Extraction Property of Plasticizer in LPG High Pressure Rubber Hose (LPG용 고압고무호스에서 가소제 추출특성)

  • The extraction rates of plasticizer of LPG high pressure rubber are studied. Submerging solvents are composed of propane, n-butane, n-pentane, n-hexane, n-heptane, propylene, 1,3-butadiene, 1-pentene, 1-hexene, ethanethiol, t-butanethiol, dimethyl sulfide, methyl ethyl sulfide. The relationship between the extraction rate of plasticizer and the descriptors of submerging solvent by using multiple linear regression is as follows; PE(wt%) = 7.5193 - 0.58500Carbon${\sharp}$ + 2.3294DB + 2364SH, (N = 13, F = 24.135, R$^2$ = 0.8894, R$_{adj}^2$ = 0.8526, Variance = 7.588) Plasticizer is well extracted by LPG composed of the high vapour pressure and polarity compounds. The mass of extracted plasticizer becomes increasing in proportion to the contents of thiol sulfur compound and unsaturated hydrocarbon such as propylene and 1,3-butadiene in LPG. While the heavier hydrocarbons are, the less the quantities of plasticizer extracted from rubber are.

Hydrocarbon Gas-sensing Properties of Catalytic Combustion Type Gas Sensor (접촉연소식 가스센서의 탄화수소계 가스 감응 특성)

  • Catalytic combustion type gas sensors were fabricated by using noble metal(Pt and Pd) added ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ powder with specific surface area of $200\;m^2/g$. The fabricated sensor showed power consumption of 500 mW at the operating voltage of 1.75 V and high sensitivity of about 120 mV for butane, methane, or propane 100%LEL, respectively. The sensor properties also showed good linearity to hydrocarbon gas concentration variation, reproductivity and stability for relative humidity variation. And it showed high stability in butane ambient for 100 days.

Adsorption and Desorption Dynamics of Ethane and Ethylene in Displacement Desorption Process using Faujasite Zeolite (제올라이트(faujasite)를 이용한 치환탈착공정에서 에탄, 에틸렌의 흡, 탈착 동특성)

  • Adsorption dynamics of ethane/ethylene mixture gas and desorption dynamics during the displacement desorption with propane as a desorbent in the column filled with faujasite adsorbent were investigated experimentally and theoretically. The simulation that adopted heat and mass balance and an ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) for the multicomponent adsorption equilibrium well predicted the experimental breakthrough curves of the adsorption and desorption. At the adsorption breakthrough experiments, roll-ups of ethane increased as the adsorption pressure increased and the adsorption temperature decreased. During the displacement desorption with propane in the column saturated with ethane/ethylene mixture gas, almost 100% of ethylene was obtained for a certain time interval. The adsorption strength of the desorbent greatly affected the adsorption and re-adsorption dynamics of ethylene. The re-adsorption capacity for ethylene has been greatly reduced when iso-propane, which is stronger desorbent than propane, was used as desorbent. It was found from the simulation that the performance of the displacement desorption process would be superior when the ratio of ${(q_s{\times}b)}_{C_2H_4}/{(q_s{\times}b)}_{C_3H_s}$ was 0.83, that is, the adsorption strengths of ethylene and the desorbent were similar.

Process Development for Synthesis of Ultra-low Dielectric SiO2 Aerogel Thin by Freeze Drying (동결건조에 의한 극저유전성 실리카 에어로겔 박막 합성공정 개발)

  • 동결건조법에 의한 저유전성 실리카 박막의 제조공정 개발 및 층간 절연물질로의 응용성이 연구되었다. 코팅용 폴리머 실리카 졸은 TEOS와 이소프로판올(iso-propanol:IPA)또는 터트부탄올(tert-butanol:TBA)을 용매로한 2단계 공정에 의하여 제조되었으며, 이들 졸을 p-Si(111)웨이퍼 상에 스핀코팅한 습윤겔 박막을 동결건조 하여 다공성 실리카 박막을 제조하였다. 균일한 박막 코팅층을 얻을 수 있는 실리카 졸의 최적 점도범위는 IPA와 TBA를 용매로 한 실리카 졸의 경우 각각 10~14 cP와 20~30cP 정도였으며 스핀속도는 2000 rpm 이상이었다. 결함이 없는 다공성 실리카 박막은 TBA(빙점 $25^{\circ}C$)를 동결용매로 하여-196$^{\circ}C$까지 급랭시킨 후 $0^{\circ}C$와 0.1 torr 까지 가열 감압한 상태에서 고상의 TBAFMF 모두 제거한 다음 20$0^{\circ}C$까지 열처리하여 제조되었다. 다공성 실리카 박막의 두께는 졸의 타입과 스핀코팅 속도에 의해 2500~15000$\AA$범위 내에서 제어가 가능하였으며 이들 막의 밀도와 유전상 수 값은 각각 0.9$\pm$0.3g/㎤(기공율 60$\pm$10%)과 2.4 정도였다.

Evaporation Heat Transfer Characteristics of Hydrocarbon Refrigerants R-290 and R-600a in the Horizontal Tubes

  • This paper presents the experimental results of evaporation heat transfer coefficients of HC refrigerants (e.g. R290 and R600a). R-22 as a HCFCs refrigerant and R-l34a as a HFCs refrigerant in horizontal double pipe heat exchangers, having four different inner diameters of 10.07, 7.73, 6.54 and 5.80 mm respectively. The experiments of the evaporation process were conducted at mass flux of $35.5{\sim}210.4 kg/m^2s$ and cooling capacity of $0.95{\sim}10.1 kW$. The main results were summarized as follows : The average evaporation heat transfer coefficient of hydrocarbon refrigerants(R-290 and R-600a) was higher than the refrigerants, R-22 and R-l34a. In comparison with R-22 the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-l34a is approximately $-11{\sim}8.1 %$ higher. R-290 is $56.7{\sim}70.1 %$ higher and R-600a is $46.9{\sim}59.7 %$ higher. respectively. In comparison with experimental data and some correlations, the evaporation heat transfer coefficients are well predicted with the Kandlikar's correlation regardless of a type of refrigerants and tube diameters.

  • Electrospun of PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) ultra fine fibers were fabricated using various solvents including methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol, butanol, acetone, methylene chloride, and DMF, which possess different properties such as boiling point, dielectric constant, and dipole moment. Electrospun PVP fiber was influenced by viscosity, conductivity, and surface tension of spinning solution. Therefore, the electrospun PVP fiber was successfully prepared under critical conditions of viscosity > $0.114kg/m{\cdot}s$, conductivity > 1.02 mS/m, surface tension < 30.0 mN/m. In case of an ethanol solvent system, average diameter of PVP fiber increased from 1701 nm to 5454 nm as increased the applied voltage from 10 kV to 20 kV.

The Effect of N-butane and Propane on Performance and Emissions of a SI Engine Operated with LPG/DME Blended Fuel (LPG/DME 혼합연료를 사용하는 전기점화 기관에서 LPG 성분이 엔진 성능 및 배기특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, a spark ignition engine operated with LPG and DME blended fuel was studied experimentally. The effect of n-butane and propane on performance and emissions of a SI engine fuelled by LPG/DME blended fuel were examined. Stable engine operation was achieved for a wide range of engine loads with propane containing LPG/DME blended fuel compare to butane containing LPG/DME blended fuel since octane number of propane was much higher than that of butane. Also, engine output operated with propane containing blended fuel was comparable to pure LPG fuel operation. Engine output power was decreased and break specific fuel consumption (BSFC) was increased with the blended fuel since the energy content of DME was much lower than that of LPG. Considering the results of engine output power, bsfc, and exhaust emissions, the propane containing LPG/DME blended fuel could be used as an alternative fuel for LPG.

Evaporating heat transfer characteristics of R-22 alternative hydrocarbon refrigerants at heat exchanger using grooved inner tube (내면 핀관을 사용하는 열교환기에서 R-22 대체 탄화수소계 냉매의 증발 열전달 특성)

  • In this paper, evaporation heat transfer characteristics at a inner grooved tube were studied using a new natural refrigerants R-290, R-600a and HCFC refrigerant R-22. Experiments were performed in the inner tube with outside diameter of 12.70mm, having 75 fins with a fin height of 0.25mm. The following results were obtained from this research. On the evaporating heat transfer characteristics, the maximum increment of heat transfer coefficient was found in R-290. Average heat transfer coefficient was obtained the maximum value in R-290 and the minimum value in R-22. It reveals that the natural refrigerant can be used as a substitute for R-22. In the grooved inner tube, 70% of the increment of the heat transfer coefficient was obtained compared to the smooth tube. Comparing the heat transfer coefficient between experimental results and simulation data of other's, the Kandlikar's correlated equation was closely approximated to the author's experimental results in the smooth tube or grooved inner one.

  • LPG(Liquified Petroleum Gas) fuel for vehicles has lots of advantages such as low emission level, cheaper fuel cost and enough infrastructure. Therefore it arouses interest as an alternative engine to reduce emission of diesel engines. Especially MPI(Multi Point Injection) type LPLi(Liquid Phase LPG injection) system could have overcome the disadvantages of mixer types such as low engine performance, decreased charging efficiency and cold starting difficulty. However ice formation on the nozzle tip and intake port due to the freezing of moisture around the components is often observed in LPLi systems. This icing phenomenon is the direct cause of unstable engine combustion, resulting in engine emissions. Therefore in this research, a spray visualization test for LPG injection was carried out to obtain the basic information of an LPLi injector, then the effects of butane and propane mixing rates on ice formation at the intake port and nozzle tip was investigated. As a result, the icing characteristics of them showed contrary results according to the mixing rates.

Research Trends of Technology Using Oxygen for Dehydrogenation of Light Alkanes (경질알칸의 탈수소 반응을 위한 산소활용기술 연구 동향)

  • Due to the great development made in converting the shale gas into the more valuable products, research and commercialization for production technology of olefins like propylene, butenes, butadiene from light alkanes have been intensively investigated. Especially the technology using oxygen like oxidative dehydrogenation or selective hydrogen combustion to overcome thermodynamic limit of direct dehydrogenation conversion has been extensively studied and some cases of applying this technology to the plant scale was reported. In this review, we have categorized the technology into two parts; gas phase oxygen utilization technology and lattice oxygen utilization technology. The trends, results and future direction of the technology are discussed.
