To achieve the dental health of children and adolescents which is the objective of the pediatric dentistry, the role of the public service should be increased. The basis of the public service is established by many laws of which the Dental Health Law is most important. The percentages of primary schools that had the school dental health clinic, that implemented the fluoride rinsing program, and that implemented the group toothbrushing after lunch were 7.2%, 57.5%, and 46.9%, respectively, and the percentages of primary school children that received the dental health education and that received the fissure sealing were 48.0% and 12.4%, respectively(2006). About 42% of infants and preschool children from 0 to 6 years received preventive dental care in the last one year, at the nursery or kindergarten(18%) or at the health center(1%)(2005). The percentage of the health centers that implemented water fluoridation was 11.3%, and the percentage of the population who drank the fluoridated water was 5.7%(2006). It was suggested that the school dental health administration should be unified, that dental health teachers should be employed, and that the comprehensive dental health care should be supplied to all the children and adolescents through the circuit school dentists and the school dental hospitals in the long term. Also, the dentist in charge system for the children and adolescent was suggested.
The aim of this study was to confirm the effectiveness of learner-centered teaching models to reduce the dental anxiety. 18 children with age of 10 at the case group and 22 children with age of 10 at the control group was completed. Children from case group were participated in learner-centered oral health education, while those from control group were participated in instructor-led oral health education. Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) at each groups were measured before oral health education, after then, oral health education of two types at each groups were separately conducted during 1-hour, 2 times. Learner-centered oral health education adapted the systematic desensitization (Tell-Show-Do) was conducted for case groups. Instructor-led oral health education was performed by using the presentation file (PPT). The change of Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) were compare between case and control groups to evaluate the effect of learner-centered teaching type. After oral health education, DAS of the case and control groups at the baseline were 9.61 and 11.14, respectively, and the average DAS decline of case and control groups after oral health education were 2.48 and 0.55, respectively. These findings show that a learner-centered teaching type is an effective oral health program to reduce of dental anxiety in childhood.
This study is to seek a method to alleviate fear of dental treatment among college students. Research objects are students in public health department and those in other departments on. B University located in area A from April 5, 2017 to April 12, 2017. They were provided with education, and given two surveys before and after the education. The survey data were analyzed with the SPSS 19.0 program using T-test. The findings of the analysis are as follows. After the education, fear of dental treatment was reduced more among students in the public Health Department than among those in other departments. After education on dental treatment, there were greater changes in oral health among students in non-public health departments than those in the Public Health Department. There were grater changes in oral health among students in the Public Health Department than those in other departments. It is necessary to cultivate dental technicians through efficient and professional education, and those dental technicians should serve to reduce fear of dental care among the people, and change consciousness on such treatments. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop efficient education programs to reduce fear and increase the consciousness of dental health among people, and make people not afraid of coming to dental clinic.
The aim of this study was a comparative study on the oral health behaviors of Health-Related and Health-Unrelated Majors in school. This cross-sectional study included 2,788 students(1,536 males and 1,252 females)(670 Health-Related Majors and 2,119 Health-Unrelated Majors). A self-administered questionnaire was distributed. The proportion of toothbrushes portable according to the majors were as follows: health-related majors 473(70.6%) from 670 students and health-unrelated majors 770(36.4%) from 2,118 students. And, oral health behaviors(tooth brushing in school, use of dental floss or interdental brushes and after drinking of tooth) were better in carrying a toothbrush group than no-carrying group. The above-mentioned findings showed more intensive oral-health education should be provided for health-related and health-unrelated majors college students to promote their oral health state.
The purpose of this study was to explore some of the right directions for school dental-health education, by examining nursing students' knowledge on and attitude to the two major oral diseases in our country, dental caries and periodontal disease, as they will take charge of dental-health education and care for children in school dental-health center as sole expert health personnels after graduation. As a result of making an analysis of their knowledge and attitude, the following findings were acquired: (1) The students investigated perceived their oral cavity to tend to be healthy(36.8%) or in moderate situation(36.3%), although they had a subjective symptom for hot or cold food. (2) They thought dental caries is attributed to poor dental hygiene care(90.4%). Among them, 94.1% found toothbrushing effective for the prevention of dental caries, but just 40.2% agreed that toothbrush should be straight. (3) Those who considered fluoride effective for dental caries prevention thought the best way to use fluoride is taking fluoride-containing tap water(2.00). The second best way was fluoride mouth rinse(2.40), followed by the topical application of fluoride(2.70), use of fluoride dentifrice, and intake of fluoride(4.30) in the order named. (4) The regular examination and toothbrushing were mentioned as a way to prevent dental caries, but just toothbrushing was put in action for dental health. So their knowledge and actual attitude weren't the same. (5) They brushed their teeth for oral health(94.3%). Toothbrushing was done after breakfast(71.9%) or before bedtime(65.8%). Just 40.3% performed toothbrushing after lunch. That was implemented twice(35.7%) or three times(37.6%) a day. (6) Out of those who pointed out toothbrushing as a way to prevent periodontal diseases(84.7%), the effect of toothbrushing on the prevention of periodontitis wasn't supported by 7.1% of those who completed the course of study for the teaching profession and by 17.0% of the others who didn't. The two groups weren't of the same opinion. The above-mentioned findings suggest that the dental knowledge of the nursing students wasn't good enough to be properly responsible for school children's dental health care. In particular, there was a gap between knowledge and attitude. To improve children's poor dental health and help their oral cavity stay healthy, there is a need to activate school dental-health center, which is now in model operation, and to make the most of dental hygienists, who are educated to be a dental-health specialist, for more successful dental-health care for school children.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze level of dental health knowledge and behavior in elementary student, school health educators should encourage students to have continuous dental care habits for lifelong dental health with practical education. Methods: The subjects in this study were 490 students of four-year, fifth-year and sixth-year from elementary school in Daegu areas. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 26, June to 27, June 2006. Collected data were analyzed into frequency and Chi-square test using Spss 10.0 program. Result: Level of dental health knowledge were high as 57.8% in high groups, dental health behavior were high as twice a day in toothbrushing, over three times in visiting frequency of dental clinic for one years and once time of a day in intake frequency of cariogenic food. dental health knowledge by an academic years and sex were significant difference all of four-year, fifth-year and sixth-year. dental health behavior by an academic years and sex were significant difference in visiting frequency of dental clinic for one years and in intake frequency of cariogenic food by an academic years, male and female were significant difference in toothbrushing of a day. relationships of dental health knowledge and behavior were significant difference in intake frequency of cariogenic food.
The purpose of this study was to compare the oral health education effect and the satisfaction about the method between SDL and CCI on elementary school students. Method: The subjects of this study were 233 elementary school students in fourth grade (male: 56%, female: 44%) who attended two different elementary schools in Wonju Gangwon-do. They are divided into two groups and instructed by different method of the oral health education, SDL (Self-Directed Learning) and CCI (Conventional Classroom Instruction). The survey was conducted three times, preeducation, just after the education and one week after education. Collected data were analyzed into Chi-square test, Independent t-test and Repeated measure ANOVA using SPSS 12.0 K program. Result: 1. Changes of oral health knowledge: After the education, the average score of the oral health knowledge went up significantly in both groups. 2. Changes of oral health behavior: After the education, the average score of the oral health behavior rose up significantly in both groups and especially just after education, SDL group was recorded higher average score than CCI group. 3. Satisfaction: In both groups, the satisfaction rates about the education method were high (SDL: 88.9%, CCI: 99.1%). The main reason of satisfaction in SDL group was that the students were interested in the method of the education and the main reason of dissatisfaction was that they could not ask a question to the educator.
About 380 dental hygienists who were working in public health centers in 2004 joined this study with questionnaires about the evaluation of job training programs regarding oral health care. The findings are as follows. 1. As for the general characteristics of subjects including location, age and career, the dental hygienists in Public Health Subcenters outnumbered the dental hygienists in Public Health Centers, as the former accounted for 61.1 and the latter 35.3 percent. And the dental hygienists in their 36~40s made up the largest age group. The group in their 11~15 years career revealed 48.4, over 16 years career 35.7, under 10 years career group 15.9 percent, respectively. 2. The portion of certification in the respondents was 28.9 percent, as compared to the 71.1percent of non-certification. The major reasons of non-certification were not-applying(44.6%), participation rejected (29.3%). 3. Freqently requested curriculums were school based oral health program(4.42, the highest by Linkert 5 point scale), followed by oral health education(4.41), public oral health services for the toddler and for the elderly(4.04), for the disabled(3.92), oral health planning evaluation(3.85) and oral health survey& investigation(3.69). The gap between Dental hygienists at Public Health Center and Public Health Subcenter was statistically significant different(p < 0.001) in oral health survey& investigation and oral health planning evaluation.

Objectives: This study was performed in order to figure out oral health knowledge level of home room teachers of elementary schools in Daegu area. This study was conducted from March through May 2008. Methodology: A total of three hundred and ten (43 male teachers and 267 female teachers) home room teachers of elementary schools were surveyed. The collected data were analyzed by X2 test and one way ANOVA test by using SPSS 11.0 program. Results: Most oral health knowledge was obtained from dental clinics (45.8%) and mass media and books (40.0%). Many respondents reported that the main purpose of oral hygiene was prevention of periodontal diseases. The highest number of respondents reported that fluoridated tooth paste was the best for fluoride effects on teeth. 56.7% of the respondents said that they visited periodically dental clinics for dental caries prevention. The respondents did not have much knowledge about the importance of fluoride in dental caries. Many respondents did not know that the plaque is the main cause of periodontal diseases. Conclusion: Effective oral health education program should be prepared for the elementary school teachers because their knowledge levels of oral health is not sufficient for students.
