The Modified ART1 Network using Multiresolution Mergence : Mixed Character Recognition (다중 해상도 병합을 이용한 수정된 적응 공명 이론 신경망: 혼합 문자 인식 적용)

  • As Information Technology growing, the character recognition application plays an important role in the ubiquitous environment. In this paper, we propose the Modified ART1 network using Multiresolution Mergence to the problems of the character recognition. The approach is based on the unsupervised neural network and multiresolution. In order to decrease noises and to increase the classification rate of the characters, we propose the multiresolution mergence strategy using both high resolution and low resolution information. Also, to maximize the effect of multiresolution mergence, we use a modified ART1 method with a different similarity measure. Our experimental results show that the classification rate of character is quite increased as well as the performance of the propose algorithm in conjunction with the similarity measure is improved comparing to the conventional ART1 algorithm in this application.

Middle School Students' Perceptions and Practice of Handwriting and Factors Affecting their Attitudes towards Handwriting (중학생의 필기에 대한 인식, 실태 및 필기태도에 영향을 미치는 요인들)

  • This study aimed to identify middle school students' perceptions and practices of handwriting, and factors affecting their attitudes towards handwriting. Data were collected by means of a survey targeting 346 students enrolled in 9 middle schools(Male=172, Female=172, Unknown=2, M=13.5 years old, SD= .94). Interviews, too, were conducted with 12 students in order to identify the students' perceptions of handwriting. The analyses of both survey and interview data revealed the following: (1) the majority of the interviewee students believed that handwriting is useful for memory and summarization so as to get a better school grade, including performance evaluations; (2) Many of the interviewee students were unsatisfied with their handwriting skills, giving higher scores to their peers' handwriting; (3) 45.7% of the students reported that mother was the one who taught them how to write for the first time; and 49.7% of them had no learning experience of taking notes; (4) Girls than boys and 1st graders than 2 or 3 graders showed more positive attitude towards handwriting; and (5) A multiple regression analysis showed that all the variables entered in the regression model, including sex, grade, affective attitude toward hands-on activities, physical abilities, time spent using a computer, and perceptions of Korean characters, had significant impacts on the students' attitudes towards handwriting.

Few-shot learning using the median prototype of the support set (Support set의 중앙값 prototype을 활용한 few-shot 학습)

  • Meta-learning is metacognition that instantly distinguishes between knowing and unknown. It is a learning method that adapts and solves new problems by self-learning with a small amount of data.A few-shot learning method is a type of meta-learning method that accurately predicts query data even with a very small support set. In this study, we propose a method to solve the limitations of the prototype created with the mean-point vector of each class. For this purpose, we use the few-shot learning method that created the prototype used in the few-shot learning method as the median prototype. For quantitative evaluation, a handwriting recognition dataset and mini-Imagenet dataset were used and compared with the existing method. Through the experimental results, it was confirmed that the performance was improved compared to the existing method.
