  • This article considers short-form fashion videos as distinguished from fashion films, defines the concept, details the expressive characteristics of short-form fashion video, and reveals the method of producing it. For the methodology, a literature review was conducted to derive the concept and expression techniques. A case study was also performed to define the expressive characteristics. Five short-form fashion videos were also produced based on the results. The final results are as follows. First, short-form fashion video was defined as a fashion medium on the purpose of fashion communication within 60 seconds and classified by three digital image formats. Second, the result of analyzing the expression of the short-form fashion video shows the simplicity and reconstitution, characterization and remediation, borderless and expansion, and synesthesia trigger of the fashion image. Third, five short-form fashion videos were produced based on the theme of the digital garden. It shows that the short-form fashion video intensively expresses the content as a medium whose sensational expression is more prominent than the composition of the story by the short running time that reflects the taste of digital mainstream.

  • This study aimed to examine the effect of ad attributes on engagement, the mediating effect of engagement on the relationship between ad attributes and advertising effectiveness (attitudes toward ads, continuous intention to search, and e-WOM intention), and the differences in advertising effectiveness at different levels (low vs. high) of curiosity toward fashion video ads in the online context. For this purpose, a total of 408 responses were collected from consumers who were aged 20-40 years and had viewed fashion video ads via PC/mobile channels in the preceding six months. The results showed that three advertising attributes, namely informativeness, entertainment, and personalization, were significant predictors of engagement. Additionally, engagement had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between entertainment and ad effectiveness. Moreover, both informativeness and entertainment had a significant direct effect on the behavioral intention to search and engage in e-WOM. At the high-curiosity level, engagement had a significant influence on ad attitudes and e-WOM intention. In contrast, at the low-curiosity level, entertainment had a significant influence on e-WOM intention and continuous intention to search. These findings are meaningful in that they extend the advertising attitude model to fashion video ads in the online context.

  • This paper examines the use of semiotics for analyzing fashion advertisements in the fast fashion industry. While previous studies have explored the use of semiotics in various industries, the application of this theory in the fashion sector-especially regarding fast fashion's commercial videos related to sustainability-remains underexplored. The paper adopts Roland Barthes' Semiotics Theory to analyze the advertising videos related to the sustainability of major fast fashion brands such as H&M, MANGO, and ZARA. The research approach involved reviewing all commercial videos related to sustainability on these brands' official YouTube accounts and conducting comprehensive analyses of advertisements using the binary opposition analysis framework. The paper's findings indicate that these commercial videos serve as a platform to mold a brand's sustainability image and promote the notion that fast fashion brands are leading the charge toward sustainability, preparing for an unpredictable future, guiding people toward hope, and offering ultimate freedom. This research high-lights the necessity for a critical examination of advertising videos related to sustainability in the fast fashion industry to guarantee accountability and transparency.

  • The fashion industry has been actively responding to the digital transformation, enhancing its competitiveness through the integration of digital technology. This study aims to uncover emerging trends in integrating Augmented Reality (AR) technology within digital marketing for the fashion industry. By examining literature on Digital transformation of the fashion Industry and AR technology employed in fashion marketing, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of AR's impact on digital fashion industry. In-depth interviews with experts in digital media, visual design, jewelry design, 3D animation, clothing design, digital fashion reveal that AR technology can enhance the user experience in digital fashion industry from four key aspects: enhancing shopping convenience, introducing fun interactive experiences, enriching aesthetic experiences, and facilitating online socializing. Our findings suggest that Augmented Reality technology will not only enhance user experience but also offer valuable insights for guiding digital marketing strategies in the fashion industry. We also highlights the potential of AR technology to bridge the gap between physical and digital fashion, creating new avenues and horizon for innovation in fashion marketing.

  • While fashion serves as a symbol representing aesthetic discourse. New, multilateral approaches at fashion films deliver creative images and messages through fashion. This study aims to explore expressionistic visual aesthetics and narratives found in fashion films as meaningful content of new media's changing fashion communication strategies, focusing on Gentle Monster. We can better understand the unique purpose of fashion films by analyzing their aesthetic strategies for conveying branding message. The case studies included six episodes of campaign fashion films posted on Gentle Monster's official YouTube channel from 2015 to 2018. The fashion films of Gentle Monster consistently deliver the brand's creative imagination reflecting expressionistic visual aesthetics and unconscious desires, such as conveying intense emotions with extreme juxtaposition, visual development of strange and distorted narratives, and novel compositions of technical and surreal imagery. Gentle Monster's films establish resolute brand identity by presenting ideal aesthetics that break away from conventional aesthetics and traditional concepts of beauty.

  • This study analyzed the compositional characteristics of fashion videos and the characteristics of fashion design spreading as trends through Subversive Basics. Literature research and case studies were conducted concurrently. Based on the literature review, an analysis method was designed, focusing on the concept of online video content, Subversive Basics, and the video content type. For the case analysis, videos were collected and classified using Subversive Basics as the keyword. The content was observed, and design features were analyzed. Based on the results, the collected videos were classified into tutorial, curation, and creative content types according to their compositional characteristics. Tutorial content emphasizes practical actions that demonstrate how to make or modify clothing, thereby promoting user-generated content for dissemination. Curation contents provide users with style ideas and information about clothing and purchases to encourage clothing purchases and influence purchase decisions that lead to dissemination through clothing consumption and wear. Creative content showcases the process of modifying and creating clothes to enhance understanding and value of creative design. The characteristics of fashion design utilized in these contents include bold designs with high visual effects as the first category, designs that can be easily and quickly modified due to intentional incompleteness as the second category, and prominently featured body-positive, individualistic designs as the third category. The results of this study can be associated with balanced development between basic design elements and personalized unique designs, catering to consumer needs.

  • Fashion trends are actively disseminated through social media, which influences both their propagation and consumption. This study explored how users perceive subversive basic fashion in social media videos, by examining the associated concepts and characteristics. In addition, the factors contributing to the style's social media dissemination were identified and its distinctive features were analyzed. Through text mining analysis, 80 keywords were selected for semantic network and CONCOR analysis. TF-IDF and N-gram results indicate that subversive basic fashion involves transformative design techniques such as cutting or layering garments, emphasizing the body with thin fabrics, and creating bold visual effects. Topic modeling suggests that this fashion forms a subculture that resists mainstream norms, seeking individuality by creatively transforming the existing garments. CONCOR analysis categorized the style into six groups: forward-thinking unconventional fashion, bold and unique style, creative reworking, item utilization and combination, pursuit of easy and convenient fashion, and contemporary sensibility. Consumer actions, linked to social media, were shown to involve easily transforming and pursuing personalized styles. Furthermore, creating new styles through the existing clothing is seen as an economic and creative activity that fosters network formation and interaction. This study is significant as it addresses language expression limitations and subjectivity issues in fashion image analysis, revealing factors contributing to content reproduction through user-perceived design concepts and social media-conveyed fashion characteristics.
