A Study on Performance Evaluation of New Asphalt Surface Reinforcement Method (ASRM) for Preventive Maintenance (예방적 유지보수를 위한 아스팔트 표면강화공법의 실내 성능 평가)

  • The new asphalt surface reinforcement method (ASRM) is one of the preventive maintenance methods in asphalt concrete pavements. The adhesion performance of new ASRM satisfied the standard of non-slip pavement and bridge waterproofing materials. As a results of durability tests (as wheel load, rolling bottle and UV resistance test), the new ASRM showed sufficient resistance to traffic and environmental loads. The waterproof and chemical resistance tests of new ASRM were conducted to evaluate whether the pavement could be protected from water and chemicals and the performances of new ASRM were satisfactory. Furthermore, the new ASRM demonstrated some rejuvenation effects due to its toughness increases in recycled asphalt concrete mixture by 5% compared to the conventional hot mix asphalt mixture using reclaimed asphalt pavement. In conclusion, the new ASRM was evaluated to protect the asphalt concrete pavement and increase the lifetime.

  • 열화한 철근콘크리트 구조물에 대하여 성능회복을 위하여 전기화학적 방식, 단면복구공법, 균열보수공법, 표면마감공법 등이 상용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 단면복구공법의 적용과 성능예측을 위한 해석 모델의 입력값으로 사용될 보강철근과 단면복구재의 부착특성을 평가하기 위하여 철근인발실험을 실시하였다. 폴리머시멘트몰탈이 사용되었으며 부착요소의 강성과 강도를 구하여 비선형 해석을 실시하여 상당한 정확도의 예측값을 도출하였다.

  • The evaluation of various color coating methods for color maintenance of color asphalt pavement is conducted using the laboratory and field tests on the bus lane. The surface of color asphalt constructed on the bus lane is deteriorated such as changing color and decoloration and abrasion due to the passing of the traffic and time. The total of 9 coating methods were evaluated in this study. The laboratory tests included Ultra violet test, adhesion test and Taber abrasion test and the field tests were british pendulum test and visual survey. The results of tests showed that the different methods showed the their own engineering characteristics and it is dependant upon the main material used. The rubber epoxy material for the main material showed the satisfactory result among the methods tested. However, the performance of the coating methods after 100days are not satisfactory, decoloration, abrasion and peeling up are investigated and need to be studied for the further application in the field.

  • In this study, for the establishment of the performance evaluation methods and the quality control standard of durability recovery method, the quantitative exposure data by long term exposure test under the coast and air environment is accumulated and analyzed. Investigating and evaluating the result of exposure test during 18 months of exposure age under the coastal and normal atmosphere environment, micro crack, swelling and spatting of surface coating material crack of repair standards of repair material and method through continuous exposure test in the future.

  • As the importance of maintenance of reinforced concrete structure recently has emerged, the attention of durability of structure has been increasing. There are many studies about durability decline especially due to the carbonation. In order to study carbonation progress after surface repair of carbonated concrete, each carbonation penetration velocity from different repair materials of concrete structure is compared through the experiment of carbonation accelerating CO2 concentration to 100%. As carbonation infiltration progress is predicted through this study, the counterplan of service life evaluation will be prepared on selection of repair materials of concrete structure.

  • The repair technique utilizing surface impregnant is widely used due to its simple construction procedures and economical benefit. Surface protection through this reparing technique cannot increase the bearing capacity of concrete members much but increase the durability performance and service life efficiently. In this study, fundamental tests such as water suction and permeation are performed for concrete specimens with several organic/inorgarnic impregnant and suitable impregnant is selected on the basis of the results. Finally, durability tests such as carbonation, freezing and thawing, and chloride attack are carried out for the concrete specimens with selected impregnant and it is experimentally verified that they have good resistance to deteriorations.

  • A study was carried out to improve the field implementation of asphalt surface reinforcement method which is a preventive maintenance. Mean Texture Depth (MTD) was measured to quantify the surface condition and used to determine the optimum application rate. Determining the application rate using MTD can reduce the material loss from 30% to 15%. In order to reduce the curing time to 30 minutes, the heat capacity of $317kcal/m^2$ is required. Therefore, the design capacity of the heating curing device requires more than 380,000 kcal/hr. The asphalt surface reinforcement method is preferably applied at a time when slight cracking occurs before the permanent deformation becomes serious. Through the analysis of the pavement survey data, it was decided to apply the surface reinforcement method at the crack rate of 3~4%. Heating the surface reinforcement agent to $50^{\circ}C$ improves workability and ensures sufficient penetration depth even at a crack width of 1 mm. The results will be utilized as basic data for the development of automated construction equipment for efficiency improvement.
