A Study on Radar Rainfall Prediction Method based on Deep Learning (딥러닝 기반의 레이더 강우예측 기법에 관한 연구)

  • 최근 호우의 빈도와 규모는 증가하는 추세이며 이에 따른 홍수 피해는 많은 피해를 야기하고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 홍수 피해에 대한 선제적 대응을 위한 요소로써 초단시간 강우예측 정보의 중요성은 매우 높다. 특히, 레이더 자료 기반의 강우예측은 수치예보모델과 비교하여 3시간 이내의 짧은 선행시간 이내의 높은 정확도를 갖고 있어 홍수예보에 다수 활용되고 있다. 최근에는 강우자료의 복잡한 관계와 특징을 고려하기 위해 딥러닝 기반의 강우예측 활용 사례가 증가하고 있으나 국내 적용 사례는 적어 관련 연구가 요구되는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 레이더 강우를 활용한 딥러닝 기반의 강우예측 기법을 제안하고 이에 대한 적용성을 평가하고자 한다. 2차원 레이더 강우자료의 특징과 시계열 특성을 고려하기 위한 심층신경망 구조를 제안하였으며 기존 딥러닝 모형과의 비교를 통해 활용 가능성을 제시하고자 하였다. 적용 대상지역은 한강 유역으로 선정하였다. 정성적 평가를 위해 임계성공지수(CSI)를 활용하여 예측 강우에 대한 정확도를 평가하였으며 정량적 평가를 위해 예측 강우와 관측 강우의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 평가 결과, 제안하는 방법이 기존 모형과 비교하여 예측오차의 범위가 적고 강우의 위치 변화를 잘 반영하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 초단기간 강우예측 자료를 활용하는 홍수예보의 정확도 향상에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

The Difference between Time Management Practices and Self-evaluation of Time Use by Time Rules in Families, Focused on Middle School Students in Japan (부모 자녀 간 시간에 관한 규칙 유무에 따른 일본 중학생의 시간관리 행동 및 시간사용 자기평가의 차이)

  • This study aims to clarify the difference between scores for time management practice and the self-evaluation of time use according to time rules in families. This study used data obtained from the first survey on after-school activities in 2008, conducted by the Benesse Educational Research and Development Institute in Japan. The study sample consists of 3,372 middle school students. First, scores for independence and planning were highest in third grade, yet the score for regularity was also lowest in third grade. There will be different lifestyles even among middle school students of the same grade, so it is necessary to consider their characteristics and family rules. Second, the scores for independence, regularity and planning were lowest in groups whose families had rules about time (time rules for curfew, time rules for watching television, time rules for playing games), but in which those rules were not kept. These results were similar for both boys and girls and show that it is more important keep rules rather than to make rules.

  • This study analyzed the transit services with respect to transit service measures such as the load factor representing number of passengers between stops, dwelling time, and operational speed based on transit smart card data recorded in 2009. A case study on the local bus line 7024 connecting Seoul railway station to evaluate bus services at passenger perspectives was accomplished. From the results, we found that the dwelling time was not affected by the number of passengers which is because the tagging patterns are different among passengers. The operational speed was analyzed by calculating the average speed of the bus route and the speed of each bus stops based on dwelling time. Interestingly, calculating operation speed based on the transit smart card data is the first time effort ever made and this means that it is not necessary to observe travel speed of bus and railway at a field level any more. we hope that this study will be a basis of evaluation of transit services purely based on the transit smart card data and help to make better transit services for passengers and operators as well.

Numerical Analysis in Hydrograph Determination for Sluice Gate installed Levee (배수통문이 설치된 제방의 설계수위파형결정에 관한 수치해석)

  • According to national regulations and its commentary, such as Rivers Design Criteria & Commentary (KWRA, 2009), Foundation Structure Guideline and its Commentary(MLTM, 2014 and KGS, 2009), the integrity evaluation of river levee includes slope stability evaluation of both riverside/protected low-land and piping stability evaluation with respect to foundation and levee body along with water level conditions. In this case the design hydro-graph can be the most important input factor for the integrity evaluation, however it is fact that the national regulations do not provide any proper determination methods regarding hydro-graph. The authors thus executed an integrity evaluation of sluice gate in levee by changing each hydro-graph factor, including rising ordinary water level, lasting flood water level, falling water level, and flood frequency, in order to suggest a determination method of reasonable hydro-graph. As a result, the authors suggested that at least over 57 hours of rising ordinary water level and over 53 hours of lasting flood water level should be considered for the design hydro-graph of sluice gate in levee at Mun-san-jae.

The Guidelines for Station Layouts and Their Assessments in Railroad Transfer Centers (철도 환승센터의 시설배치기준 및 평가방안)

  • The mass transit networks in Korea, such as buses, metro and subway, are co-related and the number of transfer points, in which a lot of pedestrian movement is generated, are rising. The functions of the transfer centers, in which several travel modes cross at a point, have to include convenience and comfort for pedestrians using the transfer centers, and such functions can make transit a more attractive travel option and thus eventually contribute to increases in ridership. However, the guidelines for station layouts and their assessments in transfer stations are not suggested so far. So the pedestrian pattern data (pedestrian walking distances and times, pedestrian approaching distances and times, pedestrian walking paths in the inside of stations) was collected and analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, the ways to measure the quality of comfort for those who using transfer facilities were suggested using the times that pedestrians consume to transfer from a travel mode to another. The walking time of pedestrians at the inside of stations was also measured by pre-selected pedestrian pathways as the guidelines for station layout assessment in transfer facilities.

  • People are experiencing severe problems in temporal navigation as time-based contents and platforms become more popular Relatively limited research, however, has been conducted on temporal navigation compared to that on spatial navigation. This research aims to identify efficient temporal navigation aids for time-based contents. It proposes Time Navigator, a new temporal navigation system based on the episodic indexing theory, and evaluates its efficiency through two experiments with a computer-based simulator for digital TV The video contents of digital TV was focused on because it is one of the most representative time-based contents and platforms. Our results indicate that Time Navigator helps people navigate time -based contents more effectively. Its effects increase as the contents include more narratives.

Shortest-Frame-First Scheduling Algorithm of Threads On Multithreaded Models (다중스레드 모델에서 최단 프레임 우선 스레드 스케줄링 알고리즘)

  • Because FIFO thread scheduling used in the existing multithreaded models does not consider locality in programs, it may result in the decrease of the performance of execution, caused by the frequent context switching overhead and delay of execution of relatively short frames. Quantum unit scheduling enhances the performance a little, but it still has the problems such as the decrease in the processor utilization and the longer delay due to its heavy dependency on the priority of the quantum units. In this paper, we propose shortest-frame-first(SFF) thread scheduling algorithm. Our algorithm selects and schedules the frame that is expected to take the shortest execution time using thread size and synchronization information analyzed at compile-time. We can estimate the relative execution time of each frame at compile-time. Using SFF thread scheduling algorithm on the multithreaded models, we can expect the faster execution, better utilization of the processor, increased throughput and short waiting time compared to FIFO scheduling.

  • The Intermittent Aeration MBR systems have the advantage of controlling reaction time by changing aeration period and are one of economic BNR systems since these processes do not require MLSS recirculation that demands capital and operation costs. In this study, two intermittent aeration MBR systems were studied by computer simulation: an intermittent aeration MBR system that had both 1hr/1hr and 4hr/4hr aeration/unaeration periods at intermittent reactor and NEW INTERMITTENT-process that was an energy saving process and certified as a new process by Korean government. Since DO concentration reached only at 0.23mg/L at intermittent reactor when it was aerated, the Intermittent aeration MBR system having 1hr/1hr aeration/unaeration period showed simultaneous nitrification/denitrification and had the highest nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiencies that were 57% and 55%, respectively. Since this study was based on the constant influent flow and characteristics, more studies are needed to define the operational characteristics of intermittent aeration MBR systems under dynamic influent conditions.

Investigation of a Left-Turn Phase Time Estimation Method for TRC Operation (실시간 신호시스템의 좌회전 신호시간 추정방법에 관한 연구 (검지기 장애발생시를 중심으로))

  • The current left-turn split model adopted in COSMOS has an inherent limitation when a loop detector in the left-turn lanes was disconnected for a period of time. In this instance, the current model always allocated minimum green time to the left-turn phase, thus optimal split and efficient signal operation for the intersection was not guaranteed. In this paper, four mathmatical models using detector information of the intersection and four empirical models using historical profiles were developed and investigated for different traffic conditions to improve the operational efficiency of the intersection. From the model evaluation test, the empirical model using a four-week historical profile produced the least error among the eight models investigated. NETSIM simulation test results also showed that the proposed model could give significantly reduced delay time as compared to the current model. From these results, the operational efficency of the signalized intersections under the real-time control can be greatly improved by using the model proposed in case of the left-turn detector failure.

  • In South Korea, seasonal, local and temporal climatic characteristics are variable in rainfall patterns. To design or assess the reliability of hydrosystem, information about the rainfall event under consideration is important. In this process, the complete description of a design storm involves the specification of rainfall duration, depth, and its temporal pattern. Generally, to use an appropriate temporal pattern for a design storm is of great importance in the design and evaluation of hydrological safety for hydrosystem. For purpose of selecting of factors affecting the occurrence of rainfall patterns, Huff's dimensionless method was executed and examined by statistical contingency tables analysis through which the inter-dependence of the occurrence frequency of rainfall patterns with respect to geographical location, rainfall duration and depth, and seasonality is investigated. This analysis result can be used to establish flood policies and to design or assess the reliability of hydrosystem.
