Investigation into characteristics of bending stiffness and failure for ISB panel (ISB 판넬의 굽힘강성 및 파단특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this research work is to investigate into characteristics of bending stiffness and failure for the ISB ultra-lightweight panel with internally structured material. The expanded metal with a pyramid shape and woven metal are employed as an internally structured material. In order to investigate the characteristics, the specific stiffness and failure map are estimated using the results of three-points bending test. From the results of the experiment, the influence of design parameters of ISB panel on the specific stiffness and failure mode has been found. In addition, it has been shown that ISB panel with expanded metal is prefer to that with woven metal from the view point of optimal design for ISB panel.

A Simplified Approach to the Analysis of the Ultimate Compressive Strength of Welded Stiffened Plates (용접된 보강판의 압축 최종 강도의 간이 해석법)

  • In this paper, a method to calculate the ultimate compressive strength of welded one-sided stiffened plates simply supported along all edges is proposed. At first initial imperfections such as distortions and residual stresses due to welding are predicted by using simplified methods. Then, the collapse modes of the stiffened plate are assumed and collapse loads for each mode are calculated. Among these loads, the lowest value is selected as the ultimate strength of the plate. Collapse modes are assumed as follows ; (1) Overall buckling of the stiffened plate$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener bending (2) Local buckling of the plate part$\rightarrow$Local collapse of the plate part$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener yielding (3) Local buckling of the plate part$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener berthing (4) Local buckling of the plate part$\rightarrow$Local collapse of the plate part$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener tripping. The elastic large deflection analysis based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method is carried out, and plastic analysis assuming hinge lines is also carried out. Collapse load is defined as the cross point of the two analysis curves. This method enables the utimate strength to be calculated with small computing time and a good accuracy. Using the present method, characteristics of the stiffener including torsional rigidity, bending and tripping can also be clarified.

  • Overlap, excessive wide gaps, and errors between blocks during erection process increases cost and man-hour. In this paper, a system to simulate the assembly process is suggested and a plane block assembly of welding deformation with gravity is simulated in consideration of assembly order, deformations and errors occurring in the cutting and forming processes are not considered and welding deformations are acquired by equivalent stiffness and load method from experiments and hull double bottom plane block is assembled on a assembly order by panel method. It is certified that according to the order of assembly, intermediate product shape affects rigidity which affects welding deformations. Assembly order must be considered in the assembly process. It is certified that the gravity has important role in the assembly process.

Stress Intensity Factor for the Cracked Sheet Subjected to Normal Stress and Reinforced with a Plate by Spot Welding (점용접에 의하여 판재로 보강된 균열판의 수직응력에 의한 응력세기계수)

  • The stress intensity factor has been calculated for the cracked plate subjected to remote normal stress and reinforced with a plate by symmetric spot welding. The solution was based on displacement compatibility condition between the cracked sheet and the reinforcement plate. It is shown that the results from the derived equation for stress intensity factor were agreed with previous solutions. The reinforcement effect gets better as a joining spot is closer to the crack tip and the other joining spots become nearer to the crack surface.

  • The press formability analysis of welding parts was studied in the current work by the tailor welded blank. The press formability was tested by means of the flash weldability and the formability for two kinds of materials (SPCC & S35C). The results indicate that SPCC & S35C steel sheets showed good weldability and formability after an optimum welding conditions. The independent operation variables were characterized by strength of welding parts, deformation after the welding, press formability of welding parts and productibility of welding. The weldability and the quality of welding parts of the flashed SPCC steel sheet was superior to those of the S35C steel sheet, since a higher carbon content in steel sheet led to a higher hardness. The experimental results were discussed by the evaluation of the results obtained from tensile test, hardness test, micro-structure and V bending test.

  • 세계적으로 자동차의 안전에 관한 규격 강화와 환경 오염에 대한 인식이 확대되면서 차량의 강성 증대 및 경량화를 위하여 고장력 강판의 사용이 증대되면서, 스프링백에 의한 고장력 강판의 치수불량 문제가 크게 대두되었다. 스프링백에 의한 제품의 품질을 개선 시키기 위하여 다양한 해석방법이 연구되었으며, 현재 이들 프로그램들을 현장에 도입하여 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현장에서 사용하고 있는 판재성형해석 프로그램들의 스프링백 해석 특징을 파악하고 실제 판넬 측정량과 비교하여 해석의 신뢰도를 검증한다.

  • Friction for sheet metal forming affects improvement of deep drawing formability. The deep drawing is affected by many process variables, such as lubricant, blank shapes, shape radius and so on. Especially, lubrication is very important formability factor. In this study, in order to investigate fraction coefficient of sheet metal forming, we examined friction test about three conditions, such as non-lubrication, full lubrication and film lubrication. We measured friction coefficient according to pin load under the conditions like deep drawing die. Mean friction coefficient for film lubrication condition would be very useful value to improve drawability.

  • The stress intensity factor has been calculated theoretically for the cracked plate subjected to remote normal stress and reinforced with a sheet by symmetric seam welding. The singular integral equation was derived based on displacement compatibility condition between the cracked sheet and the reinforcement plate, and solved by means of Erdogran and Gupta's method. The results from the derived equation for stress intensity factor were compared with FEM solutions and seems to be reasonable. The reinforcement effect gets better as welding line is closer to the crack and the stiffness ratio of the cracked plate and the reinforcement sheet becomes larger.

Estimation of Young's and Shear Moduli of a Core in ISB Panel with Woven Metal as Inner Structures (망형 직조 금속을 내부구조체로 가진 ISB 판재의 심재 종탄성 및 전단 계수 예측)

  • The elastic properties of core affect mechanical properties and deformation behaviours of the lightweight sandwich panel. The objective of the present paper is to estimate experimentally Young's and shear moduli of a core in internally structured boned (ISB) panel with woven metal as inner structures using the deflection theory of sandwich beam considered core stiffness. Three points bending experiments were performed to obtain force-deflection curves of the designed ISB panel in each material direction. The elastic and shear moduli of the core in each material direction were estimated from slopes and intercepts of relationships between compliance per the span length and square of the span length, respectively. The results of the estimation showed that the fabric technology of the woven metal affects the variation of the elastic properties in the core. Through the comparison of shear moduli and force-deflection curves of the proposed method and those without considering the core stiffness, it was shown that the core stiffness should be considered to estimate properly the Young's and shear moduli of ISB panels. Finally, the contribution ratio of bending and shear deflections of ISB panels to the total deflection was quantitatively examined.

Failure Mode and Failure Strength of Homogeneous Metals & Dissimilar Metals Bonded Single Lap-Shear Joints (동종금속 및 이종금속 단일 겹침 접착 시편의 파손모드 및 파손강도에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the experimental study and finite elements analysis were conducted on homogeneous and dissimilar metals single lap-shear bonded joints to investigate the factor that affect the joint failure load. It was found that factors which have the significant effects on the failure load of the joint was stiffness of the adherends. And from experimental results, it can be confirmed that the failure load increases linearly with overlap length increases. And the failure load of dissimilar metal joints is approximately 1KN(10~17%) larger than homogeneous metal joints. In order to confirm this phenomenon, the stress distribution and strain distribution of the specimens were analyzed through the finite element analysis. The difference between homogeneous metals joints and dissimilar metals joints is that stress and strain in adhesive are concentrated at the end of the overlap zone close to aluminium which has lower rigidity than aluminium in case of dissimilar metals joints. From high rigidity of steel, the stress concentration in bonds are decreased and it cause increase of the failure strength at dissimilar metal joints.
