Change in Taxonomic Composition of Phytoplankton and Environmental Factors after Construction of Dike in Yeongsan River Estuary (하구언 건설 전.후의 영산강 하구 식물플랑크톤 군집 및 환경 변화)

  • The Yeongsan River estuary, located in the south west coast, was a typical estuary before a dike was constructed in December 1981. After the construction, the water quality and plankton communities are expected to change. We investigated the change of phytoplankton community and environmental properties in the Yeongsan River estuary by comparing the data collected recently with the results reported before and/or shortly after the construction. Concentrations of $NH_4$-N were significantly increased in the freshwater zone. Concentrations of DO at the surface, $NO_2+NO_3$ and $NH_4$-N were increased while the concentrations of $PO_4$ at the surface were decreased in the seawater zone. The number of green algae species was decreased in the freshwater zone. The number of diatom species was decreased while the numbers of green algae and dinoflagellates were increased in the seawater zone. This study can provide information for better management of the Yeongsan River estuary since no comparison study has been documented between the phytoplankton community before and after the construction of the dike in the estuary.

  • Since the late 1990s, a nationwide movement against dam and river-mouth weir plans in Japan has been promoted with a movement against a river-mouth weir for the Nagara river(長良川). This movement has been a catalyst for institutional frameworks on the central government's dam and river-mouth weir plans. Subsequently, water resource and river management policies have entered a new phase, with provinces governors's participation in "Statements on withdrawal from dam and river-mouth weir" as well as the seizing of power by the Democratic Party. However, problems with dams and river-mouth weirs have been confused due to poor countermeasures from the Democratic Party and to the Liberal Democratic Party(LDP)'s return to power. The fundamental causes on this situation are the non-establishment of fiscal norms for public projects and the rigidity of the water-right allocation system in Jananese policy-making processes. To successfully settle future policy on water resources and rivers, the first priority is to prepare specific institutional frameworks on finance of public projects and to organize a practical policy coordination system among government organizations. These policy tasks provide implications for river and water management policy in Korea.

  • 금강은 전라북도 진안에서부터 군산 하구에 이르는 남한 4대강의 하나로써, 총 연장이 약 400km에 이르며, 집수 면적은 약 9,880$\textrm{km}^2$이다. 금강 하구에는 1988년 군산과 장항을 연결하는 총 1,841m의 금강 하구언이 건설되었다. 그러나 금강 하구언은 하구폭의 절반에 해당하는 수문은 개방해 두었다가, 1994년 8월에 배수 갑문을 닫았으며, 이후로 갑문 작동이 가동되어 산업 용수의 확보와 더불어 홍수 조절을 하게되었다(Yang and Hur, 1998). (중략)

Physical Environment Changes in the Keum River Estuary by the Dyke Gate Operation: I. Mean Sea Level and Tide (하구언 수문작동으로 인한 금강 하구역의 물리적 환경변화: I. 평균해수면과 조석)

  • Analyzing the tide data taken at Kunsan inner and Outer ports, non-tidal and mean sea level and harmonic constants of major constituents are investigated to examine the effects of the dyke gate operation on the sea level change in Keum River estuary. Non-tidal and annual mean sea levels decrease at Kunsan Inner and Outer ports after the dyke gate operation, especially showing an abrupt drop of non-tidal sea level at Kunsan Inner port. This non-tidal sea level drop results in the mean sea level gradient change between the inner and outer port, which can be mainly explained in terms of the decrease of river discharge from the dyke. Amplitudes of the $M_2$ and $S_2$ tides at the Inner port increase after the dyke gate operation, showing an abrupt jump, and phases of both tides slightly decrease. Amplitude and phase of the $K_1$ and $O_1$ tides show slight changes after the dyke gate operation. This significant change of semi diurnal tide amplitude is believed as a result of superposition of incident tidal wave and reflected tidal wave from the dyke.

  • 본 연구에서는 영산강 하구언 배수갑문의 개방으로 대량의 담수가 방류될 경우 목포항 인근해역의 해수유동 변화와 이에 수반되는 부유물질/염분 농도의 시공간적인 변화를 파악하기 위해 방류조건과 확산성분별로 12가지의 계산 시나리오를 구성하고 MIKE21의 해수유동(HD)모듈과 오염 확산(AD)모듈을 이용하여 하구언 방류의 영향을 살펴보았다. 해수유동 모의결과, 배수갑문과의 거리에 따라 방류조건별로 수위와 유속이 최대 144.5cm, 175.6cm/sec까지 상승하였다. 특히 청계만 수역에서는 방류시기에 낙조시 유속이 최대 68.8cm/sec까지 감소해 방류에 따른 수위상승으로 낙조시 해수유출이 지체되는 것으로 판단된다. 부유물질 확산모의 결과, 목포 기준검조소를 기준으로 목포항 내부수역은 원활한 해수순환이 이루어지지 않아 각종 오염원 유입시 외해로 쉽게 확산되거나 희석되지 못하고 계속 정체되는 것으로 나타나 항내 오염이 심각하게 우려되며, 특히 연속적인 담수 방류와 방류량의 크기가 내부수역의 부유물질 농도 감소에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 판단됨에 따라 방류량이 작고 연속 방류가 행해지지 않는 비우기시의 오염은 더욱 심해질 것으로 판단된다. 방류조건별 염분농도 역시 방류량이 크고, 연속적인 담수 방류가 행해질 경우 농도가도 크게 감소하며 확산면적도 증가하였다.

Analysis of Environmental Factors Affecting on the Physiological Characteristics of Heterotrophic Bacteria in Naktong River Estuary (낙동강 하구생태계의 환경변화에 따른 종속영양세균의 생리학적 특성)

  • Environmental parameters and physiological characteristics of heterotrophic bacterial isolates were compared by factor analysis to investigate the influences of river barrage construction on the ecosystem of Naktong River Estuary. Aftcr the construction of river barrage, the influence of seawater was no longer significant. ant1 the influences of nutrients loading were increased from 50.7% to 77.1% of the environmental variances before and after the construction, respectively. The interpretations of features of bacterial physiological characteristics were closely related to environmental parameters as the results of factor analysis. But. differing from the environmental variances. it was found that the halophilic feature was the third factor of bacterial characteristics after the construction of river barrage. This suggests that the stability of Naktong estuarine ecosystem and heterotrophic bacterial characteristics are not established till now.

  • 하구언과 방조제의 축조와 시기를 같이 하여 목포내항 부근의 만조시 수위가 크게 상승하여 목포시 저지대 곳곳에 침수문제를 야기시키고 있으며, 저조위는 하구언 건설 이전보다 낮아져 연안해운이 발달된 목포항에서 선박의 항해에 지장을 받는 등 이중의 고통을 받고 있는 실정이다. 이와 더불어 목포구의 조류속이 건설전에 비해 급격히 감소됨에 따라 외해수와 내해수의 해수교환이 여의치 않게 되었으며, 최근 크게 문제시되고 있는 영산호의 수질과 목포시의 폐수발생량을 감안하면 장차 목포항 인근의 해수오염이 크게 우려되는 실정이다. (중략)

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide basic data for construction methods of leakage pretaction for estuary barrien which is constructed to in take restoration water from irigative use and a river flow in its ultimate dsicharge to ward to sea, The water, accordingly, has reviewed the discrepancis between theories and experiments based on the hydraulic analysis of ground water through a series of sourveys on equi-patential line of seepage flow and a series of some experiments. apparently, however, the research results herein might reflect in some part not more than inference since those experiments are not conducted in a real foundation but from an indoor experiment or calculation, conclusion in brief are itemized here-under. 1. small-scale barrier require cut-off wall, which should reach the complete impereable layer, 2. Duplication barrier is provided effective in protection saline water seepage. 3. a barrier with broad crest might enable protection of massive seepage by fresh water lens formed from precipitation.

A Study on the Changes of the Molluscan and Crustacean Fauna after the Construction of the Naktong Estuary Barrage (낙동강 하구언 건설에 의한 연체동물상 및 갑각류상의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The materials of this study consist of both specimens and survey records of the mollusks and crustaceans which were obtained from 30 collection sites in the Naktong Estuary during Aug.-Nov., 1991. The mollusks and crustaceans collected and identified in this study are 31 and 50 species, respectively. Of these two species of mollusks and six species of crustaceans were newly recored in this area. Including the previous records, the occurrence and distribution of 63 molluscan species and 138 crustacean species were compared in eight zones, before and after the construction of the Naktong Estuary Barrage. During this investigation, only a few species of mollusks occurred in the northern freshwaters off the Barrage. The habitats for the intertidal species were greatly destructed along the eastern part of the UIsuk Is. and the riverside of Tadaep'o where the bank was recently constructed. The commercial bivalves including Corbicula fluminea and Ruditapes Philkippinarum were greatly decreased in number in all the eatuarine waters. A freshwater crab, Eriocheir japonicus, seems to be extinguished in the Naktong River and its neighbouring streams.
