  • The goal of this paper is to analyze the vocabularies and cases related to Kimchi as a cultural history. For this purpose, we extract the vocabularies of Kimchi from the records of Korean Literary Collection in Classical Chinese, Annals of the Choson Dynasty, Records of Daily Reflection, and Diary of the Royal Secretariat. The existing literatures related to Kimchi are confined to some cookbooks, but in this study, we attempt to overcome the existing limitations and adopt a comprehensive and systematic approach. The classic literatures of the Choson Dynasty are mainly recorded in traditional Chinese characters; therefore, the readability is poor, and it is presupposed that a lot of time and effort will be needed for the translation work after securing the data. Therefore, we performed this research with a focus on this part. Next, we tried to reconstruct the archetype of Kimchi culture in the Choson Dynasty by classifying the above materials according to the subject and literature sources.

  • Recognizing the problem that the definition of the term pan-ock does not appear precisely in the dictionary, the definition of pan-ock was established through analysis by analyzing 183 cases of pan-ock searched in the Korean Classics DB and classifying them into buildings and ships. First of all, the 65 pan-ocks classified as architecture were used in various ways, such as residences, religious facilities, jang-pan-ocks, and prisons, depending on their use. Second, the 90 cases of pan-ock related to ships were the concept of houses that combine work and accommodation on ships. Finally, through military installations, literary expressions, and bureaucrats who have seen trains and wagons, Pan-ock uses boards. It can be used for walls or roofs only, or for both walls and roofs. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the case of the Joseon Dynasty with the definition of Pan-ock in the existing dictionary. In other words, Pan-ock refers to "houses, religious facilities, royal tombs, and prisons, with various uses and forms. In addition, it refers to the joining of only the wall or the roof with planks, or the joining of both the wall and the roof," suggesting a broader interpretation of the category.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the three aspects of the construction and common use of old document DB in the foreign countries: i) the processing of old documents, ii) the problem and improvement of DB systems of old documents. and iii) the common use of old document DB. Results from this research are as follows: The National Library of Korea(NLK) copied old documents in the foreign countries from 1982 to 2006 and published the brief catalog. The Reogang Publishing company issued four volumes catalogs of old document in Japan. The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage(NRICH) investigated old books and published some catalogs of several organizations in Japan. America. France. and all. The National Institute of Korean History(NIKH) investigated old archives and published some catalogs of several organizations in Japan. The characteristics of the Korean Old and Rare Collection Information System(KORCIS) of the NLK, the Old Books Cultural Heritage in Overseas System of the NRICH. and the Korea History DB System and MF Catalog/ Image System of NIKH were described in the DB systems of old documents, the problems of DB systems were checked over and some alternatives were suggested. In the common use of old document DB, KORMARC format and description rules(draft) for archives should be revised to adopt a new standard such as KS editions. and all the institutes involved should thoroughly follow the standards. when creating bibliographic records and digitizing texts. It is necessary to educate and train the specialists of old documents. A government organization should be established to supervise all the procedures of developing technology for sharing digitized resources. using contents. and cooperating with the related internationl organizations and institutes.

  • Relationship networks such as an interpersonal relationship network or navigation route search can be expressed in graph form. However, as the amount of data increase, there is a problem that it is difficult to search for the desired data when it is displayed on one screen. In this paper, we propose a visualization method for searching for people, searching for the shortest path between people, and using graphs to express an interpersonal relationship network with many nodes. Unlike the search for the shortest path in the routing table, the shortest path in the interpersonal relationship network should be changeable according to the intension or importance of the researcher or user who is analyzing it. To this end, the BFS algorithm was modified to apply the characteristics of the interpersonal relationship network. For the verification of the results, the data in the character relationship information of the Korean Classics DB in the Korean Classics Translation Institute was used.

  • A Collective intelligence as a means of creation of new knowledge is a keyword in the internet era. However, all parts of the collective intelligence is not useful. This paper examined the process of scattered historical data restoration by use of collective intelligence. and conditions for effective restoration. A restoration of historical data is the basis of research and uncovering the historical facts. In the past, some passionate researchers restored the historical data. However, its progress was slow and the amount of the restored data was not much. Moreover, the restoration itself was not easy even to verify the results. The internet made a number of researchers and the general public collaborate for restoration of historical data. Due to the collective intelligence of the internet, a possibility of historical data restoration increased. This paper examined the restoration process of the military examination roster(武科及第者) in Korean Historical Figures DB(韓國歷代人物綜合情報). The passionate users took part in the restoration in such a way to donate the old documents and inform the location of originals and articles of military examination. The results of the restoration were reliable. And this paper confirmed that passionate participants, competent and professional operators, and reliable focal point(Internet Community) should be added in order to more accurately restore the data.

  • With the development of technology for visualizing big-data, tasks such as intuitively analyzing a lot of data, detecting errors, and deriving meaning are actively progressing. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a 3D analysis that collects and stores the writing data in Chinese characters provided by the Korean Classical Database of the Korean Classics Translation Institute, stores and progress the data, and visualizes the writing information in a 3D network diagram. It solves the problem when a large amount of data is expressed in 2D, intuitive that analysis, error detection, meaningful data extraction such as characteristics, similarity, differences, etc. and user convenience can be provided. In this paper, we improved the problems of analyzing Chosun dynasty poetry in Chinese characters using 2D visualization conducted in previous studies.

  • The existing management job of research expenses has been divided into three parts: budget planning, budget draw-up, and exact settlement of budget. However, it caused some problems. Under this current circumstance it is required to obtain research expenses steadily, to operate efficiently and to use them clearly to solve such problems. As a result of a study on data warehouse development process of existing system integration company (Inmon, IBM) to reflect current trend described above, data warehouse development process of Inmon uses systematic and gradual access as a classical development cycle method. It causes overlap and feedback to the previous step in the process of each step Is requested. And another problem that it is difficult to toil what function refers and corrects data because functions and data are separated during performing development process at data warehouse development process of IBM is caused. Integrated management data warehouse development process of research expenses in the enterprise environment which applies UML at planning and analysis step, design step and implement and test step is suggested in this paper. Information retrieval agent uses existing budget plan DB, budget draw-up DB and budget settlement DB to find out information that a user wants to know. Information retrieval agent collects and saves information at integration database and information integration agent extracts, transports, transforms and loads the data. Information integration agent reduces a user's efforts to access to a number of information sources and check each of them. It also screens out data that a user may not need. As a result, integrated management data warehouse development process of research expenses in the enterprise environment reflects a user's requirements as much as possible and provides various types of information to make a decision which is needed to establish the policy of research expense management. It helps an end user approach his/her desired analysis information quickly and get various data from the comprehensive viewpoint rather than the fragmentary viewpoint. Furthermore, as it integrated three systems into one, it is possible to share data, to integrate the system, to reduce operating expenses and to simplify supporting environment for the decision making.

  • Even before recorded history, the Korean people took ginseng. Later, poetry passed down from China developed into a literary style in which intellectuals from the Silla, Goryeo, and Joseon Dynasties expressed their thoughts concisely. The aim of this paper is to find Korean poems related to ginseng and to look for their semantic network. To this end, "Korea Classical DB ", produced by the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics, was searched to find ginseng poems. As the result of a search in November 2021, two poems from the Three Kingdoms Period, two poems from the Goryeo Dynasty, and 23 poems from the Joseon Dynasty were searched. An examination of these poems found that the first ginseng poem was "Goryeoinsamchan," which was sung by people in Goguryeo around the 6th century. Ginseng poetry during the Goryeo Dynasty is represented by Anchuk's poem. Anchuk sang about the harmful effects of ginseng tributes from a realistic point of view. Ginseng poetry in the Joseon Dynasty is represented by Seo Geo-jeong in the early period and Jeong Yakyong in the late period. Seo Geo-jeong's ginseng poem is a romantic poem that praises the mysterious pharmacological effects of ginseng. A poem called "Ginseng" by Yongjae Seonghyeon is also a romantic poem that praises the mysterious medicinal benefits of ginseng. As a scholar of Realist Confucianism, Dasan Jeong Yak-yong wrote very practical ginseng poems. Dasan left five ginseng poems, the largest number written by one poet. Dasan tried ginseng farming himself and emerged from the experience as a poet. The story of the failure and success of his ginseng farming was described in his poems. At that time, ginseng farming was widespread throughout the country due to the depletion of natural ginseng and the development of ginseng farming techniques after the reign of King Jeongjo. Since the early 19th century, ginseng farming had been prevalent on a large scale in the Gaeseong region, and small-scale farming had also been carried out in other regions. What is unusual is Kim Jin-soo's poem. At that time, in Tong Ren Tang, Beijing (the capital of the Qing Dynasty), ginseng from Joseon sold well under the "Songak Sansam" brand. Kim Jin-Soo wrote about this brand of ginseng in his poem. In 1900, Maecheon Hwanghyeon also created a ginseng poem, written in Chinese characters. Thus, the semantic network of Korean ginseng poems is identified as follows: 1) Ginseng poetry in the spirit of the people - Emerging gentry in the Goryeo Dynasty (Anchuk). 2) Romantic ginseng poetry - Government School in the early Joseon Dynasty (Seo Geo-jeong, Seonghyeon, etc.). 3) Practical ginseng poetry - Realist School in the late Joseon Dynasty (Jeong Yak-yong, Kim Jin-soo, Hwang Hyun, etc.). This semantic network was extracted while examining the development of Korean ginseng poems.

  • This study attempted to examine the loving pigeon culture practiced in traditional gardens and to illuminate the aspect of pigeons as a landscape animal material. In order to understand the culture of enjoying old garden through pigeons, the contents were analyzed for the translated version of the old literatures and paintings. Pigeons have been used as Jeonseo-gu(傳書鳩) and also for medicinal purposes and food. Pigeons have various symbolic meanings such as abundance, hospitality, and longevity. From the Goryeo Dynasty to the early Joseon Dynasty, pigeons were raised in the palace and private garden. In the late Joseon Dynasty, temporary trend of ornamental pigeon culture occurred. Pigeons were synesthesia materials that enriched the forest. Various beautiful pigeons created a variable landscape of the primeval forest as a moving landscape material. The bell sounds that appear differently depending on the pigeon's movement led to a rich auditory experience of the landscape. The pigeon house was an ornamental element that enriched the old garden along with the pigeon. The owners of garden were involved in gardening through the act of buying a pigeon house and placing it in the garden or making a pigeon house themselves. In addition, the writers planted plum trees, peach trees, apricot trees, and hawthorn trees as a symbol of spring and a source of food for pigeons, and expressed them in poems and paintings. This study has a limitation in that the translation of the old text was used as an analysis data. The follow-up studies on specific cases of raising pigeons in the old garden, in modern and contemporary landscape spaces are urged.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the actual cases of crane breeding at private homes in the Joseon Dynasty period, thereby identifying the universal meaning and characteristics of this act reflected in these cases. This study is likely to help understand the true nature of garden culture during the period. The study' temporal and spatial scope was limited to the Joseon Dynasty and private homes. As references for the study, translated versions of classical literature were selected from the Database of Korean Classics(http://db.itkc.or.kr). To complement for the data, related researchers' translated materials were also used in part. The study's results are summed up as follows: First, Individuals from various social classes including royal families, noblemen, noble families in countryside, and commoners kept cranes at their homes. These crane breeders included those who left a significant mark in the Joseon Dynasty politically and academically as well as 'cheosa(處士)' that refers to scholars living in seclusion without entering the government throughout their lifetime. Second, Crane breeders were spread all over the country. Notably, various cases of crane breeding were found within the Hanyang Wall and its vicinity. Third, The act of crane breeding was highly associated with blood ties and academic lineages such as friendships and teacher-student relations. In this regard, crane breeding was not just a simple taste or appreciation for the arts, but rather reflective of a person's life attitude and orientation. Forth, The consciousness of Confucian origins based on an ancient story of Limpo (林逋) appears to have a large impact on the act of crane breeding. In addition, some cases exhibited the reflection of Taoistic tastes. Fifth, Some individuals tamed cranes for a living. This proves the presence of steady demand for cranes in this period. The present study's limitation is its reliance on translated materials, which hindered research into various cases. Therefore, the future discovery of additional data and the accumulation of their translations will enable the investigation of a wealth of cases.
