  • Micro-cracks with a width less than 0.1 mm in precast concrete panels do not cause structural problem, but they can cause problems in long term durability and concrete surfaces aesthetic, requiring additional repair costs. In this paper, polymer cement concrete is used to increase flexural tensile strength and to prevent micro-cracks due to construction loads on LB-DECK panels. Using 5% polymer-cement ratio, the panel crack moment is increased by improving flexural tensile strength and controlling visible micro-cracks during construction stage of LB-DECK.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortars according to curing conditions. From the test results, the adhesion in tension is seriously affected by type of curing conditions compared with type of polymer dispersions or polymer-cement ratios. The maximum adhesion in tension of EVA-modified mortar with polymer-cement ratio of 20% cured by standard condition is about 1.81 times, the cement mortar cured in water. It is apparent that the adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortars according to raising of polymer-cement ratio is also much more improved irrespective of type of polymer dispersions and curing conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to design the basic mix proportions of antiwashout underwater polymer cement mortar as a repair material. The antiwashout underwater polymer cement mortars are prepared with various mix proportions using three type polymer dispersions without or with antifoamer. From the test results, the whole antiwashout underwater polymer cement mortars can be cast underwater without segregation like plain mortar. It is apparent that the flexural strength of antiwashout underwater SBR cement mortars with antifoamer at polymer- cement ratios of 5% and 10% is higher than that of plain mortar irregardless of a little low compressive strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the viscosity and flowability of polymer-cement composites for repairing cracks of RC structures. The viscosity and flowability of the polymer cement composites differed greatly depending on the type of polymer and the polymer cement ratio, and the polymer cement composites could be produced that could repair fine cracks in the RC structure without material separation by adjusting the proper water-cement ratio. In particular, the mixing of high viscosity EVA-modified polymer composites could be adjusted.

  • The adhesion performance of PCCs for crack repair of RC structures was greater in the case of using ultra high-early strength cement than in the case of using ordinary Portland cement, and the effect of mixing silica fume was higher in the case of ordinary Portland cement than that of ultra high-early strength cement. On the other hand, 130% of W/C was more fluid than 80% of W/C in the same P/C 80%, which increased the fillability and improved the strength, but the strength improvement effect was the greatest in adhesion in flexure. Through this study, the basic characteristics of the adhesion performance of PCCs were identified, and based on this, it is necessary to induce an optimal mixing design that can increase adhesion performance through various mixing designs.

  • Nowadays, recycling of recycled aggregates from the waste concrete is seriously demanded for the protection of environment and the shortage of aggregates owing to the large scale construction project. In this study, for the development of polymer composite recycling recycled aggregates from the waste concrete, twenty five specimens of the polymer composite were prepared with the five levels of replacement ratios of recycled aggregates (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%) and polymer-cement ratios (0,5, 10, 15, 20%), respectively. For the evaluation of the performance of polymer composite specimens, various physical properties such as compressive and flexural strengths, water absorption, hot water resistance, total pore volume and porosity were investigated. As a result, physical properties of polymer composite were remarkably improved with an increase of polymer cement ratios, but greatly decreased with the replacement ratios of recycled aggregates.

  • Polymer-Impregnated Concrete(PIC) is a composite material of concrete and polymer. PIC has superior properties compared to conventional cement concrete, such as strength, stiffness, toughness, durability, water-proofing, chemical resistance. However, the usage of PIC has been limited to repairing materials and non-structural applications due to the lack of the design criteria and the analytical model to determine structural behavior. The objective of this study is experimentally to develop the optimum mixing proportions of polymer impregnants and the stress-strain responses, the strength characteristics, the fatigue and creep behaviors, and the durabilities of MMA(methyl methacrylate)-based PIC.

  • In order to examine the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced cement composites with silica powder PAN - based carbon fiber and Pitch- based carbon fiber, and polymer impregnators experimental studies on CFRC impregnated in polymer were carried out. The effects of types, length, and content~i of carbon fibers and matrices of fresh and hardened CFRC impregnated in polymer were examined. The test results show that compressive, tensile, and flexural strength of CFRC impregnated in polymer were much more iriCreased than those of air cured and autodaved CFIIC CFRC impregnated in polymer was also considerably effective in improving toughness, freeze thaw resistance, loss of shrinkage, and creep resist ance, compared with air cured and autoclaved CFRC.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of surlightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate. The following conclusions were drawn; 1. Unit weight was in the range of $810~970kgf/m^3$, the unit weights of those concrete were decreased 58~65% than that of the normal cement concrete. 2. The highest strength was achieved by $P_1$, it was increased 112% by compressive strength, 378% by bending strength and 290% by tensile strength than that of the normal cement concrete, respectively. 3. Ultrasonic pulse velocity was in the range of 2,206~2,595m/s, which was low showed compared to that of the normal cement concrete. 4. Durability of surlightweight polymer concrete was superior to that of the normal cement concrete. 5. Compressive, tensile and bending strength were largely showed with the increase of unit weight. But, ultrasonic pulse velocity was low showed with the increase of unit weight.

  • In recent years, polymer-modified mortars using polymer dispersions have been widely used as finish and repair materials in the construction industry because of their excellent properties compares to those of ordinary cement mortar. Especially, the adhesion improvement of ordinary cement mortar and concrete has attracted a great deal of attention from researchers, and several unique and simply applicable techniques for the adhesion improvement have been developed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the abrasion resistance of polymer-modified mortar according various curing methods. The polymer-modified mortar are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and are subjected to three curing methods such as dry rure, standard cure and freezing and thawing cure after two curing methods, and then tested for abrasion. From the test results, the polymer-modified mortars with various polymer-cement ratios have some superior abrasion resistance compared with plain mortar. The abrasion resistance of polymer-modified mortars increase with an increase in the polymer-cement ratio, and is better under water cure than any other curing methods. It is concluded that the abrasion resistance of cement mortar is markedly improved by modifying of polymer dispersion.
