A method is developed for solving the elastica of cantilever beam subjected to a tip point load and uniform load. The Bernoulli-Euler differential equation of deflected beam is used. The Runge-Kutta method and the Regula Falsi method are used to perform the integration of the differential eqution and to determine the horizontal deflection, respectively. The horizontal and vertical deflections of the free end, and the free-end rotations are calculated for a range of parameters representing variations in tip point load and uniform load. All results are presented in nondimensional forms. And some typical elastic are also presented.
The number of old concrete structure which needs to be strengthened has been increased. The repair and strengthening methods have to be determined based on the current status of the structure. Consequently the estimation method for the damage status of the structure has been desperately needed, but no studies have been tried to use the crack and deflection characteristics to estimate the damage status. In this study, the crack characteristics depending on load level were measured and analysed. The crack characteristics observed from 11 samples were compared with damage status, and load level, The crack characteristics examined in this study include crack number, crack length, crack range, crack interval, maximum crack length, crack area, and average crack length. The deflections were normalized based on yield deflection, and the relationship between the relative deflection and the standardized crack characteristics were compared. Among the crack characteristics, crack interval, crack area, crack range, and maximum crack length, have been showed a close relationship to the relative deflection. Therefore, if such crack characteristics are evaluated, the maximum load applied to the structure is believed to be estimated. if additional parameters such as size of specimen, strength of concrete and steel, and steel ratio are studied, the damage status of structure can be estimated more accurately.

The member deflection is one of the most important considerations for the serviceability evaluation of reinforced concrete (RC) structures, and the concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for its estimation. However, the actual service load applied on an existing RC beam may not be easily obtained, for which the estimation of beam deflection by existing methods can be difficult to obtain. Therefore, based on the correlation between cracks and deflection in a RC beam, this study proposed a method to estimate the deflection of RC beams directly from the condition of cracks not using the actual loads acting on the member as its input data. The proposed method extensively utilized the relationships among sums of crack widths, average strains, and curvatures, and modification factors obtained from regression analysis were also introduced to improve its accuracy. The deflections of members were successfully estimated by the proposed method independent from applied loads, which was also easy to apply compared to the existing methods based on the effective moment of inertia.

A new measuring technique for the rigidities of stiffened plated is presented. The equations relating the rigidities of stiffened plates and the natural frequencies of a cantilever plate are derived and the rigidities are determined using the measured natural frequencies of the plate. The static deflection tests are conducted for checking the validity of this method. For unstiffened plates the measured rigidities are good agreement with the theoretical values and the experimental results of deflection tests. In the case of stiffened plates the measured rigidities closely matched with the results of deflection tests. It has been also demonstrated that this measuring technique can be utilized in determining the rigidities of arbitrarily stiffened plates.

Experimental and analytical studies are performed on the mechanical behavior of concrete-filled tubular(CFT) truss girders for different f/L ratios. Bending tests are conducted on two CFT truss girder specimens to determine fundamental structural characteristics such as the strength and deformation properties. Nonlinear material models for CFT members subjected to an axial compressive force are compared in this paper by using the nonlinear finite element program, ABAQUS. Previous researchers have proposed several nonlinear stress-strain models of confined concrete. In this study, the nonlinear analyses are performed applying several stress-strain models for confined concrete proposed by Mander, Sakino, Han, Susantha and Ellobody, and the results are compared with the experimental results in terms of load-deflection and load-strain relationships. Based on the comparisons of the load-deflection relationships, the models proposed by Mander and Susantha provide a maximum load about 12.0~13.8% higher and that by Sakino gives a maximum load about 7.6% higher than the experimental results. The models proposed by Han and Ellobody give a maximum load only about 0.2~1.2% higher than the test results, showing the best agreement among the proposed stress-strain models. However, the load-strain relations predicted by the existing models generally provide conservative results exhibiting larger strains than the experimental data.

The deflections of members were successfully estimated by the proposed method independent from applied loads, which was also easy to apply compared to the existing methods based on the effective moment of inertia. This new method, however, has limitations in its applicability in that it is less accurate than the existing methods because the magnitude of acting load is not involved in the estimation process of member deflection, and that it requires the measurement of crack widths along the whole length of a member.

The concrete structural design provisions in Korea are based on ultimate strength design. Up to service load stage, it is assumed a linear stress-strain relation, but there is no stress-strain relationship for a concrete material from service load stage to limat state. According to the current provisions, an independent method is provided for the each calculation of deflection and crack width. In EC2 provisions based on limit state design, however, a stress-strain relationship of concrete is provided. Thereby, it is able to calculate a strength as well as a deflection directly from concrete stress-strain relationship. In this paper the moment-curvature relationship is directly calculated from a material law using equilibrium and compatibility conditions. Then strength and deflection are formulated. These results are compared with the values from the current provisions in Korea. From the results, the deflection based on a moment-curvature relationship is well agreed with experimental results and it is appeared that the deflection after the yielding of steel is also possible.

Following the previous paper, the results of test are further presented. As partially prestressed concrete members permit cracks under the service state, deflection and crack control of partially prestressed concrete members is more important than that of reinforced or fully prestressed concrete members. By the test results of load-deflection relation, it can be shown that prestressing ratio significantly affects the behavior of partially prestressed concrete beams. Deflection prediction formula of some codes are tried, and test results are compared with various fomulae of crack spacing and crack width.

Based on limited number of tests on reinforced wood beams using polymer mortar in this study, following conclusions were drawn ; 1.Reinforcing compression side of wood beam using polymer mortar was effective in reducing deflection. 2.By increasing thickness of polymer mortar, effective beam stiffness was improved, but energy absorption was reduced. 3.Polymer mortar reinforcement improved compressive strength and reduced strain in compression side of the beam. Therefore, it was possible to change the failure mode from by compression in control beam to by tension in composite beams. 4.The composite beams that have more than 2cm of polymer mortar layer did not perform well because a strain redistribution and separation of meterials at interface were induced in moment span. 5.To maximize the load carrying capacity of composite beam, it is necessary to make polymer mortar and wood behave together without failing at interface. To do this, it is needed to use a polymer mortar which has high strength with such elastic modulus that is closer to elastic modulus of wood. otherwise, it is recommended to use shear connectors at interface to prevent separation of materials under ultimate load.
