In this paper several methods for retriving appropriate values of effective soil moisture contents from natural soil surfaces are introduced and compared each other. The soil medium has usually a nonuniform moisture profile; i.e., relatively dry at the top layer and relatively wet at the bottom layer. The effective soil moisture represents the quantitative value of soil moisture of the inhomogeneous soil medium in an average sense. A simple method is an arithmetic averaging of soil moisture values obtained from several layers of a soil surface. Otherwise, the penetration depths can be computed from a homogeneous and an inhomogeneous soil surfaces and compared in order to obtain the effective soil mosture. The other method is to obtain the effective soil moisture by comparing the reflectivities from both of a homogeneous and an inhomogeneous surfaces. Those methods are compared and the reflectivity technique is examined in more detail since the rader scattering is dominated by the reflectivity instead of the penetration.

In this study, Ag was deposited to investigate its applicability as a surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrate after forming a grass-type black silicon structure through maskless reactive ion etching. Grass-structured black silicon with heights of 2 - 7 ㎛ was formed at radio-frequency (RF) power of 150 - 170 W. The process pressure was 250 mTorr, the O2/SF6 gas ratio was 15/37.5, and the processing time was 10 - 20 min. When the processing time was increased by more than 20 min, the self-masking of SixOyFz did not occur, and the black silicon structure was therefore not formed. Raman response characteristics were measured based on the Ag thickness deposited on a black silicon substrate. As the Ag thickness increased, the characteristic peak intensity increased. When the Ag thickness deposited on the black silicon substrate increased from 40 to 80 nm, the Raman response intensity at a Raman wavelength of 1507 / cm increased from 8.2 × 103 to 25 × 103 cps. When the Ag thickness was 150 nm, the increase declined to 30 × 103 cps and showed a saturation tendency. When the RF power increased from 150 to 170 W, the response intensity at a 1507/cm Raman wavelength slightly increased from 30 × 103 to 33 × 103 cps. However, when the RF power was 200 W, the Raman response intensity decreased significantly to 6.2 × 103 cps.
Landfast sea ice forms near coastlines in polar regions. Continuous monitoring of this sea ice is important, as it plays a key role in the marine ecosystem and affects the operation of nearby research stations. This study detected landfast sea ice around Jang Bogo research station in East Antarctica by stacking interferometric coherence images of Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data with 6-, 12- and 18-day temporal baselines. A total of 50 landfast sea ice maps were generated covering July 2017 to June 2018. The time series revealed regional differences in the timing of the maximum extent as well as growth rate of landfast sea ice. Overall, detecting landfast sea ice using interferometric SAR coherence seems promisingly feasible; however, limitations remain owing to low backscattering coefficients from new and smooth sea ice surfaces and subtle movements of sea ice in contact with the Campbell Glacier Tongue.

Inorganic composite particles have excellent physical and chemical characteristics and have been applied in various industries. Recently, many studies have examined the optical properties, such as light scattering, refraction, transmission characteristics, by coating organic-inorganic materials on a substrate, such as mica. Mica is widely applied as a pigment, plastics, painted products, and ceramics because of its high chemical stability, durability and non-toxicity. Magnesium oxide has a range of properties, such as high light transmittance, corrosion resistance and non-toxicity, and it is used as an optical material and polymer additives. To use the optical properties of mica and magnesium oxide, mica was coated with magnesium hydroxide by a dissolution and recrystallization process. In this study, the optimal conditions for the haze value of the particles were found by adjusting the amount of precursors and pH. Magnesium hydroxide layers were formed on the surfaces of mica and converted to MgO after calcination at $400^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. The results showed that the value of MgO-coated mica haze can be controlled easily by the amount of the magnesium hydroxide and pH. The optical properties of the inorganic composite powder were analyzed using a hazemeter and the highest haze value was 85.92 % at pH 9. The physicochemical properties of the synthesized composite was analyzed by SEM, XRD, EDS, and PSA.

A numerical method is developed to solve a two-dimensional diffraction problem for a body located in a sediment pocket where a heavier muddy water is trapped. In the present study, the wave exciting forces acting on a submerged body in the water-sediment interface by an incident wave is investigate. It is assumed that the heavier mud is trapped locally in a sediment pocket. A mathematical formulation is made in the scope of the potential theory. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid, incompressible and its motion irrotational. The boundary conditions on the unknown free surface and interface are linearized. As a method of solution, the localized finite-element method is adopted. In the method, the computation domain is reduced by utilizing the complete set of analytic solutions known in the infinite subdomain to be truncated by introduction of an appropriate juncture conditions. The main advantage of this method is that any complex geometry of the boundaries can be easily accommodated. Computations are carried out for mono-chromatic plane progressive surface waves normally incident on the domain. Numerical results are compared with those obtained by Lassiter based on Schwingers variational method. Good Agreements are obtained in general. Another numerical computations are made for the cases with and without a body in the sediment pocket.

If we use the microwave of SAR, we can observe on the ocean in spite of bad weather, day and night time. Sea surface images on the ocean of SAR have a lot of information on the atmospheric phenomena related to surface wind vector. Information of wind speed which is extracted from SAR images is used variously. Wind direction data and sigma nought value are put in the CMOD which can extract wind information in order to estimate sea surface wind from SAR images. Wind spectrum which is extracted from SAR always presents opposed two points of $180^{\circ}$ because of applying to 2D-FFT. These ambiguities should be decided by position of land, wind direction or numerical model. Previously, we converted into sigma nought after extracting Digital Number from RadarSat-1 SAR using ENVI4.0, thus, it took a long time because every process was manual. Therefore, we converted sigma nought by matlab code after making matlab code. After that, we are extracting wind direction from sigma nought. Now, to decide wind direction needs further study because wind direction has $180^{\circ}$ ambiguity.
The characteristics of 23 MV photon beam have been presented with respect to clinical parameters of central axis depth dose, tissue-maxi mum ratios, scatter-maximum ratios, surface dose and scatter correction factors. The nominal accelerating potential was found to be $18.5\pm0.5$ MV on the central axis. The half-value layer (HVL) of this photon beam was measured with narrow beam geometry from central axis, and it has been showed the thickness of $24.5\;g/cm^2$. The tissue-maximum ratio values have been determined from measured percentage depth dose data. In our experimental dosimetry, the surface dose of maximum showed only $9.6\%$ of maximum dose at $10\times10\;cm^2$, 100 cm SSD, without blocking tray in. The TMR'S of $0\times0$ field size have been determined to get average $2.3\%$ uncertainties from three different methodis; are zero effective attenuation coefficient, non-ilnear least square fit of TMR's data and effective linear attenuation coefficient from the HVL of 23 MV photon beams of dual energy linear accelerator.
In this study, we conducted the study of the merits and demerits of the laser flash and the divided-bar methods for measuring the thermal conductivity of rocks and investigated applicability of the divided-bar apparatus which was developed by KIGAM. The laser flash method can measure thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity, and thermal conductivity of rocks with even small thickness (< ~3 mm) in the high temperature range($25-200^{\circ}C$) in non-contact mode. For the laser flash method, samples must be uniform and homogeneous. In the case of the divided-bar method, the apparatus measures only thermal conductivity of rock samples at the room temperature. We measured thermal conductivities of 12 rock samples with low density and high porosity using two methods. In the laser flash method, there exist potential errors caused by the effect of pulse dispersion and reflection by various minerals and porosity in rock samples; the difference in thermal conductivity values measured on the front surface and the opposite surface ranges from 0.001 to 0.140 W/mK with the standard deviation of 0.003~0.089 W/mK, which seems to be caused by heterogeneity of rock samples. On the contrary, the divided-bar apparatus shows stable thermal conductivity measurements and relatively small measurement errors; the difference in thermal conductivity values, just as we applied to the laser frash method, is 0.001~0.016 W/mK with the standard deviation 0.001~0.034 W/mK. In turn, the divided-bar method can be applied to more thick samples that are more representative of bulk thermal conductivity.

This study aimed to prepare antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) dispersion with high stability. The methods to achieve this goal were sought by investigating the changes of ATO particle size, size distribution, dispersion property as wet ball milling treatment time increased. And the changes of wet ball milled ATO dispersion property were also investigated, as pH increased. The changes of ATO particle size and size distribution, according to wet ball milling treatment time were evaluated with laser diffraction particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The changes of ATO dispersion property, as wet ball milling treatment time and pH increased, were evaluated with zeta potential analysis and Turbiscan. By 60 min wet ball milling treatment time, ATO particle size decreased and size distribution became narrower, as the treatment time increased. After 60 min milling, the ATO particle size decreased to less than 30% of the initial size and the size distribution was narrowed to $0.1{\sim}5{\mu}m$ from $1{\sim}35{\mu}m$. However, more than 60 min milling, ATO particles aggregated and the particle size increased. ATO dispersion stability also increased as the treatment time and pH increased because the reduced particle size increased particle surface energy and repulsion between particles and the increased pH enhanced particle surface ionization. Hence, after proper length of wet ball milling treatment, highly stable ATO dispersion can be prepared, as increasing pH of the dispersion.
The ultrastructures of the fertilized egg envelope from Hyphessobrycon serpae belonging to Characidae was studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopes to get systematic fundamental data for classification of species and to confirm whether micropyle is a common trait of Characidae or not. The fertilized egg was of colorless, transparent, spherical, adhesive and demersal type. There were not oil droplets in vitelline membrane and attached structures in the outside of fertilize egg envelope. The egg envelope had a single micropyle resembling the pathway of sperm in the area of the animal pole. The micropyle was surrounded by 13 to 15 protruded lines of the egg envelope in a radiated form. The outer surface of fertilized egg envelope was covered by reticular adhesive fibrous structures and irregularly arranged by pore canals. The fertilized egg envelope consisted of three distinct layers an outer adhesive fibrous layer with high electron density, a middle layer with pore canals, and an inner layer consisting of 6 to 7 lamellae alternating layers with interlamellae of lower electron density. These ultrastructural characters of fertilized egg envelope form Hyphessobrycon serpae can be utilized in taxonomy of teleost, and as fundamental data for study on early development of fertilized egg. It seems that the morphology of micropyle is a common trait of Characidae
