This study aims at understanding in detail the process of constructing database from outsourced cataloging by investigating the actual conditions of university libraries nationwide regarding the outsourcing of cataloging processing that are being carried out in technical processing. And librarians' opinions about the cataloging inserted by outsourcing companies are considered and revised in depth. Also the degree of understanding of outsourcing company staffs regarding the cataloging is investigated then compared to that of library processing staffs and the difference is analyzed. Coupled with that, degree of understanding about CIP of National Library of Korea and functionality of reference cataloging of Korea Education & Research Information Service(KERIS) is investigated, thus the future directions to which technical processing of library should move forward are presented.

This study aims to evaluate the quality of Bibliographic database : The Union Catalog system(UNICAT) and Korean Library Information System Network(KOLIS-NET). The seven criteria(Coverage, Accuracy, Completeness, Currentness, Consistency on the quality of data itself and easy of use, Customer Support on the quality of database service) are used to measure their quality. The purpose of this study was dignose the quality of two bibliographic database mentioned above and analyses the measured result of quality comparatively and to find out the problems of them and also to provide possible suggestion for their improvements.

The purpose of this study is to examine how the titles and corporate names of Japanese scholarly journals are treated, and how well the authority control is implemented to assist the access with various names and forms of names to the OPACS. Without the help of either references or internal links among those names and forms of names in the DBs, users are likely to fail in getting the right results. In this study, the cataloging records for serials from the National Assembly Library, KISTI, Yonsei University and the KERIS were examined, and the comparison was made with the records from the NACIS-WebCat of the National Institute of Informatics in Japan. Major findings include (1) the lack of consistency in applying cataloging rules, (2) the lack of proper authority control in treating corporate names, and (3) the lack of references or links among names and variant forms of names. The overall improvement of cataloging practices and application of authority control is strongly recommended for enabling users to access better to those DBs of interest.
