Performance of sequencing batch reactor under aeration-limited condition and characteristics of microbial community change (폭기 에너지 저감 연속회분식반응조 운전과 미생물 군집 변화 특성)

  • Recent focus on wastewater treatment includes energy-saving and renewable energy generation for energy-independence of water infrastructures. Aeration and pumping in biological wastewater removal processes account for nearly 30-60% of the total electricity cost in real wastewater treatment plants. In this study, the performance and microbial characteristics were investigated in sequencing batch reactor under typical oxygen and oxygen limited condition. Under typical DO ($7.55{\pm}0.99mg/L$) and low DO ($0.23{\pm}0.08mg/L$) conditions, COD removal was stable over 91 % during SBR operation. Ammonia removal efficiency was reduced from 95.6 % to 89.2 % when DO concentration was dropped sharply. Phosphorus removal efficiency also reached 77% at oxygen-limited condition. The results indicated that removal efficiency both ammonia and phosphorus was influenced by DO condition. Microbial analysis revealed that Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes at phylum level was dominant in typical DO and low DO conditions and DO concentration did not much affect phylum distribution. Population decrease of genera of nitrifying bacteria(Dokdonella) and Dechloromonas spp. affect removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus at low DO condition.

  • Nitrous oxide, one of the six greenhouse gases from Kyoto protocol, is known to be emitted in biological nitrification and denitrification reactions at wastewater treatment plant. In this study, EQPS which is a computer program that can simulate nitrous oxide gas emission amount at wastewater treatment plants is used. The MLE process which treats wastewater from combined sewer is studied. Operational variables which are MLR, water temperature at reactor and primary clarifier by-pass percentage are changed to define the condition which produces the least amount of nitrous oxide gas. 200 % of MLR, 20 ℃ of water temperature at bioreactor and 15 % of primary clarifier by-pass percentage are shown the least nitrous oxide emission factor. Also, it is found that the deep aeration tank produces less amount of nitrous oxide gas since less air is required to meet oxygen demand in this type of aeration tank.

  • A wastewater purifying system using phototrophic bacterium, Rhodopseudomonas capsulata, is currently in operation in several countries, One of them, is a continuously aerated bioreactor(CABR) system, which treats concentrated swin wasterwater using small amounts of phototrophic bacteria as additive bacterial seeding. Using this plant, total biochemical oxygen demand was decreased to 13%, and most of volatile fatty acids were removed. About 40% of the wastewater(Influx) was evaporated during aerobic digestion for 24h, and 60% of that erupted in a decodorized foam(Efflux). The efflux had enough nutrients, N, P and K kor growing plant, as well as organic matters. When the efflux was applied to Italian ryegrass with high dose, fresh shoot and root weights were significantly greater, and $NO_3-N$ contents of the dried shoot were lower than those of control plant (CDU). These results indicate that the CABR plant is useful for reduction and deodorization of swine wastewater and the efflux from CABR can be used for crop production as an organic fertilizer.

  • 최근 통신 서비스의 증가에 따라 대용량의 전송 용량이 요구되고 있으며, 이에 대한 해결책으로 파장분할다중(WDM) 방식의 광전송에 관한 많은 연구가 수행되었다. EDFA는 1550 nm 근처에서 이득 영역을 가지고 있기 때문에 장거리 광통신 시스템에 주된 광증폭기로 사용되고 있으나 파장에 따른 이득이 서로 다르게 나타나기 때문에, WDM 시스템에 이용하기 위해서는 EDFA의 이득 평탄화가 필요하며, 이에 대한 다양한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. (중략)

Influences of Aeration Rate and Manure Temperature on Phosphorus Transformation in Swine Liquid Manure Bioreactor (액상 돈분 발효조에서 폭기량과 돈분온도가 인의 형태 변환에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influences of aeration rates and temperatures on phosphorus transformation in the manure during treatment of swine manure in 15.3L batch reactor. The total phosphorus of raw manure was composed of $91.5\%$ of inorganic phosphorus and $8.5\%$ of organic phosphorus. During the experiment, inorganic phosphorus decreased from $91.5\%\;(385.7\;mg/L)\;to\;25.8-42.7\%\;(108.8-179.8\;mg/L)$ while organic phosphorus increased from $8.5\%\;(35.6\;mg/L)\;to\;57.3-74.2\%\;(241.5-312.5\;mg/L)$. The organic phosphorus was increased by the possible transformation of soluble inorganic phosphorus to poly-phosphate by the microbial uptake. However, soluble inorganic phosphorus was not decreased much during the experiment because the insoluble inorganic phosphorus was transferred to soluble inorganic phosphorus offsetting the microbial uptake. There was no significant difference in soluble inorganic proportion variance during the experiment among treatments for three liquid temperatures and three aeration levels. In terms of phosphorus transformation in the manure and energy consumption required for aeration, lower aeration was desirable fur the manure treatment.

초광대역 광증폭기에 대한 연구

  • 고용량 파장다중분할(WDM) 전송 시스템의 수요가 폭발적으로 증가함에 따라 기존의 erbium-doped fiber amplifiers(EDFA)가 제공하는 이득 대역을 넘어서는 대역폭의 광증폭기의 개발이 촉진되고 있다. 에르븀 이외의 새로운 회토류 첨가물을 사용한 증폭기와 광섬유 내에서의 비선형 현상인 라만 산란에 의한 라만 증폭기에 집중적인 연구가 그 예라 하겠다. 최근 몇 년간의 집중적인 연구를 통하여 현재의 광대역 광 증폭기는 기존의 EDFA(C 벤드 EDFA)가 제공하는 광이득대역의 4∼5배 정도를 쉽게 제공할 수 있다. 이러한 목적을 가지고 통신시장에서 사용될 수 있는 1500nm 근처 대역의 증폭에 대한 세가지의 증폭 기술이 연구되고 있다. 우선, S+밴드(1450-1480nm)와 S밴드(1480-1530nm)의 증폭을 위한 thulium-doped fluoride fiber amplifiers(TDFFA), C 밴드(1530-1560nm)와 L 밴드(1570-1610nm)를 위한 EDFA, 그리고 마지막으로 100nm 이상의 이득대역과 S+에서 L밴드까지 증폭파장대역의 선택이 자유로운 라만 증폭기가 있다. 또한 위의 세 기술을 직렬 또는 병렬로 조합하여 사용하는 증폭기가 있다. 이러한 증폭기 모두에 대해서 실험적인 보고는 많이 있었으나, 내부의 에너지 준위가 복잡하여 증폭 기제가 복잡하고, 실험 파라미터를 측정하기가 어려워서 광대역증폭기의 성능을 예측하기 어려운 점이 있었다. 게다가 이러한 상황에서 광대역증폭기에 대한 해석적이거나 수치해석적인 심도깊은 연구가 부족하여 앞으로 증폭기를 다양하게 응용하기 위한 성능의 예측이 어려울 것으로 보인다. 이는 광대역 증폭기 기반의 전송 시스템을 성공적으로 적용하는데 제한을 줄 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 광대역 증폭기(C/L밴드 EDFA, 라만 증폭기, TDFA)에 대한 실험적인 분석뿐만 아니라 해석적, 수치해석적인 분석 방법까지 그 응용의 예와 함께 소개할 것이다.

Treatment of cosmetic wastewater and sewage by activated sludge process (활성슬러지법을 이용한 화장품 공장 폐수 및 오수의 처리)

  • This study was undertaken to see the effect of the addition of residential sewage to cosmetic plant wastewater on the aeration time for COD stabilization of the mixture in a bioreactor. Various range of mixing-ratio samples were tested to find the optimal mixing ratio. The combined result of measured COD and the minimum aeration time was desirable when the sewage portion was 80%. It was found that the addition of residential sewage to cosmetic plant wastewater itself reduced the measured COD of the mixture without any further treatment. And during the aeration COD was reduced with increasing the portion of the sewage. These results show that the aeration time for COD stabilization can be reduced by pro-mixing of residential sewage and the cosmetic plant wastewater.

STUDIES ON THE MATHEMATICAL KINETICS FOR THE REMOVABLE MOVING SCREEN MEDIA-ACTIVATED SLUDGE PROCESS (회전형 반고정망 활성슬럿지 공법의 수학적 해법에 관한 연구 1. 유기물 제거속도에 대하여)

  • It is preented the removable moving screen media-activated sludge (REMSMAS) process by using the biological fixed-film systems. The substrate removal kinetic difference between the aeration-only completed mixing activated sludge (CMAS) process and REMSMAS process were observed. The substrate removal kinetics were developed based on the attached and suspended microbial growths. The units of the aeration-only CMAS process were continously operated with the normal detention time of 4.5, 6, 9.5 and 12 flours studies after steady-state condition and the operating of the REMSMAS units conducted with the normal detention time of 6 and 12 hours studies in nonsteady-state condition. The feed solution was diluted 18 times to the raw starch wastewater in of order to maintain the proper COD (950mg/l) and BOD (450mg/l) concentration. Design parameters related to the suspended microbial growths were caculated by the equations used in the aeration-only CMAS model and these parameters used to evalute the kinetic constants in the REMSMAS process. The kinetic constant values of $Y_2,\;K_d,(\mu_{max})_s\;and\;K_s$ from Monod equations were respectively 0.78, 0.027/hr, 1.1/hr and 95mg/l in the aeration-only CMAS process. The value of the aera capacity (F) appeared to be $9.1\;mg/cm^2-day$ and the mean value of the saturation constant $(K_g)$ appeared to be 53.5 mg/l in the REMSMAs process. Also, the substrate removal .ate of the REMSMAS process was higher than that of the normal activated sludge process when this system was operated in steady-state condition. However, the rate was reduced as the critical operating day was approached.

  • ADSL, Metro Ethernet등 가입자에게 넓은 대역폭을 할당하는 기술이 서비스 영역에 적용되고 있음에 따라 이를 원활히 수용할 수 있는 초고속 대용량 기간망 구축기술이 필요하다. 현재 사용되는 기술로는 2.5Gbps 또는 10Gbps의 전송속도를 갖는 수 십 채널을 각각 파장이 다른 광반송파(optical carrier)에 실어 광학적으로 다중화한 뒤 한 가닥의 광섬유를 통해 전송시키는 파장분할 다중화(Wavelength Division Multiplexing: WDM) 기술이 있다. 본 논문에서는 채널 당 전송 속도를 40Gbps로 증가시키거나, 증폭기 이득 대역폭을 확장시켜 채널 수를 증가시켜 수 THz의 전송용량을 수 천 km 전송시키는데 필요한 라만 광증폭기 기술, FEC 기술, 변조포맷, 분산관리(Dispersion management)기술 등의 핵심기술을 소개한다.

Study on Sludge Reduction by Sludge Solubilization and Change of Operation Conditions of Sewage Treatment Process (하수슬러지 가용화와 하수처리 운전조건 개선을 통한 하수슬러지 발생저감 연구)

  • In order to find the way to solve the problem of sewage sludge discharge into the ocean, the sludge solubilization by ultrasonic and the improvement methods of wastewater treatment process were studied. In the membrane bioreactor the sludge retention time was stepwise increased from 5.1 day to 442 days where the biomass average concentration has been increased from $c_B$=3.4 $gTSSL^{-1}$ to $c_B$=14.5 $gTSSL^{-1}$ respectively. At the same time, the biomass yield coefficients were reduced from 0.5-0.7 at SRT=5.1 day to 0.005-0.007 at SRT=442 days which means the reduction of sludge production. Oxygen mass transfer coefficients and ${\alpha}$-factor were investigated with changing stirrer speed to find the relation between the high biomass concentration and aeration efficiency in the propeller loop reactor. As a result of sludge solubilization, the solubilization of sludge by ultrasound was increased with increasing energy input and it led to improved anaerobic digestion rate with more biogas production than that of nonsolubilized sewage sludge.
