  • In this paper, we propose a generating method for the optimal rules for the nonlinear control system using evolution algorithms and fuzzy controller. With the aid of evolution algorithms optimal rules of fuzzy logic system can be automatic designed without human expert's priori experience and. knowledge. and ran be intelligent control. The approachpresented here generating rules by self-tuning the parameters of membership functions and searchs the optimal control rules based on a fitness value which Is tile defined performance criterion. Computer simulations demonstrates the usefulness of the proposed method In non -linear systems.

  • The flight control of aircraft, which has nonlinear time-varying dynamic characteristics depending on the various and unexpected external conditions, can be performed on two motions: longitudinal motion and lateral motion. In the longitudinal motion control of aircraft, pitch and trust are major control parameters and roll and yaw are control ones in the lateral motion control. Until now, a number of efficient and reliable control schemes that can guarantee the stability and maneuverability of the aircraft have been developed. Recently, the intelligent flight control scheme, which differs from the conventional control strategy requiring the various and complicate procedures such as the wind tunnel and environmental experiments, has attracted attention. In this paper, an intelligent longitudinal control scheme has been proposed utilizing Interval Type-2 fuzzy logic which can be recognized as a representative intelligent control methodology. The results will be verified through computer simulation with a F-4 jet fighter.

A Study on the Modified Construction Method far Sasaki Fuzzy Controller (Sasaki 퍼지제어기에 대한 개선된 구성방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed a new circuit construction method that reduces the number of circuit devices of fuzzy controller. Sasaki had defined a new operator to eliminate the divide circuit comparing with the center of gravity method which often using to design the fuzzy controller. In this paper we obtained the more compacted fuzzy controller's circuit by using the proposed definition of fuzzification and defuzzification than using the Sasaki's method and the fuzzification and defuzzification are reverse operation each other. Using these definitions we exhibit the new design method and circuit structure that can eliminate the bounded product(BP) circuit included in Sasaki's circuit. Using the proposed method to level controlling of the water tank, we verified the fuzzy controller's performance by using existent method and proposed method. As a result that are calculated by using the Proposed fuzzy controller to level controlling of the water tank, total numbers of blocks and devices were decreased. If the number of variables and antecedents are Be11ing larger, this method is more efficient.

Design and Evaluation of a Fuzzy Logic-based Selective Paging Method for Wireless Mobile Networks (무선 이동망을 위한 퍼지 논리 기반 선택적 페이징 방법의 설계 및 평가)

  • State-of-the-art wireless communication networks allow dynamic relocation of mobile terminals. A location management mechanism is required to keep track of a mobile terminal for delivering incoming calls. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic-based selective paging method to reduce paging cost. In the proposed fuzzy logic-based location management method, the location update uses the area-based method that uses direction-based together with movement-based methods, and the location search uses the fuzzy logic-based selective paging method based on the mobility information of mobile terminals. A partial candidate paging area is selected by fuzzy control rules, then the fuzzy logic-based selective paging method pages only the cells within the partial candidate paging area. The performance of proposed fuzzy logic-based location management method is to be evaluated by both an analytical model and a simulation, and is compared with those of LA and BVP methods. From these evaluation results, we know that the proposed fuzzy logic-based location management method provide better performance than other location management methods.

  • Nowadays the traffic conditions have been getting worse due to continuous increase in the number of vehicles. So it has become more important to manage traffic signal lights efficiently. Recently fuzzy logic is introduced to control the cycle time of traffic lights adaptively. Conventional fuzzy logic controller adjusts the extension time of current green phase by using the fuzzy input variables such as the number of entering vehicles at the green light and the number of waiting vehicle during the red light. However this scheme is inadequate for an intersection with variable traffic densities. In this paper, a new FLC with asymmetric membership functions that reflects more exactly traffic flows than other FLCs with symmetric ones regardless of few control rules is propsed. The effectiveness of the proposed method was shown through simulation of a single intersection. The experimental results yielded the superior performance of the proposed FLC in terms of the average delay time, the number of passed vehicles, and the degree of saturation.

  • A systematic procedure to design fuzzy PID controllers is developed in this paper. The concept of local fuzzy control cell is proposed by introducing both an adequate global control rule and membership functions to simplify a fuzzy logic controller. Fuzzy decision is made by using algebraic product and parallel firing arithematic mean, and a defuzzification strategy is adopted for improving the computational efficiency based on nonfuzzy micro-processor. A direct method, transforming the typical output of quasi-linear fuzzy operator to the digital compensator of PID form, is also proposed. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to an DC-servo motor. It is found that this algorithm is systematic and robust through computer simulations and implementation of controller using Intel 8097 micro-processor.

  • It is essential for a fuzzy logic controller to have an appropriate set of rules to perform at the desired level. The linguistic structure of the fuzzy logic controller allows a tentative linguistic policy to be used as an initial rule base. At the design stage, if one can reasonably assemble a good collection of rules, it may then be possible to be tuned to improve the controller performance. In this paper, we proposed the shifting method of rule base table to improve the performance of fuzzy controller. The proposed method is based on the principle of that the effect of the output to regulate the system would be greater when the error increases and the effect of output would be less when the error decreases. According to simulation results, it is an effective method to improve the fuzzy control rule base and the performance of fuzzy logic controllers.

  • The World Wide Web provides new opportunities for cyber education over the Internet. The web, when combined with other network tools, can be used to provide useful educational information to learners. Thus, the objective of this paper is to develop Java applet for understanding the concept of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) on the Internet. The developed Java Applet is composed of four frames: fuzzifier, rulebase, inference engine and defuzzifier. Since data transmission can be achieved from one frame to other frames, users can easily observe and understand the process of FLC. The results of this paper can be used to improve the efficiency of lectures in the cyber university.

  • This paper proposes an optimal COA(Center Of Area) defuzzification method that improves the contr~lp erformance of a fuzzy logic controller. The defuzzification method incorporates both the membership values and the effective span of membership function6 in calculating a crisp value. An optimal effective span is determined automatically by the genetic algorithm thrqugh the training of some typical examples. Simulation of the proposed COA defuzzifier to the truck backer-upper control problem is presented and the control performance of the praposed COA defuzzifier outperforms that of the conventional COA defuzzifier by more than 20% in terms of ayerage tracing distance.

Vibration Control of Adjacent Buildings using a Smart Sky-bridge (스마트 스카이브릿지를 이용한 인접건물의 진동제어)

  • In this study, a smart sky-bridge composed of MR damper and FPS has been proposed and vibration control performance of a smart sky-bridge for the connected buildings was investigated. To this end, 10-story and 20-story building structures connected by a smart sky-bridge were selected as example structures and El Centro and Kobe earthquakes, which have near and far fault ground motion characteristics respectively, were used for time history analyses. In order to effectively control the smart sky-bridge, fuzzy logic controller was developed and multi-objective genetic algorithm was used to optimize fuzzy logic controllers. Based on optimization results, it has been seen that there is a trade-off between seismic responses of 10-story and 20-story buildings and a suite of Pareto optimal solutions of fuzzy logic controllers for seismic response control can be obtained by multi-objective genetic algorithm. It is shown from numerical study that seismic responses of adjacent buildings can be efficiently controlled by using a smart sky-bridge.
