Recent attention has been drawn to materials that undergo reversible expansion and contraction in response to external stimuli, leading to morphological changes. These materials hold potential applications in various fields including soft robotics, sensors, and artificial muscles. In this study, a novel material capable of responding to high temperatures for protection or encapsulation is proposed. To achieve this, liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) with nematic-isotropic transition properties and polyimide (PI) with high mechanical strength and thermal stability were utilized. To utilize a solution process, a dope solution was synthesized and introduced into micro-printing techniques to develop a two-dimensional pattern of LCE/PI bilayer structures with sub-millimeter widths. The honeycomb-patterned LCE/PI bilayer mesh combined the mechanical strength of PI with the high-temperature contraction behavior of LCE, and selective printing of LCE facilitated deformation in desired directions at high temperatures. Consequently, the functionality of selectively and reversibly encapsulating specific high-temperature materials was achieved. This study suggests potential applications in various actuator fields where functionalities can be implemented across different temperature ranges without the need for electrical energy input, contingent upon molecular changes in LCE.
Emotion affects many parts of human life such as learning ability, behavior and judgment. It is important to understand human nature. Emotion can only be inferred from facial expressions or gestures, what it actually is. In particular, emotion is difficult to classify not only because individuals feel differently about emotion but also because visually induced emotion does not sustain during whole testing period. To solve the problem, we acquired bio-signals and extracted features from those signals, which offer objective information about emotion stimulus. The emotion pattern classifier was composed of unsupervised learning algorithm with hidden nodes and feature vectors. Restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM) based on probability estimation was used in the unsupervised learning and maps emotion features to transformed dimensions. The emotion was characterized by non-linear classifiers with hidden nodes of a multi layer neural network, named deep belief network (DBN). The accuracy of DBN (about 94 %) was better than that of back-propagation neural network (about 40 %). The DBN showed good performance as the emotion pattern classifier.

Two-step metallization processes have been proposed to achieve high-efficiency silicon solar cells, where the front-side grids are formed by silver plating after the formation of a nickel seed layer with a mask. Because the conventional mask patterning process is performed by an expensive selective printing method using either UV resist or phase change ink, however, the combination of a simple coating and laser-selective ablation processes is proposed in this study as an alternative means. As a masking material, the solar cell wafer was coated with either inexpensive wax having a low melting temperature or a fluorocarbon solution, and then, an electrode image was patterned by selectively removing the masking material using the laser. It was found that the fluorocarbon coating was not only superior to the wax coating in terms of pattern uniformity but it also increased the efficiency of the solar cell by 0.16%, as confirmed by statistical f and t tests.
In the UV-NIL process using an elementwise patterned stamp (EPS), which includes channels formed to separate each element with patterns, low-viscosity resin droplets with a nano-liter volume are dispensed on all elements of the EPS. Following pressing of the EPS, the EPS is illuminated with UV-light to cure the resin; and then the EPS is separated from several thin patterned elements on a wafer. Experiments on UV-NIL were performed on an EVG620-NIL. 50 - 100nm features of the EPS with 3m channels were successfully transferred to 4 in. wafers. Especially, the wafer deformation during imprint was analyzed using the finite element method (FEM) in order to study the effect of the wafer deformation on the UV-NIL using EPS.
Selective area epitaxy of multiple-stacked InP/InGaAs structures were grown by chemical beam epitaxy. The width of top of the multiple-stacked InP/InGaAs layer which were selectively grown on the stripe lines parallel to the <011> direction was narrowed, while the width of top of the multiple-stacked InP/InGaAs layer on the stripe lines parallel to the <01-1> was widen. This difference according to the <011> and <01-1> direction was explained by the growth of InGaAs <311>A and B faces on the (100) InP surface on the stripe lines parallel to the <01-1> direction. Under growth rate of $1\;{\mu}m/h$, top of the multiple-stacked InP/InGaAs was flattened as the pressure of group V gas was decreased. This phenomenon was understood by the saturation of group V element on the surface.
The purpose of this study is to develope an appropriate method of the household projection in Korea. Given the data constraints, the headship rate method is selected. This method is known to be responsive to changes in demographic factors related to household formation. To project future headship rates, the method of net transition rates based on the average of two-census intervals was adopted for household heads ages 35 and over, while the log-linear formula was employed for those aged under 35. The future headship rate of Korean males shows a one-peak pattern with plateau, whereas that of Korean females marks a two-peak pattern. For a better projection of household in the future, one-person households should be treated more carefully, because they are mostly either young adults or the elderly whose activities of household formation and dissolution are very hard to forecast.

In this paper, the impedance-tuned monopole microstrip antenna designed for PCS is analyzed using finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. The perfectly matched layer(PML) absorbing material condition proposed by Berenger is used for the truncation of finite difference time domain lattice. A Gaussian pulse is selected as an excitation signal and a resistive voltage source model is used to reduce the error caused by the reflection waves. The FDTD method is inherently a near field technique. Therefore, the near field to far field transformation is need to compute far field antenna parameters such as radiation patterns and gain. The near field to far field transformation can be done both in the time domain and the frequency domain. We use the frequency domain transformation to compute the far field radiation patterns at single frequency. All the numerical results obtained by the FDTD method are compared with simulation results using the HFSS software. Good agreements are obtained in all cases.

The selective area growth of GaN by metal organic chemical vapor deposition has been carried out on GaN/ sapphire substrate using $SiO_2$ mask. We investgated the effect of growth parameters such as flow rate of $NH_3$(500~1300sccm) and the growth temperature(TEX>$950~1060^{\circ}C$) on the growth selectivity and characteristics of GaN using the Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM). The selectivity of GaN improved as flow rate of NH, and growth temperature increased. But the grown GaN shapes on the substrate windows was independent of the flow rate of $NH_3$. On the pattern shapes such as circle, stripe, and radiational pattern(rotate the stripe pattern by $30^{\circ}, 45^{\circ}$), we observed the hexagonal pyramid, the lateral over growth on the mask layer, and the difference of the lateral growth rate depending on growth condition.

Recently, autonomous vehicles have been actively studied. Pedestrian detection and recognition technology is important in autonomous vehicles. Pedestrian detection using CNN(Convolutional Neural Netwrok), which is mainly used recently, generally shows good performance, but there is a performance degradation depending on the environment of the image. In this paper, we propose a pedestrian detection system applying long-term memory structure of hippocampal neural network based on CNN network with LGP-FL (Local Gradient Pattern-Feature Layer) added. First, change the input image to a size of $227{\times}227$. Then, the feature is extracted through a total of 5 layers of convolution layer. In the process, LGP-FL adds the LGP feature pattern and stores the high-frequency pattern in the long-term memory. In the detection process, it is possible to detect the pedestrian more accurately by detecting using the LGP feature pattern information robust to brightness and color change. A comparison of the existing methods and the proposed method confirmed the increase of detection rate of about 1~4%.
