  • By using an actuator disk method based flow solver, aerodynamic analysis is carried out for a dual ducted fan aircraft, which is one of the VTOL compound aircrafts, and its associated ground effect is analyzed. The characteristics and accuracy of the solver for ground effect analysis is evaluated through a comparison with the results obtained from the sliding mesh technique. The aerodynamic performance and flow field characteristics with respect to the distance from the ground are analyzed. As the ground distance decreases, the fan thrust increases, but the deterioration of total normal force and hovering flight efficiency is identified owing to the decrease in the vertical force of the duct, fuselage, and wing. By examining the flow field in the bottom of the fuselage, the ground vortices and fountain flow generated by the interaction of the fan wake and ground are identified, and their influence on the aerodynamic performance is analyzed. The strength and characteristics of outwash with respect to the ground distance and azimuth direction are analyzed through comparison/examination of velocity profile. Influence of the ground effect with respect to collective pitch angle is also identified.

  • This paper focuses on the hover performance experiment of a small-scale single rotor in partial ground conditions. In this study, small-scale rotor blade rotating device and floor panel are used to include partial ground effect. Thrust and torque were measured with varying collective pitch angles at fixed rotor rotating speed. The overlap distance between rotor and ground is d, the rotor diameter is D. It was shown that the ground effects have little effect on the rotor performance until d/D is 0.25. Four blade rotor has more increased thrust and more reduced power than those of two blade rotor because of stronger ground effect. In addition, it was also found that the thrust increases as a collective pitch angle become smaller. Based on these experiment results, we deduced new empirical equation considered blade number and partial ground effect.

  • This paper proposes a novel watermarking algorithm that protects digital copyrights and is robust to attacks. Watermarks are embedded in the subband including the significant part of the signal such as a pitch. Generally, the subband containing the pitch has the biggest energy. In order to find this subband, wavelet packet transform is used to decompose the subbands and their energy are calculated. The signal of the selected subbands is transformed in frequency domain using FFT. The watermarks are embedded using QIM for samples higher than a certain threshold. The blind detection uses the Euclidean distance. The proposed method shows less than 5% BER in the audio watermark benchmarking.

  • This paper addresses a voice personality transformation algorithm which makes one person's voices sound as if another person's voices. In the proposed method, one person's voices are represented by LPC cepstrum, pitch period and speaking rate, the appropriate transformation rules for each Parameter are constructed. The Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) is used to model one speaker's LPC cepstrums and conditional probability is used to model the relationship between two speaker's LPC cepstrums. To obtain the parameters representing each probabilistic model. a Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation method is employed. The transformed LPC cepstrums are obtained by using a Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) criterion. Pitch period and speaking rate are used as the parameters for prosody transformation, which is implemented by using the ratio of the average values. The proposed method reveals the superior performance to the previous VQ-based method in subjective measures including average cepstrum distance reduction ratio and likelihood increasing ratio. In subjective test. we obtained almost the same correct identification ratio as the previous method and we also confirmed that high qualify transformed speech is obtained, which is due to the smoothly evolving spectral contours over time.

  • Many experimental and numerical researches for thin-walled carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel single shear bolted connections have been conducted and the modified design equations of ultimate strength were proposed. In this study, the tests of double shear bolted connections with bolt arrangements ($2{\times}1$, $2{\times}2$) and end distance parallel to the loading direction as main variables were performed. Specimens were planed with a constant dimension of edge distance perpendicular to the loading direction, bolt diameter, pitch and gauge like single shear bolted connections. The test results such as ultimate strength and fracture mode were compared with those of current design standards. Furthermore, modified block shear equations for double shear bolted connections were suggested.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient automatic control method for the collision avoidance of drones. In general, the drones are controlled by transmitting to the flight control (FC) module the received PWM signals transmitted from a RC controller which transduce movements of the knob into PWM signal. We implemented the collision avoidance module in-between receiver and FC module to monitor and change the throttle, pitch and roll control signals to avoid drone collision. In order to avoid the collision, a LiDAR distance sensor and a servo-motor are installed and periodically measure the obstacle distance within -45 degrees from 45 degrees in flight direction. If the collision is predicted, the received PWM signal is changed and transmitted to the FC module to prevent the collision. We applied our proposed method to a hexacopter and the experimental results show that the safety is improved because it can prevent the collision caused by the inadvertency or inexperienced maneuver.

  • Although Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have gained great popularity in computer vision and related fields, generating audio signals independently has yet to be presented. Unlike images, an audio signal is a sampled signal consisting of discrete samples, so it is not easy to learn the signals using CNN architectures, which is widely used in image generation tasks. In order to overcome this difficulty, GAN researchers proposed a strategy of applying time-frequency representations of audio to existing image-generating GANs. Following this strategy, we propose an improved method for increasing the fidelity of synthesized audio signals generated by using GANs. Our method is demonstrated on a public speech dataset, and evaluated by Fréchet Inception Distance (FID). When employing our method, the FID showed 10.504, but 11.973 as for the existing state of the art method (lower FID indicates better fidelity).

  • The effect of finger joint location and distance from joint to joint one another on 3 point mid-concentration bending strength properties was investigated in this experiment. Resorcinol-phenol formaldehyde (RPF) and aqueous vinyl urethane (AVU) was used to domestic Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc and imported Picea sitchensis Carr. that have been cut to different width of 0.15 mm between finger tip and root width and the distance from loading point to finger joint was 0, 30, 40, 50, 60 mm. The effect was not found on the location and distance of finger joint for bending modulus of elasticity, while the efficiency of bending strength property increased proportionally as the location of finger joint from the load point and the distance between finger joint increased. No influence was shown by finger joint location and distance beyond 3 times of specimen thickness, since similar values were shown between the solid wood and no destruction occurred materials.

  • The recent development in multimedia technology such as audio technology needs high quality audio system. Especially, Real Audio Technology is to be developed to play realistic sound. To meet this demands, researches on 3-Dimensional Audio which provides realistic audio effect in virtual reality and augmented reality are conducted. In this paper, how to provide realistic audio effect by using better audio technologies in augmented reality was investigated. In the study, the movements of the 3-Dimensional model on the markers were used to provide the sense of reality in virtual and real world. Namely, the sound was modified according to the movement of the model. The change in distance and angle of the model affected the sound volume and the pitch.
