A case study of learning attitude change according to programming learning experience (프로그래밍 학습 경험에 따른 학습 태도 변화 사례 연구)

  • The change of programming language learning experience on learning motivation was analyzed. Learning a programming language is generally evaluated as a difficult process even for majors. Measuring psychological changes related to programming learning at this point in expanding to non-majors is necessary for learner analysis. The overall learner attitude change was investigated by measuring achievement goals, academic interest, academic self-efficacy, cognitive involvement, and academic self-regulation, which are motivation-related factors. All factors related to learning attitude showed a decrease in the post-test results. This result is interpreted that the difficulty of the learning process decreased the motivation to learn programming. It was found that the greater the difficulty perceived by the learner, the greater the decrease in the motivation to learn. Based on the results of this study, it has implications that a learning environment and learning process that can give feedback and a situation that can reduce the level of learning difficulty felt by learners should be systematically given.

Effects of the Problem-based Learning Utilizing Algorithms in a Math Class of an Elementary School (초등학교 수학 수업의 인지기제 활용 문제기반학습 효과분석)

  • 이 연구는 인지기제를 활용한 문제기반학습이 학습자의 학업성취도와 수학적 태도에 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 우선 초등학교 수학과 학습에서 학습자들의 인지과정을 안내할 수 있는 문제기반학습 설계를 위해 문제기반학습 모형에 란다(N. Landa)의 인지기제 교수학습설계이론을 적용하여 인지기제 활용 문제기반학습 모형을 도출하였다. 그리고 초등학교 수학과 4학년 2학기 4개 단원의 8차시를 추출하여 문제를 개발하고 서울시 소재 'ㅈ' 초등학교 4학년 학생들 중 동질집단으로 확인된 2개 학급에 이 모형을 적용하였다. 연구 결과 인지기제 활용 문제기반학습을 적용한 실험집단과 적용하지 않은 통제집단 간 학업성취도 효과에 있어서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 또한 수학적 태도와 관련해서는 하위영역 중 수학에 대한 자아개념과 수학에 대한 태도 영역에서는 유의한 차이가 있었으나 수학에 대한 학습습관 영역에서는 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 특히 세부영역별로 자신감, 흥미, 우월감, 주의집중, 목적의식, 자율학습에 있어서 유의한 차이를 보였으며, 학습기술 적용과 성취동기에 대해서는 유의한 차이가 없었다.

The Effect of Cooperative Computer-Assisted Instruction on Middle School Students' Learning in Science (협동적인 컴퓨터 보조 수업이 중학생들의 과학 학습에 미치는 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of cooperative and individual computer-assisted instructions upon middle school students' science conceptions, achievement, perception of learning environment, and motivation. The cooperative, individual, and traditional learning groups were selected from a middle school, and taught about the motion of molecule for 5 class hours. Data analyses indicated that the students with cooperative computer-assisted instruction scored significantly higher than those with traditional instruction in the tests of conceptual understanding, perception of learning environment and motivation. Better understanding of the cooperative learning group was also found in a retention test of conceptions. In addition, there were significant interactions between the instruction and the level of prior achievement in the tests of retention of conceptions and motivation. Educational implications are discussed.

  • In a sense that achievement emotion is directly associated with achievement activity of students and its result, drastic changes in educational environment such as expansion of e-learning due to COVID-19 may have a large impact on the achievement emotion of students inevitably. However, studies on the foregoing still remain insufficient, and development of a questionnaire capable of making a quantitative measurement on the achievement emotion of students under the environment of e-learning may become the basis of relevant studies, so this study developed the e-learning Achievement Emotions Questionnaire-Korean Middle school Science(e-AEQ-KMS) and verified its validity. e-AEQ-KMS in this study was developed based on the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire-Korean Middle school Science (AEQ-KMS) and by reflecting characteristics of e-learning science class. With 226 questions in total, the questionnaire is composed to measure 9 kinds of achievement emotion such as enjoyment, hope, pride, relief, anger, anxiety, hopelessness, shame, and boredom under 3 academic situations of class situation, learning situation and testing situation. The result of this study has a great significance in the way that it set out a framework for making a comparative analysis quantitatively on the achievement emotion of Korean middle school students in science for e-learning classes.

The Effect of DMM on Learning Motivation and Academic Achievement in SW Education of Non-Major (비전공자의 SW 교육을 위한 시연 중심 모형의 학습동기와 학업성취도 효과)

  • In order to nurture talents who will lead the digital convergence era of the 4th industrial revolution that creates new knowledge and industries, research is being conducted on teaching methods that can improve the understanding of non-majors' SW concept, computational thinking ability, and convergence with majors is becoming Non-majors face difficulties in understanding and understanding the SW development environment, relevance to their major, and ability to converge. We used software education that is relatively easy to access for non-majors, and applied a demonstration-oriented model (DMM) that can be applied to beginners in SW education to understand the components and logical flow of ideas related to applications and majors used in real life. A convergence SW Learning method that combines repetitive implementation through instructor's demonstration and learner's modeling and learning motivational factors was proposed. In the experiment applying the teaching and learning method proposed in this paper, meaningful results were shown in terms of learning motivation and academic achievement in SW education.

The relationship between learning motivation, learning commitment and academic achievement of nursing students who gave non-face-to-face online lectures (비대면 온라인 강의를 경험한 간호대학생들의 학습동기, 학습몰입 및 학업성취도의 관계)

  • This study investigates the relationships among learning motivation, learning immersion, and academic achievement in college-level nursing students who give non-face-to-face online lectures. The data for this study were collected using questionnaires given to 147 students attending four-year nursing colleges at two universities. For the data analysis method, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, the Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were used. As a result of the study, the average motivation was 101.29±12.18 points, learning commitment was 72.02±8.03 points, and academic achievement was 31.31±4.06 points. The relationships among learning motivation, learning commitment, and adaptation to college life showed significant positive correlations. In the results of multiple regression analysis, factors influencing the academic achievements of nursing students were found to be learning motivation and learning commitment. Therefore, in order to increase academic achievement in nursing college students, it is necessary to develop a specific strategy to improve learning motivation and to develop various activities and programs to immerse students in learning.

Investigating Factors Affecting Flipped Learning Outcomes (플립드러닝 성과를 예측하는 요인 규명)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting flipped learning outcomes. For this study, 44 middle school students participated in flipped learning activities during science classes. After 5 week of classes, they responded the following surveys: intrinsic motivation, self-regulation, interest in class, interest in science, and learning achievement. Multiple regression analyses with correlation applied to this study as data analysis methods. The results showed that intrinsic motivation significantly predicted interest in class and interest in science. In addition, self-regulation significantly predicted learning achievement. Therefore, these findings imply that intrinsic motivation and self-regulation should be considered for designing flipped learning activities in middle school science classes.

An Evaluation Study of an ESP Module Program Combining with Keller's Learning Motivation Model for the 1st grade Nursing Students (학습동기모델과 특수목적영어 융합 모듈 프로그램 평가연구: 간호학과 신입생을 대상으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an ESP module program which combines Keller's ARCS model for the $1^{st}$ grade nursing students. Students' learning motivation and academic achievement were compared between an intervention group and a control group and their perception and subjective effects on the module program were identified. Quantitative data showed that the overall level of learning motivation in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group (t=2.391, p=.019). No significant difference was found on the level of academic achievement between two groups (t=0.116, p=.098). Contents analysis on the qualitative data showed that ESP module program was interesting, effective, helpful for understanding clinical settings, and giving confidence and satisfaction. According to the result, it is assumed that the ESP module program which combines ARCS model can be effective in motivating the $1^{st}$ grade nursing students to learn nursing contents and English.

The Effectiveness of the Flipped Learning using the Smart Device (스마트 디바이스를 활용한 플립드 러닝의 효과에 관한 연구)

  • With advances in technology, many researchers have made an effort to find out educational methods with customized instruction. The purpose of the research is to investigate i) if flipped learning is beneficial for the students taking intermediate-level English grammar and writing class compared with the traditional class, ii) if the flipped learning class is advantageous for all the score level students in terms of student achievement and iii) if the students feel motivated with the flipped learning class. T-test was utilized to determine any differences between pretest and posttest in student achievement. The result in terms of the academic achievement revealed that the flipped classroom approach for the low score group was found to be the least effective among others. In the case of flipped learning teaching method, the instructor should develop contents according to the level of learners. The development of customized contents tailored to the level of learners will enhance learners' learning achievement.

The Effect of Education based on Simulation with Problem-based Learning on Nursing Students' Learning Motivation, Learning Strategy, and Academic Achievement (문제중심학습 연계 시뮬레이션 기반 교육이 간호대학생의 학습동기, 학습전략 및 학업성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted in order to develop an education program based on simulation with problem-based learning, to apply it to nursing students, and to examine its effects on the students' learning motivation, learning strategy, and academic achievement. The subjects of this study were 69 seniors majoring in nursing. Education based on simulation with problem-based learning was applied to the students from September to October in 2015, and then a questionnaire survey was conducted on their learning motivation, learning strategy, and academic achievement. According to the results of this study, the education based on simulation with problem-based learning reduced the nursing students' other-directed motivation (external motivation), increased their self-regulation motivation (identified motivation, intrinsic motivation), and improved their use of resource management strategies. In addition, academic achievement (academic performance, and educational satisfaction) was in a positive correlation with identified motivation and learning strategies (cognitive strategy, meta cognitive strategy, and resource management strategy). In conclusion, education based on simulation with problem-based learning was found to be an effective education strategy for enhancing nursing students' autonomous motivation and improving their use of resource management strategies. Thus, it is necessary to promote the application of simulation with problem-based learning in various care situations and to study factors and parameters influencing learning related variables.
