  • Recently, as the concrete structures are becoming bigger, higher, longer and more special, high strength concrete is demanded. But the fracture behavior of high strength concrete is shown more brittle than that of the normal strength concrete. Therefore, in order to improve the brittle fracture behavior and crack propagation resistance, ACI Committee363 has been recommend the use of fiber reinforced concrete which showed superior property against the crack propagation resistance. On the other hand, bridges, concrete pavements and railroads etc. have been exposed to the repetition loading at least several million times during the service life. Therefore, fatigue load is dominantly most of all, but it is very difficult to estimate the suitable fatigue strength calculated by fatigue load. In this research, in order to examine the fatigue behavior of hybrid fiber reinforced high strength concrete, the static and fatigue tests were carried out. And from these results, it was estimated the fatigue strength of hybrid fiber reinforced high strength concrete.

  • Tribological properties of fiber composite materials were measured and wear resistant hybrid structure was proposed based upon the understanding of tribological behavior of the composite materials. Unidirectional composites with glass fibers, carbon fibers, and aramid fibers were tested for tribological properties in order to propose a wear resistant hybrid structure. Hybrid composites which contain carbon and aramid fibers were prepared, the specimens were sliced by a water-jet cutter, and friction and wear properties were measured. An experimental set-up was designed and built for the friction and wear test of the composite specimens. Unidirectional fiber composite and hybrid composite specimens were tested to evaluated the tribological behavior for biomimetic applications. It is observed that the friction and wear behavior of fiber composites depends upon fiber orientation, sliding speed, and type of reinforcing fibers.

  • This paper concerns the flexural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) beams with compressive strength of 150 MPa. It presents experimental research results of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC beams with steel fiber content of 1.5% by volume and steel reinforcement ratio of less than 0.02. This study aims at investigating of compressive and tensile behavior of UHPC to perform a reasonable prediction for flexural capacity of UHPC beams. Tensile behavior modeling was performed using load-crack mouth opening displacement relationship obtained from bending test. The experimental results show that steel fiber-reinforced UHPC is in favor of cracking resistance and ductility of beams. The ductility indices range from 1.6 to 3.0, which means high ductility of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC. Test results and numerical analysis results for the moment-curvature relationship are compared. Though the numerical analysis results for the bending capacity of the UHPC beam without rebar is larger than test result, the overall comparative results show that the bending capacity of steel fiber-reinforced UHPC beams with compressive strength of 150 MPa can be predicted by using the established method in this paper.

  • High Performance Fiber-reinforced Cement Composite (HPFRCC) shows the multiple crack and damage tolerance capacity due to the interfacial bonding of the fibers to the cement matrix. For practical application, it is needed to investigate the fractural behavior of HPFRCC and understand the micro-mechanism of cement matrix with reinforcing fiber. This study is devoted to the investigation of the AE signals in HPFRCC under monotonic and cyclic uniaxial compressive loading, and total four series were tested. The major experimental parameters include the type and volume fraction of fiber (PE, PVA, SC), the hybrid type and loading pattern. The test results showed that the damage progress by compressive behavior of the HPFRCC is a characteristic for the hybrid fiber type and volume fraction. It is found from acoustic emission (AE) parameter value, that the second and third compressive load cycles resulted in successive decrease of the amplitude as compared with the first compressive load cycle. Also, the AE Kaiser effect existed in HPFRCC specimens up to 80% of its ultimate strength. These observations suggested that the AE Kaiser effect has good potential to be used as a new tool to monitor the loading history of HPFRCC.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to improve the seismic performance of reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joint regions using replacing recycled coarse aggregate with hybrid fiber (steel fiber+PVA fiber) in existing reinforced concrete building. Therefore it was constructed and tested seven specimens retrofitting the beam-column joint regions using such retrofitting materials. Specimens, designed by retrofitting the beam-column joint regions of reinforced concrete building, were showed the stable failure mode and increase of load-carrying capacity due to the effect of crack control at the times of initial loading and bridge of retrofitting hybrid fiber during testing. Specimens BCJGPSR series, designed by the retrofitting of replacing recycled coarse aggregate with hybrid fiber in reinforecd beam-column joint regions were increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 1.01~1.04 times and its energy dissipation capacity by 1.06~1.29 times in comparison with standard specimen BCJS. Also, specimen $BCJGPSR_1$ were increased its energy dissipation capacity by 1.33~1.65 times in comparison with specimens BCJS, BCJP and BCJGPR series for a displacement ductility of 9.

  • This paper concerns the flexural behavior of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams. It presents experimental research results of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC with steel fiber content of 1.5% by volume and steel reinforcement ratio of less than 0.02. This study aims at providing realistic information about UHPC beams in bending in order to establish a reasonable prediction model for flexural resistance in structural code in the future. The experimental results show that hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC is in favor of cracking resistance and ductility of beams. The ductility indices range through 9.2 to 15.2, which means high ductility of UHPC. Also, the flexural capacity of beam which contains stirrups in pure bending zone is similar to that of beam which does not contain stirrups in pure bending zone. This result represents that the flexural capacity is not affected by the presence of stirrups whose spacing is 150 mm in bending zone.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a Hybrid Fiber-reinforced High Strength Lightweight Cementitious Composite (HFSLCC) incorporated with lightweight filler and hybrid fibers for lightness and high ductility. Optimal ingredients and mixture proportion were determined on the basis of the micromechanical analysis and the steady-state cracking theory considering the fracture characteristics of matrix and the interfacial properties between fibers and matrix. Then 4 mixture proportions were determined according to the type and amount of fibers and the experiment was performed to evaluate the mechanical performance of those. The HFSLCC showed 3% of tensile strain, 4.2MPa of ultimate tensile stress, 57MPa of compressive strength and $1,660kg/m^3$ of bulk density. The mechanical performance of HFSLCC incorporated with PVA fibers of 1.0 Vol.% and PE fibers of 0.5 Vol.% is similar to those of the HFSLCC incorporated with fibers of 2.0 Vol.%.

  • In this study, the tensile properties of single and hybrid fiber reinforced cement composite according to strain rate was evaluated. Experimental results, in the strain rate 10-6/s, fiber reinforced cement composite showed improved of tensile strength and decrease of strain at peak stress as SSF volume content increased. In the strain rate 101/s, the single and hybrid reinforced cement composite's tensile properties are improved, because of the improved bond strength between the fiber and matrix. And hybrid fiber reinforced cement composite showed high energy absorption capacity, because the SSF prevented the cracking and fracture of the surrounding matrix when during the HSF pull-out.
