  • The aim of this study was to recognize guardians' desire and awareness on sedation, and to guide guardians' satisfaction and cooperation. Followings are the conclusion : 1. Information supply about conscious sedation were restrictive and insufficient. 2. Both first-visit guardians and guardians of sedated patients were interested in decrease of dental fear. 3. Both first-visit guardians and guardians of sedated patients were satisfied with psychological improvement better than behavior improvement. Therefore, decrease of patients'ear and anxiety was essential. 4. Both first-visit guardians and guardians of sedated patients didn't recognize accurate safety of conscious sedation.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between conscious sedation, a moderate sedation method used to reduce dental fear, and anxiety. Methods: The previously developed modified dental anxiety investigation scale (MDAS) and dental fear investigation scale (DFS) were investigated using a self-administered survey for adults aged 19 to 65 years old who visited a dental clinic located in Daegu City from April to November 2020. Those who met the ASA Recommendation Level 1 to 2 were the subjects of this study. The participants were evaluated using the sedation severity rating scale (OAA/S) during the implementation of conscious sedation. A lot of 106 valid questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS. Results: Dental fear and anxiety decreased significantly after dental care with conscious sedation. Dental fear after dental care accompanied by conscious sedation was statistically significant in females, those under the age of 40, those with a bachelor's degree or higher, and those who weighed 60 kg or less. Conclusions: Dental care using conscious sedation was found to have an effect on the reduction of dental fear after the dental procedure. Dental fear can occur in people of all ages, and, regardless of the individual's general and physical characteristics, conscious calming is considered an effective intervention for dental fear in all adults.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of conscious sedation on pain and anxiety of patients in implant surgery. A total of 95 patients who underwent implant surgery were included in the study. In this study, the patient's anxiety and pain to evaluate the pre-operative Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), during-operative Pain Question (PQ), post-operative (Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire [SF-MPQ], VAS) was used for tools such as questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the chi-squire, independent-samples t-test, multiple linear regression analysis. As a result, the pain reduction was significantly different between the sedative dental treatment and non-sedative dental treatment (p<0.05). The finding of the study multiple linear regression analysis showed that operation time, implant surgery experience, gender, age, operation form and Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) with factors that affect the pain and anxiety (p<0.05). According to the results of the study, considered to be necessary to develop intervention strategies effective using the PCS when managing pain and anxiety of behavior management of this implant patient. Thus, it is advised to provide necessary practical guidelines and dental utilization behaviors on patients with conscious sedation.

  • We analyzed systematically particle growth in the pulsed $SiH_4$ plasmas by a numerical method and investigated the effects of pulse modulations (pulse frequencies, duty ratios) on the particle growth. We considered effects of particle charging on the particle growth by coagulation during plasma-on. During plasma-on ($t_{on}$), the particle size distribution in plasma reactor becomes bimodal (small sized and large sized particles groups). During plasma-off ($t_{off}$), there is a single mode of large sized particles which is widely dispersed in the particle size distribution. During plasma on, the large sized particles grows more quickly by fast coagulation between small and large sized particles than during plasma-off. As the pulse frequency decreases, or as the duty ratio increases, $t_{on}$ increases and the large sized particles grow faster. On the basis of these results, the pulsed plasma process can be a good method to suppress efficiently the generation and growth of particles in $SiH_4$ PCVD process. This systematical analysis can be applied to design a pulsed plasma process for the preparation of high quality thin films.

  • Midazolam is known to produce sedation as well as amnesia. Many articles reported about anterograde amnesia, but it is rare that articles about retrograde amnesia. The 61-year-old female patient (64 kg, 154 cm, ASA physical status I) was administered 3.02 mg (0.047 mg/kg) of midazolam during 2 hours. The patient's Modified Observer's Assesment of Alertness/Sedation Scale was 4. The patient who had been consciously sedated with midazolam, exhibited profound amnesia, both anterograde and retrograde after implantation. The patient's memory restoration was begun after 6 hours.

  • Recently, sedation is routinely used in children who lacked cooperation in pediatric dental clinics. The purpose of this study is to analyze dental treatment cases in department of pediatric dentistry at Dankook University Dental Hospital associating with sedation during 5 years. From January 2011 to December 2015, information about dental treatment cases in department of pediatric dentistry was collected and reviewed. The information gathered included patient gender, age, sedation type, sedative agents, date of operation, and type of procedure. The proportion of treatment cases with conscious sedation for total treatment cases continued to decline until 2014. On the other hand, the incidence of general anesthesia increased gradually. The frequency of midazolam administration and nitrous oxide inhalation sedation increased recently. The use of conscious sedation was significantly decreased when the age of patient was 3 years or older. The frequency of general anesthesia was similar in all age groups. There was a tendency to perform treatment with deeper sedation when the patient was male than female, and when the pulp treatment was performed together with the restorative treatment than not performed. The frequency of re-treatment within 90 days after restoration treatment decreased as the depth of sedation increased.
