  • This study examines the differences in children's reading comprehension and satisfaction of storybooks according to a type of medium(paper and multimedia e-books). Six different storybooks were used and 85 children participated. Each child read a paper book and an e-book(both are different books). The study results showed that overall, the type of medium did not significantly affect the children's reading comprehension of all six storybooks: for two storybooks, some comprehension scores of paper books were higher than those of e-books, on the other hand, some comprehension scores of e-books were higher than those of paper books. Satisfaction scores of paper books are a little bit higher that those of e-books, although resulting in no statistically significant difference between two types. In addition, the study suggested that the amount of annual readings is positively related to improving children's composition ability and information acquisition ability. Finally, we proposed how to promote the use of e-books in the school library environments in terms of its usability and management policies.

We collected 761 survey responses from high school students and conducted multiple regression analysis to examine the relationships between the two variables. The findings show that (1) students' information search skills affect their pursuit of truth, openness, inquiring mind, and objectivity, (2) the information analytic skills influence the levels of pursuit of truth, openness, and objectivity, (3) the information presentation and delivery skills affect the levels of inquiring mind, organization, and self-trust, and, (4) the information evaluation skills influence the levels of pursuit of truth, openness, inquiring mind, organization, objectivity, and self-trust. However, students' synthesis and application skills of students did not affect their critical thinking dispositions. To sum up, we observed the influence of information literacy skills on critical thinking dispositions. The results of this study provide foundations for maintaining and developing information literacy instructions in school libraries.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between personal traits and information behavior theoretically. Personal traits are often represented by "major type of personality found in an ethnic group or society" and measured by both degrees of affection and dependency in this study. In turn, information behavior is used to include unique features in information needs, information seeking, information source preference, and information searching pattern in library and internet. The data was collected through a survey with 162 college freshmen, and analyzed for both frequency test and Chi-square test. The major research result shows that dependency rather than affection has a statistically meaningful relation with information behavior, in particular, information needs and source preference. Also made are several methodological suggestions for further research.
