  • The steel cargoes as the core raw materials for the manufacturing industry have important roles for increasing the handling volume of the port. In particular, steel cargoes are fundamental to vitalize Port of Incheon because they have recognized as the primary key cargo items among the bulk cargoes. In this respect, the IPA(Incheon Port Authority) ambitiously developed the port complex facilities including dedicated terminals and its hinterland in northern part of Incheon. However, these complex area has suffered from low cargo handling records and has faced operational difficulties due to decreased net profits. In general, the import and export steel cargo volumes are sensitively fluctuated followed by internal and external economy index. There is a scant of research for forecasting the steel cargo volume in Incheon port which used in various economy index. To fill the research gap, the aim of this research is to predict the steel cargoes of Port of Incheon using the well established methodology i.e. System Dynamics. As a result, steel cargoes volume dealt with in Incheon port is forecasted from about 8 million tons to about 10 million tons during simulation duration (2011-2020). The Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) is measured as 0.0013 which verifies the model's accuracy.

  • Genetic variation in Asaum misandrum, a woodland herb in Korea, was investigated based on allozyme analysis with starch gel electrophoresis. All of previously reported populations in Korea were sampled and seven loci from six enzymes were analyzed. Overall genetic variation of A. misandrum population showed considerably high levels of genetic variation within the species (A = 2.05, P = 71.4, $H_E$ = 0.294). A positive $F_{IS}$ value of A. misandrum indicated overall deficiency of heterozygotes, and a low $F_{ST}$ value (0.112) meant very little differentiation among populations. Factors contributing to the high levels of genetic diversity found within populations of A. misandrum include population maintenance via wide distribution range from Korea to Japan and primarily outcrossing breeding system. Although it showed moderate genetic diversity level, most habitats of the species were scattered and discontinuous. Besides, low numbers of individuals were found in the most habitats and individuals are collected frequently from the wild due to the unique shape of the flowers as well as the rarity of the species. Thus, there is a need to set up a reasonable conservation strategies including the maintenance mechanism of genetic diversity of A. misandrum.

  • A forecasting method using deep learning does not have consistent results due to the differences in the characteristics of the dataset, even though they have the same forecasting models and parameters. For example, the forecasting model X optimized with dataset A would not produce the optimized result with another dataset B. The forecasting model with the characteristics of the dataset needs to be optimized to increase the accuracy of the forecasting model. Therefore, this paper proposes novel optimization steps for outlier removal, dataset classification, and a CNN-LSTM-based hyperparameter tuning process to forecast the daily power usage of a university campus based on the hourly interval. The proposing model produces high forecasting accuracy with a 2% of MAPE with a single power input variable. The proposing model can be used in EMS to suggest improved strategies to users and consequently to improve the power efficiency.

  • Purpose: The first objective of this study was to compare the upper midface morpholgy, focusing on the soft tissues, between skeletal Class III maloccusion patients with midfacial depression and the norm. The second objective was to estimate and analyze the change in the upper midface soft tissues following surgical correction with maxillary advancement by Lefort I osteotomy and mandibular setback by bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSRO). Methods: The samples consisted of 34 adult patients (15 males and 12 females) with an average age of 21 years, who had severe anteroposterior discrepancy with midfacial depression. These patients had received presurgical orthodontic treatment and surgical treatment which consisted of simultaneous Lefort I osteotomy and BSSRO. Results: The correlation coefficient between changes in maxillary advancement and changes in Or' (soft tissue orbitale) was 0.599 (p < 0.05). Change in maxillary plane angle and vertical change of the maxilla were not correlated with the change in Or' (p < 0.05). The ratio of soft tissue change in Or' to maxillary advancement was 43.57 %, and 81.54 % in Sn. Regression equations between maxillary movement and Or' were devised. The $r^2$ value was 0.476. Conclusions: The majority of measurements in the upper midface in skeletal Class III maloccusions when compared to the norm, showed significant differences. In Class III malocclusion with midfacial depression, maxillary advancement produces soft tissue change in the upper midface.

  • Korean income data obtained from Korea Labor Panel Survey shows excessive zeros, which may not be properly explained by the Tobit model. In this paper, we analyze the data using a zero-inflated Tobit model to incorporate excessive zeros. A zero-inflated Tobit model consists of two stages. In the first stage, individuals with 0 income are divided into two groups: genuine zero group and random zero group. Individuals in the genuine zero group did not participate labor market since they have no intention to do so. Individuals in the random zero group participated labor market but their incomes are very low and truncated at 0. In the second stage, the Tobit model is assumed to a subset of data combining random zeros and positive observations. Regression models are employed in both stages to obtain the effect of explanatory variables on the participation of labor market and the income amount. Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are applied for the Bayesian analysis of the data. The proposed zero-inflated Tobit model outperforms the Tobit model in model fit and prediction of zero frequency. The analysis results show strong evidence that the probability of participating in the labor market increases with age, decreases with education, and women tend to have stronger intentions on participating in the labor market than men. There also exists moderate evidence that the probability of participating in the labor market decreases with socio-economic status and reserved wage. However, the amount of monthly wage increases with age and education, and it is larger for married than unmarried and for men than women.

  • The purpose of this study was to research the traumatized primary teeth and investigate following factors: sex, age, cause, place and time(of the year) of injury, elapsed time, area and type of injury, dental treatment and prognosis. The analysis includes total of 1533 traumatized primary teeth from 758 children aging from 6 months to 6 years(mean age: 2.8) from 2003 to 2007. The result follows : 1. The children of age between 1-2 and 2-3 were involved in the largest number of injuries in both sexes with boy/girl ratio of 1.77:1(p<0.001). 2. Fall and collision were the main causes of traumatic dental injury, especially in younger children(p<0.05). Places of injury occurrence varied: home, outdoors, and kindergarten. Warm climate accounts for frequent outdoor injuries in May, September and October(p<0.001). 3. Most of the children visited dental clinic within 24 hours of the injury(77.6%). From March to September, dental trauma occurrences were distributed evenly, except for Winter period(p<0.001). 4. Upper central incisors were the most commonly affected teeth, and the injuries usually involved 1 tooth or 2 teeth. 5. Periodontal tissue injuries dominated and subluxation was the most common type. Lateral luxation, enamel fracture, intrusion and root fracture followed.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the morphological characteristics of leaf and the genetic diversity of Berchemia racemosa var. magna which is only found in Anmyeon Island of South Korea. ANOVA test showed that there were significant differences among individuals within population in all 10 leaf characteristics. Average characteristics of 39 individuals were 11.8 cm in leaf length, 7.1 cm in leaf width, 1.67 in leaf index, 5.4 cm in upper 1/3 width, 6.2 cm in lower 1/3 width, 3.6 cm in petiole length, 0.19 mm in leaf thickness, 11.5 ea. in number of veins (left), 11.4 ea. in number of veins (right) and 61.7 $cm^2$ in leaf area, respectively. Except for leaf thickness (18.8%), petiole length (21.7%) and leaf area (22.0%), the coefficients of variation of most leaf characteristics were relatively low (<15.0%). A total of 50 bands was generated from 8 selected I-SSR primers. The estimates of genetic variation were 1.719 in effective number of alleles ($A_e$), 26.0% in proportion of polymorphic bands (P), 0.410 in expected heterozygosity ($H_e$) and 0.598 in Shannon's diversity index (S.I.), respectively. In spite of the small number and the limited distribution, the B. racemosa var. magna population in Anmyeon Island showed high genetic diversity.

  • The present study researched and analyzed decontamination technology for decommissioning a nuclear power plant. The decision-making technique (EXPERT-CHOICE) was used to evaluate and select the optimal decontamination technology. In principle, this evaluation method is generally performed by a group of experts in the relevant field. The results of the weights were calculated by multiplying the weights with regard to each criterion and evaluation score. The evaluation scores were categorized into 3 ranges (high, medium, and low), and each range was weighted for differentiation. The level of the technology analysis was improved by additionally quantifying the weights with regard to each criterion and subdividing criteria into subcriteria. The basic assumption of the evaluation was that the weight values would decided on in an expert survey and assigned to each criterion. The evaluation criteria followed high weight for the 'High' range. Accordingly, H, M, and L were assigned weights of 10:5:1, respectively. This was based on the EXPERT-CHOICE optimal analysis. The minimum and maximum values were excluded, and the average value was used as the evaluation value for each scenario.

  • Numerical measurements were made for fresh weight, body length and width, head width, and color and length of antenna of Japanese pine sawyer, Monochamus alternatus adults, a primary vector of pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Korea. We measured 563 females and 601 males that emerged out of dead pine logs from 2001 to 2002. General linear model analysis showed that measurements of fresh weight, body length, and body width were significantly higher in females than in males. Head width was not significantly different between sexes. Antennal length of males was significantly longer than that of females. For females and males respectively, average fresh weights were 0.305g and 0.277g, body lengths 20.97mm and 19.93mm, body widths 6.52mm and 6.18mm, head widths 3.78mm and 3.70mm, and antennal lengths 31.19mm and 45.49 mm. Antennal length or ratio of antennal length to body length overlapped in some ranges between 2 sexes. Therefore antennal length itself or ratio of antennal length to body length could not be used as a definite criterion to discriminate sexes. However, check on color of the antennae of 4,033 adults revealed without exception that basal part of every segment of flagellum of female antenna was covered with whitish-grey hairs, while whole part of every segment of male flagellum was covered with brownish-black hairs. This characteristics might be a best way to differentiate sex of this species.

  • Exposure to air and increased temperature induced successful spawning in Mytilus edulis, M. coruscus Crassostrea gigas and Pinctata fucata martensii. Developmental durations required for an egg to attain D-shaped larva and the D-shaped larva to reach pediveliger stage were estimated in these bivalves. Size of fertilized eggs was the largest (70.3 ${\mu}m$) in M. coruscus and the smallest (45.3 ${\mu}m$) in P. fucata martensii. At 17$^{\circ}C$, M. edulis and M. coruscus attained D-shaped larval stage within 48 hours after fertilization but those of C. gigas and B. fucata martensiii within 24 and 22 hours at 21 and 26$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The development duration required for a D-shaped larva to attain pediveliger stage was the longest (27 days) in M. coruscus and ranged between 20 and 22 days for the others. The shell length of the pediveliger was the longest (274.9 ${\mu}m$) in C. gigas and smallest (190.9 ${\mu}m$) in P. fucata martensii Length and height of larval shell was highly correlated with each other in all the 4 species. The shell height of C. gigas was more than the shell length beyond the size of 100 ${\mu}m$ shell length. However, shell length of the others was always longer than shell height at the larval stage.
