  • The underwater transients signals contain the characteristics of complexity, time varying, nonlinear, and short duration. So it is very hard to model for these signals with reference patterns. In this paper we separate the whole length of signals into some short duration of constant length with overlapping frame by frame. The 20th LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) coefficients are extracted from the original signals using Durbin algorithm and applied to neural network. The 65% of whole signals were learned and 35% of the signals were tested in the neural network with two hidden layers. The types of the whales for sound classification are Blue whale, Dulsae whale, Gray whale, Humpback whale, Minke whale, and Northern Right whale. Finally, we could obtain more than 83% of classification rate from the test signals.

  • The main aim of this paper is to analyze the influence of the particular social geographical characteristics and the historical background of an area on the thinking and attitudes of its Japanese locals towards immigrant residents. The results of my research suggest the following three points. Firstly, Japanese locals who were strongly attached to their communities were likely to avoid foreign residents. In the areas where new residents were dominant in the community local people were relatively open and accepting to foreign residents. Secondly, age and occupation were influential factors that made some impact on the attitudes of Japanese locals towards foreign residents. When local and foreign residents carried out the same type of occupations Japanese locals were antagonistic with immigrant residents. Finally, the feelings and attitudes of Japanese locals towards migrant residents deeply affected the policies of local governments with regard to treatment of foreign residents, while the policies of local governments for foreign residents might influence the thinking of Japanese local residents about the foreign residents.

  • Metal thin film patterns on a LTCC substrate, which was connected through inner via and metal paste for electrical signals, were formed by a screen printing process that used electric paste, such as silver and copper, in a conventional method. This method brought about many problems, such as non uniform thickness in printing, large line spaces, and non-clearance. As a result of these problems, it was very difficult to perform fine and high resolution for high frequency signals. In this study, the electric signal patterns were formed with the sputtered metal thin films (Ti, Cu) on an LTCC substrate that was coated with protective oxide layers, such as $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$. These electric signal patterns' morphology, surface bonding strength, and effect on electro plating were also investigated. After putting a sold ball on the sputtered metal thin films, their adhesion strength on the LTCC substrate was also evaluated. The protective oxide layers were found to play important roles in creating a strong design for electric components and integrating circuit modules in high frequency ranges.

  • Structural damage is used to be modeled through reductions in the stiffness of structural elements for the purpose of damage estimation of structural system. In this study, the concept of joint damage is employed for more realistic damage assessment of a steel structure. The joint damage is estimated damage based on the mode shape informations using neural networks, The beam-to-column connection in a steel frame structure is represented by a rotational spring at the fixed end of a beam element. The severity of joint damage is defined as the reduction ratio of the connection stiffness with respect to the value of the intact joint. The concept of the substructural identification is used for the localized damage assessment in a large structure. The feasibility of the proposed method is examined using an example with simulated data. It has been found that the joint damages can be reasonably estimated for the case with the measurements of the mode vectors subjected to noise.

  • One of problems related with water curtain cultivation (WCC) in Korea includes severe declination of groundwater levels during the peak season, and it is likely that the problem can be resolved efficiently when the connection characteristics between groundwater and stream are well understood. This study examined temperature, and oxygen/hydrogen stable isotopic compositions of the flowing groundwater to understand the connection between stream and ground water, and the influence of stream water on the nearby aquifer. This study was performed in Wangjeon-ri (Kwangseok-myon, Nonsan City), the well-known strawberry town using WCC technique. The sampling was done during February 2010 through June 2011 for both groundwaters and nearby streams. Temperature distribution pattern indicates that stream widely affected groundwater in the right part of WCC ara. In the left part, the influence of stream seems to occur narrowly near the stream. The similar phenomenon is reflected in the oxygen and hydrogen isotopic data.

  • This study investigated the spatial and temporal water circulation characteristics of Paldang Reservoir by continuous hydraulic and water temperature survey. Due to differences in water temperature and discharge pattern of Ipo Weir and Cheongpyeong Dam, the flow and temperature fluctuations were different in sections of Namhan River and Bukhan River in Paldang Reservoir. At the stratification period, the water temperature of the discharge of Ipo Weir was higher than that of the Cheongpyeong Dam. Therefore, in the surface layer of the downstream of Bukhan River, relatively high temperature water is located and back water phenomenon occurred, and convergence zone is formed. In the downstream section of Namhan River, low-temperature water was distributed in the middle and lower layers, and the upstream flow appeared to be difficult to mix with the surface layer.

  • In this paper, we formed perovskite (CH3NH3PbI3) thin films on glass with wet coating methods, and used various analytical techniques to discuss film thickness, surface roughness, crystallinity, composition, and optical property. The coated semiconductor material has no defects and is uniform, the surface roughness value is very small, and a high absorption rate has been observed in the visible light area. Next, in order to implement the hole shape in the organic-inorganic layer, Samples in the order of a metal mask with holes at regular intervals, a glass coated with a perovskite material, and a magnet were etched with atmospheric pressure plasma equipment. The shape of the hole formed in the perovskite material was analyzed by changing the time. It can be seen that more etching is performed as the time increases. The sample with the longest processing time was examined in more detail, and it was classified into 7 regions by the difference according to the location of the plasma.

  • Open hole strength of composite laminates is often used as the design allowable strength for designing composite aircraft structures, particularly those structures subjected to impact loading. Generally, the degradation of strength due to a barely visible impact damage (BVID) is assumed as the strength of 6.0 mm hole diameter in 24.0 mm width specimen. In this study, the residual strength static tests of composite laminates containing circular holes have been performed to investigate the effects of fiber orientation structure on open hole strength. The point stress criterion using a characteristic length is used to predict the open hole strength. The finite element analysis has been used to validate the analytical method. From the test results, it is shown that the characteristic length is related to the percentage of 0°, ±45° and 90° plies of the laminate. And regression analysis has performed to determine the characteristic length and strength of no hole specimens on the arbitrary layup pattern.

  • Carbon/epoxy composite bipolar plate (BP) is a BP that is likely to replace existing graphite bipolar plate of vanadium redox flow cell (VRFB) due to its high mechanical properties and productivity. Multi-functional carbon/epoxy composite BP requires graphite coating or additional surface treatment to reduce interfacial contact resistance (ICR). However, the expanded graphite coating has the disadvantage of having low durability under VRFB operating conditions, and the surface treatments incur additional costs. In this work, an excessive resin absorption method is developed, which uniformly removes the resin rich area on the surface of the BP to expose carbon fibers by applying polyester fabric. This method not only reduces ICR by exposing carbon fibers to BP surfaces, but also forms a unique ditch pattern that can effectively hold carbon felt electrodes in place. The acidic environmental durability, mechanical properties, and gas permeability of the developed carbon/epoxy composite BP are experimentally verified.

  • We demonstrated roll-to-roll microcontact printed (mCP) microlens array (MLA) to enhance the light extraction of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The commercially provided microlens array is used as a template for polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) roll stamp. The fluorinated film is formed on the PDMS roll stamp from fluorinated ink with low boiling point and printed onto the bottom side of the organic light emitting diode without high pressure and high thermal treatment. With optimized concentration of ink, the pattern which is almost identical to that of the template MLA was successfully printed. Due to the structure and low optical absorbance of microcontact printed MLA, the external quantum efficiency of OLED was improved by about 18%.
