A Study on Jamaican music Used in Moombaton (뭄바톤에서 사용된 자메이카 음악에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the music of the Moombaton genre and to find out the characteristics of Jamaican music in it. I analyzed Lewis Poncy's and BTS's rhythmically, melodically and instrumentally to find the characteristics of Jamaican music. As a result, the rhythm features a Dembow rhythm and reggae rhythm derived from traditional Jamaican music. and As a feature of the melody, toasting, a unique Jamaican expression method, was used. Instrumental features include Latin American percussion, South American melodic instruments, and the use of tr-808. This study is meaningful in creating another fusion genre by finding the elements of Jamaican music in the current popular genre of EDM.

  • 2000년대에 들어와서 대한민국의 대중음악은 소위 '퓨전(fusion)', '월드뮤직(world music)', '크로스오버(cross over)' 등등의 이름으로 여러 가지의 악기와 장르를 혼합하여 만들어지는 작품이 무수히 많이 쏟아져 나오고 있다. 그중에서도 특히 두드러지게 많이 눈이 띠는 작품은 역시 한국의 국악과 서양의 대중음악과의 혼합 이다. 서로의 음악이 혼합하여 너무 잘 어우러 질수 있다는 발견이라기 보단, 자칫 소재의 빈곤으로 그 음악이 그 음악이라는 현대 대중음악의 한계에서 탈출과, 우리만의 독창성을 표현하고자 하는데서 그 원인을 찾을 수 있겠다. 본 논문은 그러한 맥락에서 탄생한 퓨전 록 밴드 "고스트윈드(GOSTWIND)"의 첫 번째 앨범 <10,000 Years Ago> 의 대표곡 "Fire Bird(불새)"를 연구, 분석하여 한국최초의 국악과 록음악의 혼합을 고찰해본다.

  • 재즈의 가장 중심적 인물인 마일즈 데이비스의 'Bitches Brew'는 일반적으로 70년대 이후 현대 음악의 뿌리로 언급된다. 즉, �� 음악과 재즈가 합쳐진 퓨전음악이 시작으로 보는 것인데, 이 연구에서는 단지 시대적 흐름에 따라 형성된 악기 편성과 연주 방식에 프리재즈의 영향이 더해지면서 탄생한 것으로 본다. 수많은 예술적 표현 가운데 새로움에 대한 갈망과 형식에 대한 반감은 문학에서도 포스트-모더니즘적 작품들로 나타나게 되는데, 그 표현 방식에서의 주제의식이 마일즈 데이비스의 'Bitches Brew'의 그것과 상당히 흡사하다. 존 바스의 주제의식과 마일즈 데이비스의 기존의 양식을 다르게 보는 시각을 비교, 분석하여 재즈의 포스트모더니즘을 유추하여 본다.

A study on the convergence of K-pop and world music (케이팝과 월드뮤직의 융합에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to increase the development possibility of K-pop music by analyzing K-pop music and analyzing the use of world music in it. As a research method, we will first look at the world music elements Puerto Rico's reggaeton, Jamaica's toasting, and the melody of Indian music. After that, we analyze two songs, Hyo-yeon's and Hyun-A & Dawn's , with rhythm and melody elements to find out the utilization of World Music. As a result of the study, it was found that it rhythmically showed the type of Dembow rhythm derived from Puerto Rico's reggaeton, and melody followed the form of Jamaican toasting and the melody of Arabic music. This study is meaningful in presenting the possibility of development and various directions of K-pop in the future by analyzing the use of world music used in K-pop music. Through the convergence of various world music and K-pop, I hope that K-pop music will become a culture that is supported by a wider public.

  • The hybrid phenomenon of pronunciation of K-Pop lyrics, which is the diction fusion phenomenon of lyrics, is not a strategic measure for an overseas expansion but a natural formation in the course of history of K-Pop. With the debut of Seo Tai-ji and Boys in 1992, the course of K-Pop changed and settled from ballad to dance music. After three years, the success of a hip hop dance music, 'Come Back Home', opened up a door to Korean Americans who ascertained the potential competitiveness of a hip hop music in K-Pop market. And the writer insists that such advance of Korean Americans into K-Pop market is the origin of the bilingual usage and diction fusion phenomenon of K-Pop lyrics. Therefore, this research will look into the pronunciation system of Korean and English in order to understand the bilingual pronunciation system shown in the lyrics sung by Korean American hip hop singers in the 1990s. Moreover, through Korean pronunciation system, this analysis will discover the main cause of continual acceptance and application of Korean American's broken Korean in the diction of lyrics. Last but not least, this exploration will show the correlation of English pronunciation method of Korean lyrics appeared in K-Pop and the diction of Korean lyrics used by Korean American hip hop singers in late 90s. This research will identify the primary cause of the diction fusion phenomenon in the course of history of K-Pop.

Possibility of Gugak Fusion Bands as Shin-Hallyu Content (신한류 콘텐츠로서 국악퓨전밴드의 가능성 모색)

  • In order to prolong the Shin-Hallyu and make a significant leap forward, we analyzed the characteristics of Jambinai, Singsing Band, and Ackdan Gwangchil, bands that are recognized globally for their musicality and popularity. First, the socio-cultural background behind the world's attention on korean traditional music lies in the racial and cultural diversity that embraces the non-mainstream identity. In particular, the success of Korean traditional music fusion bands in non-Asian countries can satisfy their public seeking to enjoy an exotic culture that is different from Western culture. it is necessary to recognize cultural, social and musical differences depending on the country or ethnicity and to approach them accordingly. Second, in the same Asian region, Korean traditional music is not given a sense of homogeneity, but in the West, the Eastern heterogeneity seems to have become a stronger ompetitive edge. With the expansion of the new Korean Wave to various regions, it is necessary to try to form a regional repertoire. Third, we found the validity of the convergence with the new Korean Wave through the characteristics of Gugak musicians as the main body to build a world of traditional music and enable popularization and globalization. It is necessary to highlight korea's traditional cultural value through analytical research on the effects of tone, composition and directing techniques reflected in korean traditional music or musical elements. The uniqueness and Korean values provided by Gugak will serve as homogeneity in Asia and heterogeneity in Europe and the United States, presenting the possibility of New Hallyu content and contributing to the prolonged Korean Wave.

A Study on Music Retrieval method based on Audio Contents Feature Analysis (오디오 멜로디 추출 기반 특징 분석을 이용한 음악검색 방법에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문은 오디오 특징 분석을 기반으로 한 음악검색 방법에 대한 기술과 연구에 대한 내용이다. 본 연구에서는 크게 3가지의 주요 알고리즘을 이용하여 다 성음에서의 오디오 특징을 추출하고 3가지의 각자 다른 방식의 매칭 알고리즘을 기반으로 한 퓨전 매칭 방식을 제안한다. 오디오 특징으로는 메인 멜로디, 음악 구조를 분석한 세그먼테이션 정보를 이용한다. 본 연구에서 사용된 음악 DB는 음악 포털 서비스에서 제공하는 장르를 기반으로 한 8가지 장르에서 다양한 범위에서 2000곡을 선곡하였다. 오디오 특징 추출을 위한 알고리즘 개발과 매칭 알고리즘 개발을 위하여 음악 DB 2000곡 중 장르의 비율을 고려하여 100곡을 선정하고, 24명으로부터 1200개의 허밍을 녹음하였다. 24명중 3명은 대학에서 음악을 전공하고 나머지는 음악적 교육을 받은 경험이 없는 사람들이다. 1200개의 허밍을 분석한 결과 전체 허밍 중 60%정도가 노래의 시작 부분을 허밍하거나 노래를 불렀고, 30%정도는 하이라이트 부분을 허밍 하였다. 나머지 10%정도는 자신이 가장 자신 있는 부분을 불렀다. 이러한 분석 결과를 기반으로 가장 중요한 부분은 노래가 시작되는 부분에서의 멜로디를 정확하게 찾아내는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다는 것이다. 본 연구에서 검색결과의 평가는 MRR를 이용하여 측정하였다. MIDI DB를 사용한 경우가 다 성음에서 직접 멜로디를 추출한 경우보다 약간 성능이 우수하게 나왔으나 그 차이는 미미했다. 본 연구에서는 개발된 알고리즘을 이용하여 PC상에서 사용할 수 있는 클라이언트 프로그램과 Android app를 개발하였다.

  • African-American music heavily influences a variety of musical genres, including folk music, jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, and funk music. The music derived from traditional African music with its unique syncopated rhythm using a five-note pentatonic scale, and has developed through significant influences from gospel music. African-American music has also evolved through historical social movements, such as eliminating the racial discrimination, and has been influenced by the personalities of different cities in the United States. Modern music features fusion with elements of Western music. One of the most influential and respected artists of the 20th century was Stevie Wonder, who was known as "Father of African-American music." He was an accomplished artist, winning numerous awards despite being disabled. He has become one of the most famous and respected artists worldwide. This study of Stevie Wonder's life, music, and spiritual strength, aims to highlight his significant achievements and contributions to pop music. This is a study based on an analysis of the work of Stevie Wonder and describes how elements of African-American music influences current Korean pop music and musicians.

  • Tropicália, which marked the beginning of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), is a musical genre that originated in the Brazilian cultural movement and this arose in the late 1960s. The musicians who participated in this cultural movement delivered radical innovation by embracing the international music trend of the 60s, such as the Beatles phenomenon and the experimental and creative music of the electronic age. The music derived from this era incorporated the cannibalism of the Brazilian modernism cultural movement in the 1920s, and it presented a cultural consilience while maintaining the traditional Brazilian culture. In particular, the convergence of Tropicália with rock was especially prominent. As rock grew into the culture of resistance in both Britain and the United States, the convergent characteristic of Tropicália reflected the critical sociocultural view toward Brazil at that time. This paper focuses on the element of fusion of traditional Brazilian music and the rock music present in Tropicália. To present a case study, this paper selected music pieces by Caetano Veloso, the essential pillar of Tropicália, and examined each element through specific music analysis. This study aims to establish an academic foundation for third-world music and contributes to the development and creation of fusion music.

A Study on the Album "MonoCrom" (모노크롬(MonoCrom)앨범에 관한 고찰)

  • The public knows the singer Shin Haechul as a musician who performs various musical activities as a producer, singer, and songwriter. However, he was also an all-encompassing entertainer who has been involved in different fields of popular media. His musical tendency is very progressive, and he pursues various attempts to create experimental fusion style music. Among his albums, 'MonoCrom' is the result of a combination of unique techno music and traditional music, and this album is known to bring the level of Korean popular music one step further in terms of musical value and meaning towards a new, unique sound. In this album, gukak holds great importance. In addition to the traditional samulnori instruments such as kkwaenggwari, janggu and jing, instruments like daegeum, taepyeongso, pumba and taryeong were used to show more progressive and expanded crossover music through the collaboration with gukak. In order for the current 'K-Pop' to continue to gain worldwide popularity, it needs a new attempt based on musical expandability. Therefore, if gukak is used as in the album MonoCrom, unique and differentiated music will be created, and will continually promote the worldwide interest in 'K-Pop'.
