at $90^{\circ}C$ feed mixture and the coating concentration of 3.5 wt% and the highest separation factor of 804 was obtained at $30^{\circ}C$ feed mixture and the coating concentration of 7 wt% as well.

Membrane Process Development for $CO_2$ Separation of Flaring Gas (Flaring 가스의 $CO_2$ 분리를 위한 분리막 공정 기술개발)

  • We prepared composite membrane which was made with polysulfone supported hollow fiber membrane coated with Hyflon AD to eliminate $CO_2$ gas from mixed-gases which were generated in DME manufacturing processes. The performance of module about simulated flaring gas was measured by using manufactured composite membrane. 1-stage evaluation result shows $CO_2$ concentration was below 3% at 1.2 MPa and at Stage cut 0.24 above. In addition $CO_2$ removal rate and $CH_4$ recovery rate was 80% respectively at the same condition. 2-stage evaluation result shows, when the $CO_2$ concentration of product gas was fixed at 5%, recycled $CO_2$ at stage cut 0.074 had the same concentration as the feed gas and the recovery rate of $CH_4$ was 99% at the moment.

Antecedents of Exploration Activities: Focused on Internal Ffactors (탐험활동의 선행요인: 기업 내부특성을 중심으로)

  • In order to identify the antecedents of organization's exploration activities, this study focuses on internal factors. There are many theoretical and empirical studies for an organization's exploration activities, while the research on antecedents is limited. This study is aimed at the manufacturing industry in Korea from 1998 to 2012 using data from 15 years of slack, ownership structure, and TMT diversity. The study examined the impact of these firm-specific factors on firm's exploration activities. As a result, a company's exploration activities and slack have positive relationship. Between insider ownership and exploration activities, the hypothesis was not supported. Also, the relationship between TMT diversity and exploration activities was dismissed. Finally, based on the results of this analysis, the contribution of this study, limitations and implications are drawn.

Establishment of Design Factors and Procedure for Permeable Asphalt Pavements Structural Design (투수성 아스팔트 포장 구조설계를 위한 설계인자 도출 및 설계방법에 관한 연구)

  • An extensive effort is actively being made to implement permeable pavement systems in urban or residential areas of South Korea in order to achieve efficient water circulation system based on low impact development (LID) design concept. This study aims to establish the design factors and procedure for permeable asphalt pavements structural design. Based on the review of previous studies, the 1993 AASHTO design method is found to be adequate for permeable pavements structural design. In this study, the design program based on 1993 AASHTO design procedure in conjunction with domestic roadway design standards was developed to accommodate the characteristics of permeable asphalt pavements. Primary design parameters such as structural layer coefficients of permeable materials were successfully quantified based on literature reviews and parallel analyses. Comparable design thicknesses were obtained between the developed permeable pavement design (PPD) program and Korea pavement research program (KPRP) under different levels of traffic and subgrade load bearing capacity.

Gas Permeation and Steam Stability of Ga Salt Doped Silica Membrane by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD 법으로 제조한 실리카 막의 Ga 염 첨가에 따른 스팀안정성 및 기체투과특성)

  • In this study, a ceramic membrane was prepared by CVD. Tube type alpha alumina support was used for substrate and added the Ga salt in intermediate layer. Synthesized method was counter diffusion CVD method at $650^{\circ}C$ with tetramethylorthosilane (TMOS). Gas permeation was measured at $600^{\circ}C$ using single-component $H_2$, $N_2$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$. During the steam treatment, $H_2/N_2$ permselectivity of non-Ga silica membrane was decreased 926 to 829 at $600^{\circ}C$. On the other hand $H_2/N_2$ permselectivity of added Ga silica membrane was stable 910 to 904 at $600^{\circ}C$. These results show that the metal-doped membranes improved steam stability for gas separation.
