  • The 2015 revised mathematics curriculum encourages students to use graphs in newspapers and the Internet as materials when teaching graphs, and to experience a series of statistical problem-solving processes that collect, classify, organize, graph and interpret data. The graphs that the students learn through traditional textbooks were a single type of graphs. In particular, the graphs of the 5th and 6th grade groups were only increased in numbers, but the basic concepts were repeated in the 3rd and 4th grades. Fortunately, from the 2009 revision curriculum, it is possible to select the graph suitable for the situation while comparing the characteristics of some graphs. In most cases, the graphs used in the real world are presented in the form of a compounded infographics. The purpose of this study is to analyze and analyze the manifestations of information processing competence elements emphasized in the 2015 revised curriculum through the statistical project class using the informal graphic in the fifth grade of elementary school. And we suggested a concrete class plan.

  • In this study, we focus on the classifying and representing data in the elementary mathematics curriculum for 1st and 2nd grades which have been rarely addressed in the previous studies. We analyze the significance of classifying and representing sata in terms of statistical problem solving and variability as the core of statistical literacy. As a result, the classifying and representing data are important for students to recognize the variability which is ubiquitous in the data and to construct distribution of data, respectively. They are reflected in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum as the statistical literacy for addressing data. We suggest some implications to teach the classifying and representing data as the practice of statistical literacy education in their statistics classes for 1st and 2nd grades.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the introduced contents and the nature of science on the history of science in elementary school science textbooks according to the 2009 revised curriculum. For this purpose, first of all, the frequency of contents of history of science in 8 kinds of science textbooks in elementary school is analyzed by grade cluster and content part. Analysis framework for analyzing the introduced contents on the history of science was characterized with three-dimensional combination of the context, the role and the types(Park, Lee, & Lee, 2011). Analysis framework for the nature of science on the history of science was developed by Leite(2002) and revised by Choi (2005) and Kim(2010) and complemented under one expert in science education. The results of this study are as follows: First, the frequency of contents of history of science in textbook is 26 and it were not equally distributed into science textbooks in elementary school as a result of the analysis by grade cluster and content part. Second, with three-dimensional combination framework only 13 kinds were used in all 48 different types through analyzing the textbooks. It implies that ways of introducing contents of history of science into textbooks were limited to certain types. Third, the nature elements of science were not equally distributed on the history of science in elementary school science textbooks. In conclusion, in order to understand the nature of science through the history of science and to foster scientific literacy ultimately, it implicates that it is need to present various kinds of the history of science for one theme in consideration about the grade cluster and content part. Also more multilateral approach is need to introduce equally distributed into textbooks to reflect the elements of the nature of science.

  • This research aims to have some implications for revision of curriculum and textbooks by analysing connections between the 2009 revised national curriculum and its textbooks in elementary school mathematics. The results of analyses for 3~4 grades can be summarized in four aspects: Firstly, we noticed that the reconstructed achievement criteria were reflected properly in the textbooks except for use of calculators in 'Numbers and Operations'. Secondly, the analysis of connections between unit objectives of textbooks and the reconstructed achievement criteria suggests that 10 units must receive attention. Especially, the range of decimal numbers for adding and subtracting needs to be corrected. Thirdly, mathematical terms and symbols excluding 'unit fraction' were found in the textbooks. Finally, mathematical processes were also fully reflected in the textbooks. However 'simplifying' as a strategy for problem solving was only missing. This result shows good or poor connections between the curriculum and its textbooks, therefore it is expected to be used effectively to revise the national curriculum for mathematics and its textbooks.

  • This study was aimed to compare nutrition knowledge, dietary attitude and habit of elementary school children with and without education. Eighty-four subjects with unbalanced eating behavior were selected and assigned to either control or education group. The subjects in education group participated in a nutrition education program once a week for 8 weeks. The contents of nutrition education were on food tower, balanced nutrition, nutrient function, food group, importance of breakfast, and nutrition label, etc and the program was performed by a school dietitian. The effects of education was assessed by self-administered questionnaire prior to and after nutritional education. Nutrition knowledge except on snack, dietary self-efficacy except on low fat/ low calorie, attitude except on functional food and favorite, and general dietary habits of children in education group were significantly improved while those in control group showed no changes. Also, factors for unbalanced eating was improved by nutrition education indicating the need for correction on unbalanced eating was diminished. However, children's adherence to snack, instant and fast food remained to be corrected. The dietary habit of balanced eating was improved by education reducing the percentage of unbalanced eating on grain and meat.fish.milk groups. The nutrition education appears to be effective to provide nutrition knowledge thereby to improve dietary attitude, dietary self-efficacy, and partly to reduce children's unbalanced eating factor.

  • The nursing education with evidence-based practice(EBP) should set a differentiated education strategy according to the level of the learner, so that the students experience it step by step and it leads them to be skilled. The purpose of this study was to integrate and operate the EBP in the fundamental nursing classes of the second grade students and to verify the effectiveness on improvement of EBP basic competency of them. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 108 students in the second year of nursing at the two universities. The experimental group participated in the class for 8 weeks and 24 hours during the 15-weeks, second semester 2016 and the control group participated in general fundamental nursing class. Data were collected proactivity in problem solving, future use of EBP, and critical thinking disposition instrument and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with Chi-square test, independent t-test. The experimental group had a significant increase in proactivity in problem solving and future use of EBP compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference in critical thinking disposition between the two groups. Findings indicate that the fundamental nursing class used EBP was an effective lesson to improve proactivity in problem solving and future use of EBP, which is the EBP basic competency for the lower grader. Long-term efforts are needed to improve the EBP competence and critical thinking of nursing students by curriculum appropriate to grade-based goals of EBP.
