USE OF TRAINING DATA TO ESTIMATE THE SMOOTHING PARAMETER FOR BAYESIAN IMAGE RECONSTRUCTION

  • We consider the problem of determining smoothing parameters of Gibbs priors for Bayesian methods used in the medical imaging application of emission tomographic reconstruction. We address a simple smoothing prior (membrane) whose global hyperparameter (the smoothing parameter) controls the bias/variance tradeoff of the solution. We base our maximum-likelihood (ML) estimates of hyperparameters on observed training data, and argue the motivation for this approach. Good results are obtained with a simple ML estimate of the smoothing parameter for the membrane prior.

  • 본 논문에서는 압전체의 3차원 유한 요소 해석을 통해 압전체의 공진 특성을 해석하였으며 이를 실험적으로 검증하였다. 검증된 유한요소법을 압전 외팔보(Piezoelectric Bimorph cantilever)에 적용하여 임피던스 해석을 수행하였으며 실험 결과와 비교하여 해석의 타당성을 검증하였다. 또한 팬용 압전 외팔보의 공진 특성 해석을 통해 공진 주파수, 변위 및 편향각을 계산하였다. 이를 통해 펀용 압전 외팔보의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다.

  • 강수 및 침투 등으로 발생하는 지하수위의 변동을 예측하는 것은 지하수 자원의 활용 및 관리에 필수적이다. 지하수위의 변동은 지하수 자원의 활용 및 관리뿐만이 아닌 홍수 발생과 지반의 응력상태 등에 직접적인 영향을 미치기 때문에 정확한 예측이 필요하다. 본 연구는 인공신경망 중 다층퍼셉트론(Multi Layer Perceptron, MLP)을 이용한 지하수위 예측성능 향상을 위해 MLP의 구조 중 Optimizer를 개량하였다. MLP는 입력자료와 출력자료간 최적의 상관관계(가중치 및 편향)를 찾는 Optimizer와 출력되는 값을 결정하는 활성화 함수의 연산을 반복하여 학습한다. 특히 Optimizer는 신경망의 출력값과 관측값의 오차가 최소가 되는 상관관계를 찾는 연산자로써 MLP의 학습 및 예측성능에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 기존의 Optimizer는 경사하강법(Gradient Descent, GD)을 기반으로 하는 Optimizer를 사용했다. 하지만 기존의 Optimizer는 미분을 이용하여 상관관계를 찾기 때문에 지역탐색 위주로 진행되며 기존에 생성된 상관관계를 저장하는 구조가 없어 지역 최적해로 수렴할 가능성이 있다는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존 Optimizer의 단점을 개선하기 위해 지역탐색과 전역탐색을 동시에 고려할 수 있으며 기존의 해를 저장하는 구조가 있는 메타휴리스틱 최적화 알고리즘을 이용하였다. 메타휴리스틱 최적화 알고리즘 중 구조가 간단한 화음탐색법(Harmony Search, HS)과 GD의 결합모형(HS-GD)을 MLP의 Optimizer로 사용하여 기존 Optimizer의 단점을 개선하였다. HS-GD를 이용한 MLP의 성능검토를 위해 이천시 지하수위 예측을 실시하였으며 예측 결과를 기존의 Optimizer를 이용한 MLP 및 HS를 이용한 MLP의 예측결과와 비교하였다.

Reliability Estimation of Static Design Methods for Driven Steel Pipe Piles in Korea (국내 항타강관말뚝 설계법의 신뢰성평가)

  • As a part of Load and Resistance Factor Design(LRFD) code development in Korea, in this paper an intensive reliability analysis was performed to evaluate reliability levels of the two static bearing capacity methods for driven steel pipe piles adopted in Korean Standards for Structure Foundations by the representative reliability methods of First Order Reliability Method(FORM) and Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS). The resistance bias factors for the two static design methods were evaluated by comparing the representative measured bearing capacities with the design values. In determination of the representative bearing capacities of driven steel pipe piles, the 58 data sets of static load tests and soil property tests were collected and analyzed. The static bearing capacity formula and the Meyerhof method using N values were applied to the calculation of the expected design bearing capacity of the piles. The two representative reliability methods(FORM, MCS) based computer programs were developed to facilitate the reliability analysis in this study. Mean Value First Order Second Moment(MVFOSM) approach that provides a simple closed-form solution and two advanced methods of FORM and MCS were used to conduct the intensive reliability analysis using the resistance bias factor statistics obtained, and the results were then compared. In addition, a parametric study was conducted to identify the sensibility and the influence of the random variables on the reliability analysis under consideration.

In this study, for cell probabilities in a I by J independent contingency tables, exact MLE and step-wise estimation methods are applied and the results are compared using MSE and Bias.

  • The framework act on resource circulation was got through the Korea National Assembly in May, 2016. It is the most important to analyze and understand its purpose, main contents, and policy direction of the framework act because this act will lead the resource circulation policy. Korea government is going to enact subordinate statutes such as its enforcement decree and regulation to enforce the act in January, 2018. No later than enforcement of the act, its subordinate statutes should be studied indepth and consulted without any bias in order to satisfy the intent - promotion of transition toward a resource circulation society - of the act. Therefore, in this study, the points in dispute in the act are indicated and the issues and specific directions of key articles are reviewed. The ideas to maximize the effectiveness of its subordinate statutes are also suggested.

Resistance Factor and Target Reliability Index Calculation of Static Design Methods for Driven Steel Pipe Pile in Gwangyang (광양지역에 적합한 항타강관말뚝의 목표신뢰성지수 및 저항계수 산정)

  • Recently, the necessity of developing the load and resistance factor design(LRFD) for soft ground improvement method has been raised, since the limit state design is requested as international technical standard for the foundation of structures. In this study, to develop LRFD codes for foundation structures in Korea, target reliability index and resistance factor for static bearing capacity of driven steel pipe piles were calibrated in the framework of reliability theory. The 16 data(in Gwangyang) and the 57 data(Korea Institute of Construction Technology, 2008) sets of static load test and soil property tests conducted in the whole domestic area were collected along with available subsurface investigation results. The resistance bias factors were evaluated for the tow static design methods by comparing the representative measured bearing capacities with the expected design values. Reliability analysis was performed by two types of advanced methods : the First Order Reliability Method (FORM), and the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method using resistance bias factor statistics. As a result, when target reliability indices of the driven pipe pile were selected as 2.0, 2.33, 2.5, resistance factor of two design methods for SPT N at pile tip less than 50 were evaluated as 0.611~0.684, 0.537~0.821 respectively, and STP N at pile tip more than 50 were evaluated as 0.545~0.608, 0.643~0.749 respectively. The result from this research will be useful for developing various foundations and soil structures under LRFD.

Target Reliability Indices of Static Design Methods for Driven Steel Pipe Piles in Korea (국내 항타강관말뚝 설계법의 목표 신뢰도지수)

The static bearing capacity formula and the Meyerhof method using N values are applied to calculate the expected design bearing capacity of the piles. The resistance bias factors were evaluated for the two static design methods by comparing the representative bearing capacities with the design values. Reliability analysis was performed by two types of advanced methods: First Order Reliability Method (FORM), and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method using resistance bias factor statistics. The static bearing capacity formula exhibited relatively small variation, whereas the Meyerhof method showed relatively high inherent conservatism in the resistance bias factors. Reliability indices for safety factors in the range of 3 to 5 were evaluated respectively as 1.50~2.89 and 1.61~2.72 for both of the static bearing capacity formula and the Meyerhof method. The target reliability indices are selected as 2.0 and 2.33 for group pile case and 2.5 for single pile case, based on the reliability level of the current design practice and considering redundancy of pile group, acceptable risk level, construction quality control, and significance of individual structure.

Relationship Between Local Wall Thinning and Velocity Components of Deflected Turbulent Flow Inside the Tee Sections of Carbon Steel Piping (탄소강 배관 티에서 편향 난류유동에 따른 속도성분과 국부감육의 상관관계)

  • The aim of this study is to identify the locations at which local wall thinning occurs and to determine the turbulence coefficients related to local wall thinning. Experiments and numerical analyses of the tee sections of different down-scaled piping components were performed and the results were compared. Numerical analyses of full-scale models of actual plants were performed in order to simulate the flow behaviors inside the piping components. In order to determine the relationship between the turbulence coefficients and the rate of local wall thinning, numerical analyses of the tee components in the main feedwater systems were performed. The turbulence coefficients obtained from the numerical analyses were compared with the local wear rate obtained from the measurement data. From the comparison of the results, the vertical flow velocity component (Vr) flowing to the wall after separating in the wall due to the geometrical configuration and colliding with the wall directly at an angle of some degree was analogous to the configuration of local wall thinning.
