The Convergenced Influence of character on adjustment to college life in dental hygiene students: focused on the mediating effects of interpersonal relation (치위생과 학생들의 인성이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 융합된 영향 (-대인관계의 매개효과를 중심으로-))

  • The study examined the influence of character on adjustment to college life in focused on the mediating effects of interpersonal relationship 220 dental hygiene students located in G, J regions between July 23, August 20 in 2018. The data was analyzed by descriptive, pearson correlation coefficient and regression in order to mediating interpersonal relationship using SPSS 18.0 program. The dental hygiene students got a mean 3.50 in character. Among the inferior factors of character, it got 3.55 knowing factor and 3.60 feeling factor and 3.38 behaving factor. Character was positively correlated with interpersonal relationship(r=.74, p<0.01) and with adjustment to college life(r=.63, p<0.01). Interpersonal relationship(r=.65, .69, .77, p<0.01) and had a positively correlation with adjustment to college life(r=.56, .56, .68, p<0.01) interpersonal relationship was positively correlated with adjustment to college life(r=.80, p<0.01). Interpersonal relationship had perfect mediating effects on the relationship between the two. The study suggest that the interpersonal relationship of the dental hygiene students did an surely mediating role between character and adjustment to college life.

A Review Study on Adjustment of College Freshmen for Suggesting Adaptation Program (적응프로그램 제언을 위한 대학신입생 학교적응 관련 문헌분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to review articles and theses on adjustment of college freshmen from domestic researches conducted during the past 11 years, to identify overall research trends, and to suggest direction and strategies for college freshman's adjustment. The final 24 articles were selected from three databases, RISS, KISS, and NAL (National assembly library) using specific inclusion criteria. Twenty were correlation studies and four were experimental studies. In 2009, the first study on adjustment of college freshmen was published. Since then several more studies have been conducted to date. This means that people have recognized the importance of adjustment of college freshmen. Twenty three studies that are reviewed used Baker and Siryk's college adjustment tool. From reviewed correlation studies, mean score of college students' adjustment was 3.25. The related variables with adjustment of college freshmen revealed 20 items, especially self-esteem, self-efficacy, and stress showed important related concepts. The general characteristics related to adjustment of freshmen were outgoing character, living with family, aged students, satisfied with the area of study, and satisfied with school life. The findings of this study indicated that colleges when planning for the freshmen orientation program should focus on improving self-efficacy of students, stress management, mentor program, and freshmen adjustment program for each department of the school and college.

A Study on School Adjustment for Early Entrance Students of Science Academy for the Gifted (과학영재학교 조기입학 학생들의 학교적응에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the conditions and strategies of interaction for the school adjustment for the early entrance students of science academy for the gifted. To know their concerns and process of school adjustment, we interviewed six early entrance gifted students of the science academy and two gifted students preparing for their early entrance with a semi-structured questions. Using the grounded theory, a paradigm model was organized and a core category was abstracted through the open, axial, and selective coding. Based on the open coding analysis, 75 concepts, 21 sub-categories, and 10 categories were derived. In the axial coding, the paradigm model was organized by the link between 10 categories derived from open coding. Through the selective coding, this study discovered the core category about early entrance student's school adjustment was overcoming difficulties by using academic, social, and emotional strategy for school adjustment. Through this, we understand the school adjustment process of the students of early entrance to science academy for the gifted.

Children's Daily Experience and School Adjustment by Children's Self-care (초등학교 1학년 아동의 자기돌봄경험에 따른 일상생활경험 및 학교생활적응에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in children's daily experience and school adjustment of elementary school according to children's gender and self-care and to explore the relationship between children's daily experience and school adjustment. Data were collected from the NYPI panel survey of 2010. The data were analyzed by means of Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ tests, means, standard deviations, Two-way ANOVAs, and Pearson's Correlation. The results of this study were as follows : 1. There were some significant differences by gender and self-care in daily experience. Girls spent more time in watching TV but less time in games than boys. And self-care children spent less time in learning and reading, but more time in game and TV watching. Also there was a interaction effect of learning experience by gender and self-care. 2. There were some significant differences by gender and self-care in school adjustment. Girls showed more positive school adjustment than boys. And children who are cared for by their parents showed more positive learning and school rule adjustment. 3. There were some significant relationship between children's daily experience and school adjustment.

The Factors of School Life Adjustment of Children in Multicultural Families (다문화 가정 아동의 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study explored the factors that influence school life adjustment of children in multicultural families. The subjects were 177 elementary school children of multicultural families from 1st to 6th grade in DC area. The major findings were as follows. 1) The interests in school and the whole-school adjustment were statistically different according to gender of children in multicultural families, family types 2) There were positive correlations among multicultural adjustment, social supports, and school life adjustment. 3) Of all variables, teachers' supports had the greatest influence on the interests in school and the whole-school adjustment, but friends' supports had the greatest influence on compliance of school rules. This study suggests that various efforts from multi levels, such as schools, teachers, and peer groups, for school life adjustment of children in multicultural families.

A study on the Effects of Parenting Attitudes on School Adjustment in Middle School Students (융합적 부모양육태도가 중학생의 학교적응에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze how effects of parental monitoring, parental affection, inconsistency in parenting attitudes on adolescents' school adjustment and intervention to help adolescents school adjustment. Korea Youth Policy Institute to achieve the research objectives, 'Korea Child Youth Panel Survey'(KCYPS 2010) using data from the First year 1 data were analyzed by Descriptive Statistic, t-Testing, ANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of the study are as follows. parenting attitudes were an independent variable having a partially significant effect on middle school students' school adjustment. As a results, The level of parental monitoring and affection are high, the level of middle school students' school adjustment gets higher. On the contrary, the level of parents' inconsistency are high, the level of middle school students' school adjustment gets lower. Therefore, it is necessary to research various options to develop promoting positive parenting attitude in order to increase the level of the middle school student's school adjustment

Influence of Depression and Eating Disorder on College Adjustment in Female Freshmen (일개대학 여자신입생의 우울, 섭식장애가 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • The study was conducted to identify the influence of depression and eating disorder on college adjustment in female freshmen. Two hundred twenty one subjects completed a structured questionnaire in March to April 2016. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. The results of this study were as follows: college adjustment in female freshmen was 106.14, depression was 10.22, bulimia nervosa was 61.84, anorexia nervosa was 10.46. Depression (r=-0.409, p<.001) and bulimia nervosa(r=-0.133, p<.048) were negatively related with college adjustment and bulimia nervosa(r=0.391, p<.001) and anorexia nervosa(r=0.302, p<.001) were positively related with depression. Female freshmen with high depression and eating disorder had lower college adjustment. The results of this study suggest that it needs to do a screening test for depression and eating disorders, predict maladaptation and help their college adjustment in freshmen.

Personal types, Ego-resilience, and College Adaptation in Nursing and Health Care related Students (간호·보건계열 대학생의 성격유형, 자아탄력성 및 대학생활적응)

  • The aim of this study was to describe Enneagram personality types, ego-resilience and to investigate the effects of ego-resilience on college adaptation in nursing and health care related students. The subjects were 623 students in 1st and 2nd grade. The data were collected from October 7 to 23, 2014 and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, multiple regression with SPSS 19.0. A positive correlation was found ego-resilience and college adaptation with Enneagram personality types. Personality type 4 and 5 in Enneagram were the lowest level in ego-resilience and college adaptation. The strongest predictor of college adaptation was optimistic attitude in ego-resilience. Optimistic attitude, confidence, emotional control, and academic grades were explained 61.6% of the college adaptation based on multiple regression analysis. These findings indicate that it is necessary to increase ego-resilience according to Enneagram personality types for positive college adaptation.

The Effects of Self-Leadership, Humanity, and Resilience of Nursing Students on College Life Adaptation (간호대학생의 셀프리더십, 인성, 회복탄력성이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of nursing students' self-leadership, humanity, and resilience on college life adaptation. The subjects of this study were 190 freshmen from the Department of Nursing in C city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tset, ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression. As a result, the factors that have a significant influence on the college life adaptation were self-leadership, personality, resilience, school life satisfaction, and the number of friends. Humanity was the most influential factor(β=.659, p<.001) in college life adaptation, followed by self-leadership(β=.274, p=.001), and number of friends(β=.258, p=.003). The explanatory power of the model was 51.2%(F=40.72, p<.001). In addition, there was a high positive correlation between self-leadership, humanity, resilience and college life adaptation. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a program that can help college life adaptation by improving the personality and self-leadership of freshmen in nursing.

A Relationship of Learning flow and Dropout in Local University Students: The Mediating Effect of College Adaption (지방 사립대학교 재학생의 학습몰입과 학업중단과의 관계: 대학생활적응의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the mediation effect of college adaption for the relationship between learning flow and university dropout in local university. For this study, 281 university students in Chungbuk region were applied to assess the mediation effect of college adaption for learning flow and university dropout by using confirmatory factor analysis, hierarchical multiple regression of Baron and Kenny, and Sobel test. The results show that more learning flow tended to have more difficultly in university dropout, and it was founded that academic and social adjustment for university adaption(mediator) partially mediated the influence of learning flow (independent variable) on univeristy dropout (dependent variable), institutional adjustment was fully mediated, and personal-emotional adjustment was no mediation effect. Based on the results of this study, we suggest a implication to decrease university dropout through increasing learning flow and university adaption.
